To better understand the characteristics of air quality and the relationship between the chemical composition evolution and source variation,an intensive atmospheric campaign was conducted in Tianjin,a megacity of the North China Plain,from 10 February to 6 March 2015.There were 20 days exceeding the threshold value of secondary Chinese Ambient Air Quality Standards for PM2.5(75 μg m-3,daily average over 24 h)during the study period.Five air pollution episodes were selected for investigation.During the pre-holiday pollution episode,NH^+_4,NO^-_3,and SO^(2-)_4 were more abundant,indicating that air pollution was caused by motor vehicle exhaust emissions and coal consumption under unfavorable meteorological conditions.During Chinese Lunar New Year's Eve,widespread use of fireworks resulted in extremely high aerosol concentrations.Firework displays caused increases in K+ and also enrichment of SO^(2-)_4 relative to NO^-_3.The holiday pollution episode was caused by regional transport,characterized by abundant SO^(2-)_4 and NH^+_4.In addition,the aging processes of the particles from fireworks discharge played an important role in the formation of NO-3and SO^(2-)_4.The Lantern Festival episode was characterized by a transition from the enrichment of K+ to secondary inorganic ions(NO^-_3,SO^(2-)_4,and NH^+_4).The results of this study are useful for a detailed understanding of the variation in atmospheric compositions and sources caused by anthropogenic activity,and highlight the importance of controlling intensive fireworks discharge. 展开更多

Determination of potassium content as principal components in pyrotechnic compositions used for fireworks and firecrackers based on inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometric approach (ICP-OES)

Element of potassium is conunonly found in potassium nitrate and potassium perchlorate in pyrotechnic compositions in fireworks and firecrackers. Statistical analysis shows that potassium nitrate content in pyrotechnics is between 10% to 60% and the potassium perchlorate content is between 20% to 70%,which counted in the content of potassium element is between 4% to 23%. Concept of this method: considering the weight of the sample is 400rag,constant volume is 1L and the concentration of potassium is between 10 mg/L to 90 mg/L in sample solution, the determination scope of the method for the potassium content would be between 1% to 23%.Further experiments proved that the fitting correlation coefficient of potassium calibration curve is 0.9997 or higher, recovery is 89.15%-100.23%.The allowable differential value is 0.4% between two single tests under repeatable conditions. This method can completely satisfy the requirements of the fireworks and firecrackers industry with high accuracy and good precision. 展开更多

Determination of magnesium and aluminum content as principal components in pyrotechnic compositions used for fireworks and firecrackers based on inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometric approach (ICP-OES)

Elements of magnesium and aluminum are commonly found in aluminum powder or magnesium-aluminum alloy powder in pyrotechnic compositions in fireworks and firecrackers. Statistical analysis shows that the magnesium content in pyrotechnics is between 8% to 30% and the aluminum content is between 8% to 35%(roughly).Concept of this method: suppose the weight of the sample is 400rag,constant volume is IL and the concentlation of magnesium and aluminum is between 12mg/L to 160mg/L in sample solution, the determination scope of the method for magnesium and aluminum content would be between 3% to 40%.Further experiments proved that the fitting correlation coefficient of the magnesium calibration curve is 0.9999 or higher, recovery is 101.01% -101.96%.The fitting correlation coefficient of the aluminum calibration curve is 0.9999 or higher, recovery is 99.36%-103.07%. The allowable differential value is 0.4% between two single tests under repeatable conditions. This method can completely satisfy the requirements of the fireworks and firecrackers industry with high accuracy and good precision. 展开更多

Bamboo shavings, the outer or intermediate layer of bamboo stems, are the bulk of by-products produced in bamboo processing. In this study we investigated the isolation, chemical characterization, and immunostimulatory activity in vitro of the hemicelluloses from bamboo shavings. Shavings were first pretreated by steam explosion. The optimal pretreatment was found to be steam explosion at 2.2 MPa for 1 min. Following this pretreatment, the yield of hemicelluloses reached(2.05±0.22)%(based on the dry dewaxed raw materials), which was 5.7-fold higher than that of untreated samples. Bamboo-shavings hemicellulose(BSH) was then prepared by hot water extraction and ethanol precipitation from the steam-exploded shavings. Purification of BSH by anion-exchange chromatography of diethylaminoethanol(DEAE)-sepharose Fast Flow resulted in a neutral fraction(BSH-1, purity of 95.3%, yield of 1.06%) and an acidic fraction(BSH-2, purity of 92.5%, yield of 0.79%). The weight-average molecular weights(Mw) of BSH-1 and BSH-2 were 12 800 and 11 300 g/mol, respectively. Chemical and structural analyses by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), 1D(^1H and ^13C) and 2D(heteronuclear single quantum correlation(HSQC)) nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) spectra revealed that BSH-1 was O-acetylated-arabinoxylan and BSH-2 was O-acetylated-(4-Omethylglucurono)-arabinoxylan. BSH-1 had a higher content of acetyl groups than BSH-2. For the immunomodulatory activity in vitro, BSH and BSH-2 significantly stimulated mouse splenocyte proliferation while BSH-1 had no effect; BSH, BSH-1, and BSH-2 markedly enhanced the phagocytosis activity and nitric oxide production of the murine macrophage RAW264.7 in a dose-dependent manner. Our results suggest that the water-extractable hemicelluloses from steam-exploded bamboo shavings are naturally acetylated and have immunostimulatory activity. 展开更多
