By using some methods in the risk theory, uniform asymptotics for finite-time ruin probability is derived in a non-compound risk model, where claim sizes are upper tail asymptotically independent random variables with dominatedly varying tails, claim inter-arrival times follow the widely lower orthant dependent structure, and the total amount of premiums is a nonnegative stochastic process. Based on the obtained result, using the method of analysis for the tail probability of random sums, a similar result in a more complex and reasonable compound risk model is also obtained, where individual claim sizes are specialized to be extended negatively dependent and accident inter-arrival times are still widely lower orthant dependent, and both the claim sizes and the claim number have dominatedly varying tails.展开更多

The equilibrium lev...The impact of risk correlation on firm's investments in information system security is studied by using quantification models combining the ideas of the risk management theory and the game theory. The equilibrium levels of self-protection and insurance coverage under the non- cooperative condition are compared with socially optimal solutions, and the associated coordination mechanisms are proposed. The results show that self-protection investment increases in response to an increase in potential loss when the interdependent risk is small; the interdependent risk of security investments often induce firms to underinvest in security relative to the socially efficient level by ignoring marginal external costs or benefits conferred on others. A subsidy on self-protection investment from the government can help coordinate a firm's risk management decision and, thereby, improve individual security level and overall social welfare.展开更多

Background Although previous studies using Korean data have already reported higher rates of mortality in women, it is less clear whether these gender differences in prognosis post ST-segment elevation myocardial infa...Background Although previous studies using Korean data have already reported higher rates of mortality in women, it is less clear whether these gender differences in prognosis post ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), are age dependent. The aim of this study is to examine the gender-age interaction with early and late mortality in patients with STEMI enrolled in the Korean nationwide regis-try. Methods This prospective study stratified outcomes according to gender and age from 17,021 STEMI patients. We compared in-hospital, early (30 days) and late (12 months) mortality between gender to examine the gender-age interaction in multivariable models. Results In younger women (〈 60 years), in-hospital [5.8% vs. 2.5%, P 〈 0.001; unadjusted odds ratios (OR): 2.41, 95% confidence inter-vals (CI): 1.59-3.66], early (6.2% vs. 2.6%, P 〈 0.001; unadjusted OR: 2.4, 95% CI: 2.12-2.72) and late mortality (7.0% vs. 3.1%, P 〉 0.001; unadjusted OR: 2.33, 95% CI: 2.08-2.61) were significantly higher compared with men. However, after adjustment for patient characteristics, Killip class ≥ 3, symptom to balloon time and major bleeding, and in-hospital bleeding, overall early and late mortality were no longer re-lated to gender in any age groups. Conclusions Among a Korean population with STEMI, higher early and late mortality in younger women may be explained by poor patient characteristics, higher Killip class ≥3, longer symptom to balloon time and more frequent major bleeding. Therefore, based on gender-age differences, more precise and aggressive preventive strategies focused on risk factor reduction, education and more intensive management for yotmger women should be performed.展开更多

The gas phase thermodynamic properties of 135 polychlorinated xanthones(PCXTs)are calculated using a combination of quantum mechanical computations performed with the Gaussian 03 program at the B3LYP/6-311G**level.It ...The gas phase thermodynamic properties of 135 polychlorinated xanthones(PCXTs)are calculated using a combination of quantum mechanical computations performed with the Gaussian 03 program at the B3LYP/6-311G**level.It is found that the chlorine substitution pattern strongly influences the thermodynamic properties of the compounds.The thermodynamic properties of congeners with the same number of chlorines also depend on the chlorine substitution pattern,especially for ortho-substituted congeners.PCXT congeners with one phenyl ring fully chlorinated are found to be the least stable among the analogues.The effect of the chlorine substitution pattern is quantitatively studied by considering the number and position of Cl atom substitution(NPCS).The results show that the NPCS model may be used to predict the thermodynamic properties for all 135 PCXT congeners. In addition,the values of molar heat capacities at constant pressure(cp,m)from 200 to 1000 K for PCXT congeners are calculated,and the temperature dependence relation of this parameter is obtained using the least-squares method.展开更多

Aiming at the failure condition of large range MEMS accelerometers in high temperature environment,the corresponding accelerated degradation test is designed. According to the degradation condition of zero bias and scale factor,multiple dependent reliability estimation of large range MEMS accelerometers is carried out. The results show that the multiple dependent reliability estimation of the large range MEMS accelerometers can improve the accuracy of the estimation and get more accurate results.展开更多

Traditional methods, which are used to measure the interaction between genes, can only re...GA hardness and interdependence between genes in the chromosome are important questions in the study of genetic algorithms(GA). Traditional methods, which are used to measure the interaction between genes, can only reflect the extent of epistasis between all genes in the chromosome. Therefore, the definition of the fitness landscape of schemata is proposed in this paper, and epistasis measures on this landscape of schemata are used to analyze the degree of interdependence between some certain gene loci in study. Some information between these sites can be reflected by some characters of the fitness landscape of schemata which are composed of these fixed sites. The stronger the interaction between these sites, the larger the variation of the fitness of schemata whose fixed sites correspond to those sites in study, and the more rugged the fitness landscape of these schemata. According to the degree of interaction between these given gene loci, building blocks of GA can be analyzed and determined, and further genetic operators and the structure of GA can be designed and adjusted to improve the performance of GA. At last, a lot of experiments including NK models are done, and results of empirical analysis show that this method is effective.展开更多

The degree of priority establishe...The sustainable development supposes a development strategy that would ensure the interdependence and complementarily of objectives from the social, economic and environmental fields. The degree of priority established for the three dimensions of sustainable development differs from one country to another, a fact that confers a national and local meaning to this issue. For the Central and Eastern European countries, balanced economic development represents one of the fundamental objectives of the reforms started in 1990. Education represents a priority of any country's economic development and an extremely important element of economic growth. This paper presents the characteristics of the Romanian educational system while achieving a comparative analysis regarding different countries of the European Union, both from a quantitative viewpoint (using the main indicators in the education field) and a qualitative viewpoint (using student performances in international evaluations). In the end, we present some proposals for the improvement of the present state of the Romanian educational system.展开更多

We choose two coupled spin-1/2 systems as the composite system: one of the subsystems is subjected to a static magnetic field, and the coupling parameters between two spins are controllable in time. We show that the time-dependent interaction can induce the Berry phase in a similar way as that a spin-1/2 system (qubit) is driven by an effective time-dependent magnetic field. Furthermore, using two consecutive cycles with opposite directions of both the static magnetic field as well as opposite signs of the coupling parameters, a nontrivial two-qubit unitary transformation purely based on Berry phases can be constructed.展开更多

It is pointed out that the geometric phases in a cycle ease can be measured under the case of a stronger time-dependent photon field and a stronger coupling photon-atom system. In the present article, we report that DR4 or DR5 overexpression dramatically activates the release of the inflammatory cytokines IL-8, TNF-α, CCL20, MIP-2 and MIP-1β in an NF-κB-dependent manner in 293T, MDA-MB-23...In the present article, we report that DR4 or DR5 overexpression dramatically activates the release of the inflammatory cytokines IL-8, TNF-α, CCL20, MIP-2 and MIP-1β in an NF-κB-dependent manner in 293T, MDA-MB-231 and HCT-116 cells. We showed that death receptor-mediated signals were extracellular domain-independent, whereas the effect of overexpression of the DR4 intracellular domain was much less potent. The TRADD-TRAF2-NIK- IKKα/β signaling cascade, which plays an essential role in TNF-induced NF-κB activation, was found to be involved in tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) receptor-mediated signal transduction. The FADD-caspase signaling pathway, which has been reported to be mostly related to apoptosis, was identified as being essential for DR4 or DR5 overexpression-mediated NF-κB activation and cytokine secretion and crosstalks with the TRADD-TRAF2-NIK-IKKα/β signaling cascade. Furthermore, a DR5 agonistic antibody (AD5-10) triggered the inflammatory cytokine release. These data, together with previous reports, provide strong evidence that TRAIL and TRAIL receptors play an important role in inflammation.展开更多
