Silica was modified by silane coupling agents KH-570, KH-590, and KH-792. The optimized geome-tries of molecular modified silica reinforced SBR were obtained by using B3LYP calculation of density functional theory with the 6-31+G basis sets. The natural bond orbital analyses were carried out. The Si—O bond length of silica modified by KH-792 was the shortest and the electronegative of O was the highest. It indicated that the connection between silica and KH-792 was the tightest. Higher tensile strength and elongation of reinforced SBR was obtained by silica modified with the KH-792. It was caused by large delocalization of lone pair electrons of the two N atoms in KH-792. The S—C bond length in silica modified by KH-590 was longer than the ordinary S—C bond length. Then the sulfur free radical (·S·) was produced more easily in vulcanization. The degree of crosslink was increased by the cross-linkage of the rubber molecule and the sulfur free radical. That was why the highest stress and tear strength of reinforced SBR was produced when silane coupling agent KH-590 was used. The calculation results was in accord with experimental data.展开更多

We assessed the land mosaic shift of a protected area located in the western Italian Alps. In particular, the dynamics of pasture patches were studied at both landscape and stand level. Land-cover mapping through object-oriented analysis of historical aerial photographs was used to assess land-cover changes between 1954 and 2000. Spatial statistics were used to quantify landscape patterns, and field samplings within pasture patches were used to explore tree regeneration structure and composition. Our results showed a significant increase in the number of pasture patches caused by their fragmentation following forest expansion. The total surface area of pasture patches decreased by 43% and their core area decreased by 94%. The encroachment of trees on less accessible areas of the pasture patches caused a reduction of patch shape at landscape scale. The gap filling process started 40-50 years ago and began with an early invasion of light demanding species like sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) and common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.), followed by European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and secondarily silver fir (Abies alba Mill.). Traditional land-use and population decline in the Pesio Valley led to a reduction in ecotone areas. A transition to a more homogeneous landscape is expected in the next decades. Given the cultural and productive nature of these mountain meadow-pasture communities, extensive livestock grazing systems could be used to manage their future conservation.展开更多

Patch models involve explicit movements of people between distinct locations. The aim of the present work has been designed and explored a patch model with population mobility between different patches and between each patch and an external population. The authors considered a SIR (susceptible-infected-recovered) scheme. The model was explored by computer simulations. The results show how endemic levels are reached in all patches of the system. Furthermore, the performed explorations suggest that the people mobility between patches, the immigration from outside the system and the infection rate in each patch, are factors that may influence the dynamics of epidemics and should be considered in health policy planning.展开更多

However, it has certain limitions. For instance, identical results can be obtained by AI even when the shape and number of landscape patches are totally different in two landscape units. Furthermore, the value of AI approaches to 1 if the landscape patch is large enough. To solve these problems, a logical limitation of the original AI equation was revised firstly. Secondly, an improved AI-J was developed based on the awareness of the effects of spatial distribution characteristics of patches and changing spatial scale on AI operation. Finally, the accuracy of AI and AI-J results were evaluated through a case study of city green patches in Chengdu, P. R. China. The results show that the calculated result of AI-J is more precise than that of AI and AI-J can be used to compare a certain landscape class under different spatial scales.展开更多

These unsupervised classification and cluster analysis procedures are performed on the basis of the assumption that grouping of data points into naturally occurring clusters reduces within zone variability. The problem is that, there are small patches of different soil types within each management zone that are regarded as insignificant by the farmer, and are assimilated within larger MZs. These will consequently make soils within a management zone to be inhomogeneous. The objective of this study was to determine the probability of soil sampling occurrences on patches assimilated during delineation of MZs after a cluster analysis was performed. The study was conducted on a 5.0 ha (25°05′34.46″ S and 28°18′30.01″ E) and a 24.4 ha (23°59′04.61″ S and 28°52′29.43″ E) fields in the Waterberg District of the Limpopo Province in South Africa. A bare-soil high resolution Quickbird satellite imagery of a conventionally tilled agricultural field was used to develop MZs in the field. Soils were sampled using systematic unaligned sampling on a 35.0 m and 30.0 m grids for the 24.4 ha and 5.0 ha fields, respectively. Probabilities were calculated based on percentage area assimilated during the cluster analysis procedure that was performed using remote sensing image analysis software. The results indicated that in the 24.4 ha field there were 2.5 ha patches of high and medium zones that were assimilated within the low zone, and thus making low zones non-homogeneous. After cluster analysis and assimilation of patches, the low zone in the 24.4 ha field increased by 45.5% (2.5 ha) while the high zone was 16.4% (2.4 ha) smaller in size. In the smaller field of 5.0 ha, the high zone, which was originally 3.20 ha, lost 0.37 ha (11.6%), which was assimilated in either low or medium zone. The study indicates that unequal probability proportional to size sampling could be used to minimize error when sampling across precision farming MZs because typically the low, medium and high MZs are not of equal size and do not contribute equally towards the mean values of soil samples.展开更多

First, we randomly extract image patch pairs from the training images, and divide these patch pairs into different groups by K-means clustering. Then, we learn an over-complete sub-dictionary pair offline from corresponding group patch pairs. For a given low-resolution patch, we adaptively select one sub-dictionary to reconstruct the high resolution patch online. In addition, non-local self-similarity and steering kernel regression constraints are integrated into patch aggregation to improve the quality of the recovered images. Experiments show that the proposed method is able to realize state-of-the-art performance in terms of both objective evaluation and visual perception.展开更多
