The Bauls do not revere class/caste/religious divides and often flout the norms of the society by their divine madness. Etymologically, the word derives from Sanskrit, "vatula" (meaning one who is affected by the wind disease or is mad), or "vyakula" (meaning restless or disordered). In recent years however, Bauls have been recognized as a religious sect, yet the connotation of madness still clings to their reputation. This paper is going to discuss briefly how the Baul tradition developed in Bengal and then focus on the Baul philosophy in the Baul-gan texts and on their musical appeal. Many of the Baul-gans have had profound influence on other forms of music. Closely associated with the Baul sangeet is the Bhatiali music whose rhythm, has often won the hearts of many classical musicians. Often times the classical musicians have been found to render the ektatra or dotara sounds in their improvisations. Rabindranath Tagore too has used some of the Baul maestro, Lalon Fakir's lyrics, philosophy as well as music in many of his songs. More recently, Baul songs have been rendered through fusion bands or experimental music.展开更多

Peter Shaffer, in Amadeus (2001), depicts the mysterious life and death of this musician in a very different way. Instead of presenting an intelligent and refined artist, Shaffer, from the perspective of his rival, Antonio Salieri, gives us a "foul-mouthed, immature jackanapes" that shocks his audiences in the theatre. Lady Thatcher's displeased response after seeing the play tells the gap between Shaffer's Mozart and the Mozart image in most public's mind. However, the image of the vulgar Mozart, though a contrast to his music, lights up the uniqueness of his music at the age of Enlightenment. The paper, aims to analyze the difference in Mozart's music and the different Mozart character Shaffer presents in his play by drawing on Ren6 Girard's notion of collective violence and scapegoat mechanism. Also, the author intends to examine the playwright's intention and exegesis as he composes this mysterious musician in such a different way展开更多

Jazz pianists in Europe were a distinctive part of the world jazz scene and made significant achievements during the communist era. They were able to master the European classical piano school, becoming virtuoso pianists themselves, as well as acquiring self-taught jazz skills. Semi-isolated from the contemporary music trends abroad, Central European artists nonetheless made remarkable musical accomplishments that deserve to be called the Central European Jazz School. Between 1948 and 1989, the communist ideology controlled every country of Central Europe including East Germany. The careers of jazz pianists in these countries would have developed differently if they had lived under democratic conditions. This is evident in the lives of those who emigrated to Western countries and subsequently found a place in the world jazz scene. Using analysis of the Central European jazz musicians' compositions and their professional careers, this paper aims to demonstrate the extent to which the Central European Jazz School has contributed to jazz music in Europe and the wider world.展开更多

This paper attempts to describe how music changes under the impact of Internet. The milieu of musicians and the audiences are concerned. Concerts (music in the city) allow escaping from the losses of money because of piracy. There are several experiences for listeners, which are possible, some of them involving going to concerts and festivals.展开更多
