A mathematic model of two-phase flow and a physical model of two-dimensional (2D) vertical section for the plate-type structured packing Mellapak 250.Y were set up and verified. The models were used to study the influence of packing’s surface microstructure on the continuity of liquid film and the amount of liquid holdup. Simulation results show that the round corner shape and micro wavy structure are favorable in remaining the continuity of liquid film and increasing the amount of liquid holdup. The appropriate liquid flow rate was determined by investigating different liquid loadings to obtain an unbroken liquid film on the packing surface. The pressure difference between inlet and outlet for gas phase allowed gas and liquid to flow countercurrently in a 2D computational domain. The direction change of gas flow occurred near the phase interface area. 展开更多

Hydration film measurement on mica and coal surfaces using atomic force microscopy and interfacial interactions 被引量:3

The hydration film on particle surface plays an important role in bubble-particle adhesion in mineral flotation process. The thicknesses of the hydration films on natural hydrophobic coal and hydrophilic mica surfaces were measured directly by atomic force microscopy (AFM) based on the bending mode of the nominal constant compliance regime in AFM force curve in the present study. Surface and solid-liquid interfacial energies were calculated to explain the forming mechanism of the hydration film and atomic force microscopy data. The results show that there are significant differences in the structure and thickness of hydration films on coal and mica surfaces. Hydration film formed on mica surface with the thickness of 22.5 nm. In contrast, the bend was not detected in the nominal constant compliance regime. The van der Waals and polar interactions between both mica and coal and water molecules are characterized by an attractive effect, while the polar attractive free energy between water and mica (-87.36 mN/m) is significantly larger than that between water and coal (-32.89 mN/m), which leads to a thicker and firmer hydration layer on the mica surface. The interfacial interaction free energy of the coal/water/bubble is greater than that of mica. The polar attractive force is large enough to overcome the repulsive van der Waals force and the low energy barrier of film rupture, achieving coal particle bubble adhesion with a total interfacial free energy of-56.30 mN/m. 展开更多

The galvanic corrosion behavior of metal-matrix composite plain carbon steel/boron carbide (B4C) in 3.5% NaCl solution was studied. The composite was locally produced as a weld band on carbon steel by means of the gas tungsten arc welding process and using nickel as the wetting agent. Samples from the weld band, heat-affected zone and parent metal region were extracted precisely and DC/AC electrochemical tests in combination with techniques such as scanning electron microcopy and energy dispersive spectrometry were conducted. The results of the electrochemical tests show that the corrosion resistance of the parent metal sample is higher than that of the welded composite and the HAZ samples. However, as the corrosion potential (Eco^r) of the parent metal is more positive than other two samples, this becomes the cathode in galvanic couples with two other samples. On the other hand, the weld composite sample is also cathodic due to its more positive Ecorr compared to HAZ sample. This means that the HAZ can be particularly at risk of preferential dissolution. The approach can be used in specific areas on plain carbon steel to locally increase hardness and resistance to abrasion and reduce manufacturing costs. 展开更多

Microstructure and Magnetic Properties of Sputtered Co5Sm Films

Co5 Sm/Cr bilayer films were deposited on Si and glass slides by means of a Direct-Current (DC) magnetron sputtering system with substrate heating. Magnetic properties measurements show that the sample with glass substrate has a comparatively large coercivity (He = 2 141.20e) with a rela- tively low optimal temperature ( Ts =350 ℃ ). X-ray diffraction patterns indicate that Cr presents a hexagonal-close-packed (hcp) texture on Si, while a body-centered-cubic (bcc) struc- ture on glass substrate, which leads to Cos Sm films having dif- ferent lattice constants on Si and glass substrates. At their opti- mal temperature, the grain size of the sample on glass slide is smaller with its size distribution more uniform. Concurrently, the shape of magnetic domain is more regular and ordered. The value of magnetic switching volume ( V ) for the film on glass is 1.65×10-18 cm3 , smaller than that for films on Si. For the film on glass, the magnetization reversal mechanism is mainly influenced by magnetocrystalline anisotropy, the shape of the crystal grain and the stress in the film. 展开更多

The influence of impurity content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of ZK60 magnesium alloys was investigated by optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy and tensile test.ZK60 alloys were prepared by changing holding time of alloy melt during semi-continuous casting in order to control the content of impurity elements.The alloy with lower purity content is found to have less second precipitates and larger grain size in the as-cast state.However,in the as-extruded state,reducing impurities brings about a decrease in grain size and an increase in yield strength from 244 MPa to 268 MPa,while the elongations in the as-extruded alloys with different contents of impurities are almost the same.After T5 treatment,impurity content is found to have more obvious effect on the yield strength of ZK60 alloy.The yield strength of ZK60-45 alloys with low impurity content is increased up to 295 MPa after T5 treatment. 展开更多

A New Approach to Cleave MEMS Devices from Silicon Substrates

Dicing of fabricated MEMS (microelectromechanical system) devices is sometimes a source of challenge, especially when devices are overhanging structures. In this work, a modified cleaving technique is developed to precisely separate fabricated devices from a silicon substrate without requiring a dicing machine. This technique is based on DRIE (deep reactive ion etching) which is regularly used to make cleaving trenches in the substrate during the releasing stage. Other similar techniques require some extra later steps or in some cases a long HF soak. To mask the etching process, a thick photoresist is used. It is shown that by applying different UV (ultraviolate) exposure and developing times for the photoresist, the DRIE process could be controlled to etch specific cleaving trenches with less depth than other patterns on the photoresist. Those cleaving trenches are used to cleave the wafer later, while the whole wafer remains as one piece until the end of the silicon etching despite some features being etched all the way through the wafer at the same time. The other steps of fabricating and releasing the devices are unaffected. The process flow is described in details and some results of applying this technique for cleaving fabricated cantilevers on a silicon substrate are presented. 展开更多

Hot stamping 22MnB5 steel plate with ultra-high strength has been widely used for body structural members in consideration of automobile safety and lightweight.This paper presents a verification program of simulating and testing pole impact in order to verify if the front crossbeam reinforcement assembly can meet the design requirements,reduce the overall vehicle simulation and test cost and shorten the operation period.In the same condition,the simulation proved conforming to the design requirements;however,the bumper cracked at the impacting point in the course of pole impact test.The analysis of the crack by optical microscope,Vickers and scanning electron microscope indicates that mixture of ferrite,bainite and martensite was produced in the weld heat-affected zone of the 340/590DP tow hook holder and the 22MnB5 front crossbeam;therefore,their hardness and mechanical property were reduced obviously,so that they fractured when impacted.No welding process with continuous weld but spot welding or other bonding method may be employed for the reason that the capacity of the 22MnB5 steel plate in the weld heat-affected zone was reduced obviously. 展开更多

The morphologies of monolayers containing Eu(TTA)3Phen (TTA=thenoyltrifluoroace-tone, Phen = 1, 10-phenanthroline) were studied at the air/liquid interface on different subphases by fluorescence microscopy (FM). The composite subphase was the basic premise for the stable existence of the rare earth compound at air/liquid interface. The process that rare earth compound phase changes from liquid expanded state to liquid condensed state corresponded to a plateau in the π-A isotherm. In the pure Eu(TTA)3Phen monolayer, rod domains of Eu(TTA)3Phen formed and packed with no order. In the mixed monolayers with stearic acid (SA), phase transition of SA occurred first and formed domains with an electric gradient field, which induced the rare earth compound to form luminescent ring domains. Influence of intermolecular interaction on the self-organized microstructure was revealed. 展开更多

Repeated scatterings of unpolarized photons by non-relativistic electrons in a static and uniform magnetic field are investigated by using the Boltzmann equation with quantum mechanical correction factors for the stimulated scattering effects.The resulting Kompaneets equation depends explicitly on the electron cyclotron frequency and the incidence angle of the incoming photons relative to the direction of the magnetic field.The evolutionary behavior of the photon spectrum and energy density is highly anisotropic with respect to the static external magnetic field.Possible applications of our results to the X-ray emission from compact and massive stellar objects are discussed in detail and those to the interaction of the microwave background radiation with the hot electrons in galactic clusters are discussed briefly. 展开更多
