The alignment and typical domains were analyzed using basic local alignment search tool (BLAST) and simple modular architecture research tool (SMART), respectively. On the basis of the annotations of flee (Oryza sativa L.) and Arabidopsis genomic sequences and using the bio-software SignalP3.0, TMHMM2.0, TargetPl.1, and big-Pi Predictor, 25 out of 37 and 16 out of 24 open reading frames (ORFs) with chitinase activity from rice and Arabidopsis, respectively, were predicted to have signal pepfides (SPs), which have an average of 24.8 amino acids at the N-terminal region. Some of the chitinases were secreted extracellularly, whereas some were located in the vacuole. The phylogenic relationship was analyzed with 61 ORFs and 25 known ehitinases and they were classified into 6 clusters using Clustal X and MEGA3.1. This classification is not completely consistent when compared with the traditional system that classifies the chitinases into 7 classes. The frequency of distribution of amino acid residues was distinct in different clusters. The contents of alanine, glycine, serine, and leucine were very high in each cluster, whereas the contents of methionine, histidine, tryptophan, and cysteine were lower than 20%. Each cluster had distinct amino acid characteristics. Alanine, valine, leucine, cysteine, serine, and lysine were rich in Clusters Ⅰ to Ⅵ, respectively.展开更多

However, the groin structure and its associated flow characteristics are the main causes of local erosion. In this study, we investigate the flow patterns around refractive and right-angle groins. In particular, we analytically compare the flow characteristics around a refractive groin and study the degree of accuracy that can be achieved by using a right-angle groin of various projected lengths. To compare the flow characteristics, we replaced the right-angle groin with an approximation of a refractive groin. This replacement had the least effect on the maximum velocity of flow in the channel. Moreover, we investigated the distribution of the density variables of temperature and salinity, and their effects on the flow characteristics around the right-angle groin. A comparison of the flow analysis results in baroclinic and barotropic conditions reveals that the flow characteristic values are very similar for both the refractive and right-angle groins. The geometry of the groin, i.e., right-angle or refractive, has little effect on the maximum speed to relative average speed. Apart from the angular separation, the arm length of the groin in downstream refractive groins has less effect on other flow characteristics than do upstream refractive groins. We also correlated a number of non-dimensional variables with respect to various flow characteristics and groin geometry. These comparisons indicate that the correlation between the thalweg height and width of the channel and groin arm's length to projection length have been approximated using linear and nonlinear formulas regardless of inner velocity in the subcritical flow.展开更多

The ascorbic acid microemulsion was prepared by mixing ascorbic acid, deionized water, surfactant mixture, and VCO as continuous phase. Ascorbic acid microemulsion at 50, 100, 150, 200, or 250 ppm was dispersed into VCO. The same level of ascorbyl palmitate, TBHQ (tertiary butylhydroquinone), and BHA (butylated hidroxyanisole) were added into VCO and used for comparison. All of these samples were subsequently subjected to photooxidation under fluorescent light exposure (4,000 lux) for up to 8 hours at room temperature (30 ~ 1 ~C). Peroxide values and p-anisidine values of photooxidized samples were measured at 1 hour interval. The result indicated that at the level of 250 ppm, ascorbic acid which was included into the microemulsion system effectively inhibited photooxidation of VCO in comparison with the other antioxidants. This study confirmed that a highly hydrophilic singlet oxygen quencher (SOQ) such as ascorbic acid can be successfully incorporated into the microemulsion system and the addition of ascorbic acid microemulsion effectively inhibited photooxidation of VCO during storage under fluorescent light.展开更多

This extract was also tested against Anthonomus grandis, the cotton boll weevil aiming its control. The chitinase crude extract from the A8 strain was cultured for five days in a minimum liquid media supplemented with chitin. The extract was partially characterized by standard methods. The chitinolytic extract had an optimum temperature of 66 "C and an optimum pH between 4 to 9 (around 80% of relative activity). We also characterized the temperature and pH stability and measured the effects of enzyme inhibitors. The filtered chitinolytic extract was added to an artificial boll weevil diet. Boll weevil development from the egg stage to the adult stage was prolonged, and the percentage of adults that emerged was approximately 66% less than on control diet. This study showed that the.larval development of A. grandis was inhibited by the presence of characterized chitinolytic extract in artificial diet. This work provides an experimental basis for using the chitinase from an endophytic bacterium Streptomyces sp. as a biocontrol alternativeto controlling the plant pest A. grandis.展开更多

The...The effect of magnetic field and ionizing radiation on the mechanical properties of polymer blends consisting of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) has been investigated. The purpose of the work was to create HDPE/NBR blend composites of significantly different compositions (with an excess of HDPE, intermediate ones, and with an excess of NBR) and to investigate the role of composition on mechanical deformation properties under the influence of magnetic field. The investigation has importance from the engineering viewpoint, since thermoplastic composite materials have been used as structural elements in thermonuclear and engineering fields, like wires, insulation materials and others, which are frequently subjected to mechanical loadings under the effect of magnetic field greater than 1 T. One part of the blends has been irradiated with 5 MeV accelerated electrons up to absorbed dose D equal to 150 kGy. Unirradiated and the radiation modified blends have been exposed to a constant magnetic field with induction B equal to 1.0 T, 1.5 T and 1.7 T. It is found that the action of magnetic field decreases the elastic modulus of unirradiated materials. Decrement of elastic modulus is reduced with increase of the content of NBR in composites. It is also found that preliminary irradiation noticeably decreases the effect of magnetic field. Data of the influence of the magnetic field, radiation cross-linking, and the ratio of the components on the creep are also obtained.展开更多

After a simple data preprocessing that was to insert zeros below the first-order Rayleigh scattering, the second-order calibration method based on the alternating normalization-weighed error (ANWE) algorithm was used to deal with EEM data. Via the introduced "second-order advantage", the individual con- centrations of the analytes of interest could be obtained even in the presence of uncalibrated interferences. The experimental concentration ranges for the analytes were as follows: EQ, from 4.58 to 20.6 p.g mL-1 in plasma and from 6.87 to 20.6 gg mL-1 in urine; TBHQ, from 4.49 to 20.2 ~tg mL-1 in plasma and from 6.73 to 22.4 I.tg mL-l in urine. The recoveries from spiked bi- ological fluid samples were in the ranges of 92.8%-106.2% for EQ and 94.6%-107.2% for TBHQ. These results demonstrate that the three-dimensional EEM fluorescence with second-order calibration method is a powerful tool for obtaining both EQ and TBHQ quantitative results in plasma and urine samples, and could be applied to more complex matrices.展开更多

The density fluctuation of iPP/PcBR blends during molten and mixing is discussed using the integral-intensity Js, of the scattering intensity of the blends. The "invariant" Q, which shows fluctuation of the system, is calculated by data of the small angle light back scattering, and the variation of Q with the blending time, temperature and shear rate during molten and mixing in iPP/PcBR blends is discussed. The structure parameters which characterize dimensions of phase in the blends, as the correlation distance ac, and the average chord lengths of two-phase, as lipp and lPcBR, are calculated by data of scattering intensity. The average diameters dp of dispersed phases are calculated from SEM images. The variation of ac, dp, lipp and lPcBR with the blending time and compositions in the blends during molten and mixing is discussed. The scale law is analyzed to find multi-scale char- acteristics in this system. The generalized fractal dimension Dp is calculated and the relation of Dp with generalized entropy function is discussed to determine that Dp is state function and the physical significance of Dp is the same as that of the generalized entropy function. polymer blends, on-line analysis, fractal, polypropylene展开更多
