The clinical and pathologic data of 311 cases of primary GIST, including 257 cases with clinical GIST and 54 cases of incidental GIST were analyzed.RESULTS: Of the 311 patients, 54 had incidental GIST, accounting for 17.4%. Of these tumors, 27 were found in 1.13% patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), 22 in 0.53% patients with gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC), 2 in 0.38% patients with PAC, 2 in 0.03% patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma, and 1 in one patient with GAC accompanying ESCC, respectively. Patients with incidental GIST presented symptoms indistinguishable from those with EMT. All incidental GIST lesions were small in size, and the majority had a low mitotic activity while only 1.9% (5/257) of clinical GIST lesions had a high risk.CONCLUSION: Incidental GIST may occur synchronously with other tumors and has a high prevalence in males. Surgery is its best treatment modality.展开更多

In this report, we described an unusual case of PEH presented as a single mass in a 46-year-old man, with 6 positive pulmonary hilar lymph nodes. Histologic findings were compared with conventional PEH, except those features such as round to oval-shaped nodules, hypocellular/cellular peripheral zone, hyaline, myxomatous intercellular stroma and intracellular vacuoles, and we found the patient's pulmonary hilar lymph nodes were metastasis and cholesterol crystal were discovered in the focal infarction areas. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were strong positive for CD34, CD31, factor VIII related endothelial antigen and vimentin. The patient died 3 and half months after the surgery without receiving any radiotherapy or chemotherapy. This report may contribute to the data on clinical and histological finding of this rare tumour.展开更多

Despite its early success in suppressing prostate tumor growth, the therapy eventually fails, leading to recurrent hormone-refractory tumor growth. Recent studies have been carried out with stromal cell-specific or fibroblastspecific AR knockout mice or prostate stromal-specific and epithelial-specific AR knockout transgenic mice prostate cancer models and in vitro and in vivo studies of various human prostate cancer cells with knock-in and knock-out of the AR. These have indicated that the AR in prostatic stroma acts as a proliferation stimulator and survival factor, whereas epithelial AR acts as a survival factor for epithelial luminal cells and stromal smooth muscle cell differentiation, and as a suppressor for epithelial basal intermediate cell proliferation. These two opposite AR pose a major challenge for roles of the stromal and epithelial ADT and should be taken into account when developing new therapies targeting AR in selective cells.展开更多
