The incomplete information, includ...Abstract--This paper conducts a survey on iterative learn- ing control (ILC) with incomplete information and associated control system design, which is a frontier of the ILC field. The incomplete information, including passive and active types, can cause data loss or fragment due to various factors. Passive incomplete information refers to incomplete data and information caused by practical system limitations during data collection, storage, transmission, and processing, such as data dropouts, delays, disordering, and limited transmission bandwidth. Active incomplete information refers to incomplete data and information caused by man-made reduction of data quantity and quality on the premise that the given objective is satisfied, such as sampling and quantization. This survey emphasizes two aspects: the first one is how to guarantee good learning performance and tracking performance with passive incomplete data, and the second is how to balance the control performance index and data demand by active means. The promising research directions along this topic are also addressed, where data robustness is highly emphasized. This survey is expected to improve understanding of the restrictive relationship and trade-off between incomplete data and tracking performance, quantitatively, and promote further developments of ILC theory. This ...The speed of a ship sailing in waves always slows down due to the decrease in efficiency of the propeller. So it is necessary and essential to analyze the unsteady hydrodynamic performance of propeller in waves. This paper is based on the numerical simulation and experimental research of hydrodynamics performance when the propeller is under wave conditions. Open-water propeller performance in calm water is calculated by commercial codes and the results are compared to experimental values to evaluate the accuracy of the numerical simulation method. The first-order Volume of Fluid(VOF) wave method in STAR CCM+ is utilized to simulate the three-dimensional numerical wave. According to the above prerequisite, the numerical calculation of hydrodynamic performance of the propeller under wave conditions is conducted, and the results reveal that both thrust and torque of the propeller under wave conditions reveal intense unsteady behavior. With the periodic variation of waves, ventilation, and even an effluent phenomenon appears on the propeller. Calculation results indicate, when ventilation or effluent appears, the numerical calculation model can capture the dynamic characteristics of the propeller accurately, thus providing a significant theory foundation forfurther studying the hydrodynamic performance of a propeller in waves.展开更多

The close relationship between language and culture is most readily seen in words. In fact, being the most active and elastic element of a language, vocabulary has the greatest culture-loading capacity. Vocabulary teaching is an integral part of foreign language teaching. Its efficiency has a direct relation with the development of the learners' communicative competence. Vocabulary is culture-bound, so it is self-evident that culture introduction is indispensable in teaching. The author attempts to make a comparison between English and Chinese cultures, to make clear how cultural disparities exist in English and Chinese vocabulary, and to put forward some constructive suggestions on how to integrate culture into vocabulary teaching in Chinese schools, so as to promote the efficiency of vocabulary teaching and improve learners' competence in intercultural communication.展开更多

Indeed, Bourdieu defines habitus in three different ways: as a capacity, as a set of dispositions, and as a scheme for practice. That is why he cannot solve the problem of the duality of agent and habitus and produces a problem offundamentation, as we can see in his troubles to determine which is the substratum of social actions. Though Bourdieu claims he borrows the concept of habitus from Husserl and other phenomenologists, many divergences can be stated in the way they conceive it. Unlike Bourdieu, phenomenology can establish precise relations of fundamentation between agent, habitus, and the ego because it avoids the fallacy of the wrong level involved in the attribution of systemic properties to personal eogic structures. According to the attribution theory,achievement attributions have significant consequences for subsequent achievement motivation and future behavior.This study sought to determine some of the causes to which junior st...According to the attribution theory,achievement attributions have significant consequences for subsequent achievement motivation and future behavior.This study sought to determine some of the causes to which junior students at vocational college attributed success or failure in their English learning.The results of the present study revealed that the majority of the students participated in the study identified themselves as unsuccessful English learners and collectively the students placed more importance on the causal attributions of interest in English learning,effort and teachers' help.When divided by their perceived learning performances (successful learners vs.unsuccessful),the successful learners placed more importance on English learning ability,interests in English,and teacher's help than did the unsuccessful ones.The paper analyzes the attribution tendency,gender difference and group difference as well.展开更多
Retinoic acid level in the retina/choroid is altered in induced myopia models.All-trans-retinol dehydrogenase(RDH8) is an important enzyme of retinoic acid metabolism.This study aimed to investigate the association of...Retinoic acid level in the retina/choroid is altered in induced myopia models.All-trans-retinol dehydrogenase(RDH8) is an important enzyme of retinoic acid metabolism.This study aimed to investigate the association of the RDH8 gene with high myopia.Three single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) [RDH851(rs2233789) ,RDH8E5a(rs1644731) ,and RDH855b(rs3760753) ]were selected,based on the linkage disequilibrium pattern of RDH8 from a previous study,and genotyped for 160 Han Chinese nuclear families with highly myopic(-10 diopters or worse) offspring as well as in an independent group with 166 highly myopic cases(-10 diopters or worse) and 211 controls. Family-based association analysis was performed using the family-based association test(FBAT) package,and genotype relative risk(GRR) was calculated using the GenAssoc program.Population-based association analysis was performed using Chi-square test.These SNPs were in linkage equilibrium with each other.SNPs RDH851(rs2233789) and RDH8E5a(rs1644731) both did not show association with high myopia.SNP RDH855b(rs3760753) demonstrated significant association(P=0.0269) with a GRR of 0.543(95%confidence interval=0.304-0.968,P=0.038) .The association became statistically insignificant,however,after multiple comparison correction.Haplotype analysis did not show a significant association either.Population-based association analysis also showed no significant association(P>0.05) .Our family-and population-based data both suggest that the RDH8 gene is unlikely to be associated with high myopia in Chinese.展开更多

This study assumes that the semantic pr...This paper presents an empirical study of the acquisition of English ambiguous verb-locative prepositional phrase constructions (VLPPs) by adult Mandarin and Spanish speakers. This study assumes that the semantic properties of the target VLPPs that relate to change-of-location in sentences such as The boat floated under the bridge arise from an uninterpretable syntactic feature selected by English but unselected by Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. Results obtained from an animated cartoon selection task indicate that neither the Mandarin nor the Spanish speakers at any level of English proficiency possess native-like interpretative knowledge. Tense/ Aspect effects on the interpretation of the target constructions by Spanish speakers were also found. These results are interpreted as consistent with the Representational Deficit Hypothesis view (Hawkins, 2003, 2005) of adult second language acquisition.展开更多

Till date, it challenges the scientists working in the fields related to its prevention, least spread and eradic...Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) emerged as one of the most serious health issues of the modern era. Till date, it challenges the scientists working in the fields related to its prevention, least spread and eradication. It affects not only the person suffering from it but also the communities and their economies. Mathematical modeling is one of the ways to explore the possibilities of prediction (and control) strategies for contagious deceases. In this paper, we have tried to extend the scope of a currently available prediction model for a continuous time span. For this purpose, an analytical investigation of the system of nonlinear differential equations, governing the HIV infection of CD4 + T-cells, is carried out. A new emerging analytical technique Optimal Variational Iteration Method (OVIM) has been used to obtain an analytical and convergent solution. Analytical solutions are continuous solutions that can be used to predict the phenomena without the involvement of interpolation or extrapolation errors. On the other hand, their use in the derived equations, depending upon solution itself, is far easier than the numerical solutions. We have presented the error analysis and the prediction curves graphically. Moreover, a comparison with traditional Variational Iteration is also provided. It is concluded that the traditional method fails to converge for the updated models which involve the delayed differential equations.展开更多
