In order to improve the precision of soil organic carbon (SOC) estimates, the sources of uncertainty in soil organic carbon density (SOCD) estimates and SOC stocks were examined using 363 soil profiles in Hebei Provin...In order to improve the precision of soil organic carbon (SOC) estimates, the sources of uncertainty in soil organic carbon density (SOCD) estimates and SOC stocks were examined using 363 soil profiles in Hebei Province, China, with three methods: the soil profile statistics (SPS), GIS-based soil type (GST), and kriging interpolation (KI). The GST method, utilizing both pedological professional knowledge and GIS technology, was considered the most accurate method of the three estimations, with SOCD estimates for SPS 10% lower and KI 10% higher. The SOCD range for GST was 84% wider than KI as KI smoothing effect narrowed the SOCD range. Nevertheless, the coefficient of variation for SOCD with KI (41.7%) was less than GST and SPS. Comparing SOCD’s lower estimates for SPS versus GST, the major sources of uncertainty were the conflicting area of proportional relations. Meanwhile, the fewer number of soil profiles and the necessity of using the smoothing effect with KI were its sources of uncertainty. Moreover, for local detailed variations of SOCD, GST was more advantageous in reflecting the distribution pattern than KI.展开更多

This paper will attempt to clarify the clear tendency, in our contemporary world, to look at ethics as something that "cures" all wrongs, all unbalance, and all evils from the political, environmental, to the busine...This paper will attempt to clarify the clear tendency, in our contemporary world, to look at ethics as something that "cures" all wrongs, all unbalance, and all evils from the political, environmental, to the business ones. For this reason, there is nothing better than to turn to ethics in order to "moralise" the system and the world, when the numerous news of fraud, injustice, and scandals are a part of everyday life in the business world and in our society. But, is this the role of ethics? Can we reduce the aim of ethics to a mere technique? In this paper, it is argued that ethics needs to be replaced in the epistemological scale of knowledge, where until now it has occupied a place at the top. Ethics needs to be repositioned in a different level of knowledge where we may find the roots of its foundation. It is also discussed that it is at the core of being that the experience of the action takes place and develops and in it, ethics takes root. Furthermore, it is suggested that understanding ethics from this point of view presupposes a new ethos around a relational poietics which privileges inter-subjectivity, self-creation, and an active and dynamic construction of the human and of the world.展开更多

Rule is one of the most important methods to represent knowledge in AI. The appearance of uncertain reasoning urges us to measure the belief of rule. Now,most of uncertain reasoning models represent the belief of rule by conditional probability. However,it has many limitations when standard conditional probability is used to measure the belief of expert system rule. In this paper,AI rule is modelled by conditional event and the belief of rule is measured by conditional event probability,then we use random conditional event to construct a new evidence updating method. It can overcome the drawback of the existed methods that the forms of focal sets influence updating result. Some examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.展开更多

Pediatricians have to face the realization that over-the-counter medicines increments the peril of ...PhV (pharmacovigilance) knowledge has the outcome of being inadequate in particular due to the lack of instruction. Pediatricians have to face the realization that over-the-counter medicines increments the peril of ADRs (adverse drug reactions) has become a public health concern. The purpose of this article is to disseminate knowledge of the PhV and to highlight the cultural and organizational difficulties for its implementation. The objectives of promoting the organization of specific training courses and research projects aimed at: (1) to foster the culture of iatrogenic disease in pediatrics; (2) to improve the appropriateness of prescribing drugs in children; (3) to enco.urage spontaneous reporting of ADRs in children; (4) to involve Pediatricians in PASS (post-authorization safety studies) according to GCP, GVP and ENCEPP Code of Conduct. An up to date proposal of PhV, a procedure of preparation improves the productivity of creating novel informative reports which can be utilized for a benefit/risk scrutiny making strides in medicine prescription. In this context, FP-MCRN (family paediatficians-medicines for children research network) established with the aim of developing competence, infrastructure and education for paediatric clinical trials, plays a crucial role in paediatric PhV, through an improvement of PhV training, a correct research methodology and very strong relationship with the families. The initial necessity is cultural, implementing culture of iatrogenic illnesses and a watchful evaluation of the importance of PASS by FPs (family pediatricians). Participation in clinical trials that generates a precise database administered by FPs together with follow-up outcomes becomes relevant and vital for a scrupulous and accurate assessment of ADRs. PASS can foresee on one hand training and information regarding the proper use of drugs in children and possible iatrogenic pathologies caused by their improper use, the other to constitute a territorial survey in the prescriptive appropriateness and safety of pediatric drugs aimed at evaluating the risk-benefit balance on usage.展开更多

As any programmati...This paper reports on the current state of an ongoing research project which is aimed at implementing intelligent models for hardly predictable hazard scenarios identification in construction sites. As any programmatic actions cannot deal with the unpredictable nature of many risk dynamics, an attempt to improve the current approach for safety management in the construction industry will be presented in this paper. To this aim, the features offered by Bayesian networks have been exploited. The present research has led to the definition of a probabilistic model using elicitation techniques from subjective knowledge. This model, which might be meant as a reliable knowledge map about accident dynamics, showed that a relevant part of occurrences fall in the "hardly predictable hazards" category, which cannot be warded off by programmatic safety measures. Hence, more effort turned out to be needed in order to manage those hardly predictable hazardous scenarios. Consequently, further developments of this research project will focus on a real time monitoring system for the identification of unpredictable hazardous events in construction.展开更多

In international relations theory (maybe more than in any other discipline of social sciences), the paradigmatic construction of Thomas Kuhn and his model of incommensurability might be applied to the theoretical in...In international relations theory (maybe more than in any other discipline of social sciences), the paradigmatic construction of Thomas Kuhn and his model of incommensurability might be applied to the theoretical interpretation of phenomena; and it is one of the cornerstones of the methodological toolkit for the interpretation in this field. The paper explores the reason why Kuhn's understanding of incommensurability seems to be necessary for the conception of knowledge in international relations: the concept of incommensurability can be considered typical as it is meant to indicate a conflict, of one form or another, between theories. And the discipline of international relations is more than a perfect ground for considering this concept when one is having in mind the high degree of polarized debate among rivalry theoretical schools (for interpreting and describing the identical phenomena) that is present from the very beginning of the discipline. In this study, the impact of A1-Hilla WWTP (w...Iraq is one of the countries that is suffering from water shortage problems and, for this reason, wastewater treatment plants become a necessity to minimize this problem. In this study, the impact of A1-Hilla WWTP (wastewater treatment plant) on the environment has been studied. This was achieved using SimaPro software package. This software is a powerful tool for analyzing the environmental impact on products during their whole life cycle. A huge amount of knowledge about the environment is built into the program and database, enabling to analyze a product with a minimum of specialized knowledge. The results of LCA (life cycle assessment) showed that the impact and damage on the environment by A1-Hilla WWTP was 41 bad points for each 1 m3 of treated wastewater. The most environmental impacts potentially were global warming, respiratory inorganics and non-renewable energy. The study also showed that most of the effects were the result of the use of cement, steel and electricity consumption.展开更多

Under the scenario created involving air contacts in a littoral environment, the assessment of the KBS model is conducted and the results show that the correlation between assessment and human operation officers' judgment was high. The fuzzy KBS with its corresponding toolkits is much more flexible to be integrated with other components of a command and control system, while the fine-tuning of membership functions and fuzzy inference rules are intensive, this makes any further modification a non-trivial task.展开更多
