This paper presents the results of an investigation on the influence of the distance between transformer and MV arresters on the surges at the transformer windings caused by direct strikes to the MV network. The analysis, performed through simulations using the Alternative Transients Program, shows that in general higher voltages are produced by subsequent strokes. Although in relation to the primary side the surges transferred to the secondary are much less affected by the distance between transformers and primary arresters, such distance should always be kept as short as possible in order to reduce the probability of occurrence of transformer failures due to over-voltages at the MV bushings.展开更多

The main difference between a conventional Field Emission Display (FED) device and a ItOPFED lies in the spacer structure. In a HOPFED, two dielectric plates, named hop and flu spacer, are sandwiched between the emitter and the front plate. The objective of this spacer structure is to improve the performance oF a FED substantially with notable contrast, color purity and luminance uniformity. In order to optimize the structure of the device and to make the electron spot on the screen match the requirement of the phosphor dot dimension, the influence of electrical and structural parameters of the device on the electron spot profile was studied by numerical simulation in this paper. Monte Carlo method was employed to calculate the potential distribution inside hop and flu spacers due to secondary electrons mechanism plays an important role in HOPFED. The results indicated that the potential distribution in the spacers and spot profile depended strongly on the hop voltage, anode voltage and spacer's layout. This study may provide a useful theoretical support for optimizing the structure in HOPFED.展开更多

The phase currents at both sides and the DC-link capacitor voltages were measured for the prediction of the neutral-point current. A quality function was found to balance the neutral-point, and a metabolic on-times distribution factor was used as a predicator to minimize the quality function at each switching state. Simulation results show that the proposed method produces smaller ripples in tested signals compared with the established one, namely, 9.15% less in a total harmonic distortion(THD) of line-to-line voltage, 1.08% less in the THD of phase current, and 0.9 V less in the ripple of the neutral-point voltage. The obtained experimental results show that the main harmonics of the line-to-line voltage and the phase current in the proposed method are improved by 10 d B and 6 d B, respectively, and the ripple of neutral-point voltage is halved compared to the established one.展开更多

This consideration is important for both measurement and protection functions of the digital protective relays. This is a study to ascertain the best options for a suitable solution to prevent CT saturation in relations to its protective capabilities during short circuit fault without compromising the CT accuracy class during normal operation of the system, while ensuring its conformity to the design requirement is within limit. The advantages of current transformers have proven not only to be reliable and safe, but also are of easy handling, reduction of the cost and components on the MV (medium voltage) switchgear. The purpose of this research is to identify best approach to resolve the existing problems in the current protection system. With the view of LPCT (low power current transformer) which has been newly constructed by few manufacturers to provide good protection and a wide range of measuring function without errors, some other solutions will be considered in this research.展开更多

Currently the value of over-voltage on transformer neutral point and the corresponding protection strategy is based on theoretical formula. This article uses the PSCAD/EMTDC software to calculate the over-voltage on the neutral point of 4 ungrounded power transformers in Chongqing 220 kV power grid. The result shows that the power frequency transient over-voltage on the neutrals may reach 178 kV. If the single-phase grounding fault occurs in ungrounded power system, the power frequency over-voltage on the neutrals will be more serious and rise to 138.6 kV. Non-full phase operation may cause serious ferro-resonance over-voltage on the neutrals of no-load transformer, which may last for seconds and may rise to 723.7 kV, causing serious threat to the transformer neutrals and line-side equipment. The article also studies the gap parameter which should be taken on the neutrals of 220 kV transformers at the end.展开更多
