A Study of ISA in Chinese Cultural Communication

The paper tentatively studies the function of the indirect speech act in Chinese cultural communication, namely, domestic communication. Two aspects are shown in this paper： communication between people of different social status, genders and casual relationships, and communication between people of same social status, genders and close relationships. Therefore, the study result can be concluded like this： whether the use of indirect speech act is successful or not always influences people＇s communication significantly.

Adapting communicative language teaching approach to China＇s context

The issue on which this essay focuses is how to adapt the Communicative Language Teaching （CLT） Approach to China＇s context. With the recent accession to the WTO, the long-awaited Olympic games in Beijing, China has made learning English a national priority. It is very important and necessary to research on how to adapt CLT flexibly and appropriately to China＇s context if most Chinese English learners are to gain a good grasp of oral English, and if specialist learning is to be achieved by those who need English for business and academic purposes. Therefore this essay is structured as follows： First, analyzing the different types of English teaching methods in China and then focusing on the CLT Method. By analyzing and contrasting these English teaching methods, the need to change the current English teaching methods in China will be discovered. Finally, it explains the problems of adopting the more modem CLT Approach and gives suggestions on how it may best be adapted to the Chinese context.

China English and College Intercultural Education:A Cultural Linguistic Perspective

In the era of globalization,English as an international language(EIL) is also the medium of intercultural communication for the international community.Based on the theory of cultural linguistics(CL),which regards language as culture-oriented rather than structure-oriented,Sharifian(2009,p.4) has proposed that varieties of English which constitute EIL result from the interaction between the English language and different local cultures.CL suggests that China English(CE) should be understood in this light:It is not a substandard interlanguage,but a variety of English with its own cultural value and right.This paper intends to systemically analyze the nature of CE and its value in intercultural communication so as to better understand current intercultural education.Over a long time,much emphasis has been laid on the importance of adapting to the target language culture to the neglect of home language culture in our College English classrooms,thus resulting in what is known as Chinese cultural aphasia.In the light of CL,intercultural communication competence(ICC) encompasses not only knowing English and adapting to its culture,but also using CE to introduce the native culture in which CE plays an irreplaceable role.Therefore,CE is undoubtedly a key remedy for Chinese cultural aphasia.More research on CL should be conducted as it provides felicitous disciplinary guidance for our college intercultural education.

A Contrastive Analysis of Three English Translation of Camel Xiangzi from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence

Nida＇ s Functional Equivalence Theory has made a great contribution to the translation industry, which means the translation should reach the functional equivalence between two languages rather than the rigid correspondence of the texts. Functional Equivalence Theory includes stylistic equivalence, glossary equivalence and passage equivalence. The literary work selected in this paper is a famous classic novel, Camel Xiangzi, in which the features of the language employed by author are fizll of＂Chinese characteristics.＂ Just because of the characteristics, the task is more difficult in the process of the wanslating. In this paper, it makes a contrastive analysis of the translations to the fourth chapter of Camel Xiangzi by using Nida＇s Functional Equivalence Theory. There are three kinds of English versions, which were selected from a Chinese-American translator Shi Xiaojing＇s translation Camel Xiangzi, American translator Evan King＇ s translation Rickshaw Boy and American translator Jean M.James＇ s translation Richshaw： the Novel Lo-t＇o Hsinang Tz~ Due to limited words, this paper mainly analyzes the novel from the glossary, the stylistic and the passage equivalence. The result is that Jean M.James＇ s translation maximizes to achieve Functional Equivalence Theory, it also tries to reach formal equivalence, and her Wanslafion compensates for lack of the theory. What＇ s more, it verifies the feasibility and directive significance in translation of functional equivalence.

Differences between Chinese and Western Culture in Business English Teaching

In the 21st century, with gradually accelerating process of globalization, international exchanges are increasingly frequent. We should understand that within the range of the same cultural context, people have little difficulties in communicating with others; however, if we use the same way to treat the one who is under other cultural backgrounds, they tend to have misunderstanding or confliction, affecting the interaction and communication and causing undue loss. Business English translation is communication process and tools held between people speaking different languages to conduct commercial communication. Culture is a factor in translation that cannot be ignored, different nations have different historical backgrounds, manners, customs, cultural traditions, therefore, business English translation must understand the cultural differences between China and the West, and tried to make these differences disappear in the interpretation process and find the exact words in the target language, so exotic cultural can represented in the target language.

Analysis of early history of Chinese by Cassirer＇s theory of language

The German master of philosophy--Ernest Cassirer＇s theory of language that covered most aspects ranged from sounds to forms was predominately related to his study of Indo-European languages. Whereas his fruitful researches are applicable to Chinese, though they were not clearly mentioned in his works as well as to its western counterparts. The essay thus is carried out around the major linguistic aspects--phonetics, formation of words and syntax to detect the applicability of Cassirer＇s theory to the early development of Chinese.

Landmarks of studies of China English as an international language： Retrospect and prospect

The current paper reviews some of the key studies into ＂China English＂ from the perspectives of World Englishes over the recent three decades in China and overseas, and it is focused on identifying the categories in definitions, the lexical and syntactical features, and the loan words and loaned translation in English newspapers in China. The current paper evaluates the seminal work, the key chronological studies into China English and classifies the meanings of those the loan words and loaned translation of the sampled ＂China English＂ as an Asian variety.

The overview of the language acquisition for Chinese city children aged 0-3 years

This paper examines the language development of Chinese children aged 0-3years in city family. About baby＇s language development by the time stages accordingly. Paying special attention to the efforts for the parents or caregivers. Infants receive more talking education and speak earlier. Most parents can hardly wait for their baby to say its first word and communicate with their baby. From about 2 years old, the child should be able to use simple phrases, retell simple story and even to sing song. Parents play an important role in this stage. By the 3 years children begin to use most of function words rather than omit them. And acquisition for the second language will help children＇s language development. The children have a gift for learning language.

The article describes semantic features of kinship terminology in modern Chinese language. To make a more complete analysis, the article compares the semantics of kinship terminology in Kazakh, Russian, English and Chinese languages, which belong to various language groups.

A contrastive Study of some English and Chinese Grammar items in the thinking from the perspective of＂ culture

Language carries culture, and culture contains rich language elements. At present,most scholars study the difference of the grammar between English and Chinese from the linguistic perspective, while it is very short to explain the difference of grammar between English and Chinese from cultural angle. So according to the contrastive analysis of culture difference of English grammar and Chinese grammar, it helps the language learners learn the grammar and use correct grammar, it is also of great help to the intercultural communication. It plays an active role to the teaching of grammar.

Teaching Chinese to English Tour Guide Interpreting

In the present study, some junior students of the English major were asked to verbalize or write their thoughts after interpreting. Besides, students＇ errors were also identified through observations by the researchers. As a result some of the mistakes made by students were found： lacking humor and variety in their interpreting, little vocabulary and variation in expression, etc.. Reasons were also analyzed which included that students were generally not familiar with some of the often-used sentence patterns for tour guide interpretation, and teachers are not using the suitable ways of teaching tour guide interpreting. To conclude, ways to solve these problems were recommended for readers＇ reference.

Foresights, Expectations and Implications of China＇s Foreign Language Proficiency Scaling and Rating Framework

Referring to the well established foreign language proficiency evaluation scale frameworks such as the CEFR （Common European Framework of Reference for Languages） in Europe and ILR （The Interagency Language Roundtable） scale in the United States, Chinese language education authority is dedicating great efforts to the contruction of the Chinese targeted and tailored national proficiency evaluation system. This initiative will tremendously subvert the traditional language learning and testing mechanism, bring phenomenal transformations and innovations to the future language learning and teaching approaches and methodologies, and meanwhile impose great influence on the language concerning administration and profession.

Developing Nominalization Awareness in Teaching Writing to Chinese Learners of English

Nominalization is one of the grammatical features introduced by Halliday and his colleagues in SFL （Systemic Functional Linguistics） theory. It helps create a style of writing with density, complexity, and abstract. For English learners, it is crucial to develop nominalization awareness in their writing. This paper first examines the main features ofnominalization in English; it then contrasts the writing style differences before and after the students were taught the features of nominalization and discusses problems found in teaching of nominalization. It finally provides some pedagogical implications for teaching writing to Chinese learners of English.

Illocutionary Force and Translation： A Case Study of Chinese Renditions of The Merry Wives of Windsor

This research seeks to contribute to translation studies by examining the illocutionary force of the speech act theory. It identifies two senses of illocutionary force： The active function of language is defined as lFl and the varying degrees of the strength of the speech act are defined as IF2. The implications of the two senses ofillocutionary force for translation studies are discussed in a case study of the translation of directives in Chinese versions of Shakespeare＇s play, The Merry Wives of Windsor. Translation shifts in transferring IF2, as manifested in pragmatic duality features of directness/indirectness, tone articles, repetition of verbs, action measure verbs, upgrader ＂,给我＂ and honorific addressing terms and vocatives are discussed. The notion＇s potential as a criterion to evaluate translation quality is also explored.

Analysis and Translation Strategies on Cultural Differences Between Chinese and Western

Language and culture are interactive and interdependent. Translation is not only the transfer between two languages, but also between two cultures. Therefore, cultural difference plays a significant role in translation. In the past decades, translation study has shifted from the purely linguistic level to cultural perspective, and study on cultural differences has brought a new world for the sake of translation studies. This paper tries to illustrate the connection between language and culture, the correlation between culture and translation, analyze the main aspects of cultural differences between Chinese and Western, and sum up translation strategies of domestication and foreignization as well as specific translation methods on the consideration of cultural differences. Finally, the paper proposes that translators should pay attention to cultural differences and adjust target text in accordance with cultural differences

Chinese-English and Its Linguistic Features

Chinese-English and Chinglish are inter-language variants because Chinese cultural influences are different. Chinese-English has its own complete system, regularity, and stability.
