Objective: To evaluate three-dimensional bronchial artery imaging charactersin central lung cancer and applied values with multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT) to provide theoreticalevidence on blood supply and intervention therapy. Methods: Eighteen patients with central lungcancer underwent MSCT with real time helical thin-slice CT scanning. Three-dimensional bronchialartery reconstruction was done at the console work-station. The space anatomical characters ofbronchial artery were observed through different rotations. Results: For 6 cases, thethree-dimensional images of bronchial artery (33.33%) could exactly show the origins, the routes(lung inner segment and mediatism segment) and the diameters of bronchial arteries. Vision rate ofbronchial arteries was the highest in pulmonary artery stricture and truncation groups, and thevessels' diameter became larger apparently. These characters demonstrated blood supply of this kindof central lung cancer come from bronchial artery. Volume rendering images were the best ones amongthree-dimensional images. Conclusion: Three-dimensional imaging with MSCT in bronchial artery canreveal the anatomical characters of bronchial artery and provide theoretical evidence on bloodsupply and intervention therapy of central lung cancer. 展开更多

Background Arterial stiffness and homocysteine are both powerful predictors of cardiovascular disease, especially in older popula tions. Previous studies have investigated the association of homocysteine with arterial stiffness in human subjects, while the relationship between homocysteine and arterial stiffness in the elderly is still indefinite. The current study examined the association of homocysteine with arterial stiffness in Chinese community-based elderly persons. Methods We related serum levels of homocysteine to two measures of arte- rial stiffness (carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV) and carotid-radial PWV) in 780 participants (46.3% men, mean age 71.9 years (ranging 65-96 years old)) from two communities of Beijing, China. Arterial stiffness were measured within two days of the time of bio- marker measurement. Results In multiple-adjusted models, homocysteine levels was strongly associated with the carotid-femoral PWV (standardized 13 = 0.13, P 〈 0.001), even after adjustment for classical risk factors of cardiovascular disease. The association is also stronger when the carotid-femoral PWV is elevated above normal, whereas no significant association with homocysteine was observed for ca-rotid-radial PWV. Conclusions In Chinese elderly persons, serum homocysteine levels are associated with alterations of aortic stiffness. 展开更多

Chinese Angelica is sweet and pungent in flavour and warm in property. It has the effect of tonifying blood and activating blood circulation and is frequently applied for such gynecological diseases as irregular menstruation and weak constitution after delivery. Therefore, Chinese Angelica has also the name of 'sacred medicament in gynecology'. 展开更多

Free radical induced neuronal damage is involved in stroke. Several in vitro and in vivo studies have proved that antioxidant could act as neuroprotective agent through intervening with flee-radical mediated apoptosis in the ischemic penumbra. In particular, natural products which contain antioxidant properties have undoubtedly potential for stroke treatment. In the present study, therapeutic effects of Braintone on Wistar rats undergone middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was evaluated. Gene expression levels of pro-apoptotic genes (AT2 receptor, FAS, BAX and BCL-XS) were showed to be significantly reduced in Braintone treated groups (0.4-, 0.72-, 0.76-, 0.32-fold, P〈0.05) as compared to vehicle group. Significant reduction ofimmunoreactivity of protein production of these genes, together with least nuclear green fluorescence observed in TUNEL, Braintone as an antioxidant drug, is concluded to have promising therapeutic effect for stroke treatment. 展开更多
