The active component of Huang Lian ([symbol: see text] Rhizoma Coptidis) can prolong the myocardial action potential and antagonize the chloroform-, aconitine-, barium chloride-, epinephrine- or coronary ligation-induced arrhythmia by blocking the calcium channel. Ku Shen ([symbol: see text] Radix Sophorae Flavescentis) contains matrine and flavones, which act as quinidine to decrease the excitability of the myocardium, prolong the refractory period, and inhibit the ectopic cardiac rhythm. And Dan Shen ([symbol: see text] Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae) has the action of improving the ischemic state of the myocardium by dilating the coronary vessels. In conclusion, the definite therapeutic effects of Huang Lian Sheng Mai Yin in treating ventricular, atrial and nodal arrhythmia suggests that the prescription is rational and accords with the therapeutic principle of TCM. Objective:To observe the clinical effects of medical cupping for metabolic syndrome(MetS)with abdominal obesity.Methods:In total,75 patients with MetS with abdominal obesity were randomly divided into three groups:med...Objective:To observe the clinical effects of medical cupping for metabolic syndrome(MetS)with abdominal obesity.Methods:In total,75 patients with MetS with abdominal obesity were randomly divided into three groups:medical cupping,acupuncture,and waiting.Patients in the medical cupping group received smearing of Chinese medicine and cupping twice a week for 8 weeks.Patients in the acupuncture group received acupuncture on regulating the Dai meridian three times a week for 8 weeks.The waiting group was observed without any intervention.Changes in metabolic indices,including waist circumference(WC),blood pressure,fasting triglyceride(TG),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),fasting blood glucose(FBG),2-h blood glucose(2hBG),and subcutaneous fat thickness were observed and compared before and after treatment among the three groups.Results:After the treatment,the WC,TG,FBG,and 2hBG in the medical cupping and acupuncture groups were lower than those in the waiting group.No difference was observed between the medical cupping and acupuncture groups.The subcutaneous fat thickness at the upper umbilicus,right side of the umbilicus,and waist in the medical cupping and acupuncture groups were lower than those in the waiting group.The subcutaneous fat thickness at the upper umbilicus and waist in the medical cupping group was lower than that in the acupuncture group.The MetS prevalence in the medical cupping and acupuncture groups was lower than that in the waiting group.Conclusion:medical cupping treatment can effectively alleviate metabolic indices and subcutaneous fat thickness at the abdomen in patients with MetS and abdominal obesity and decrease the MetS prevalence.Its efficacy was better than that of waiting and similar to that of acupuncture.The frequency of medical cupping is lower than that of the acupuncture.Meanwhile,it circumvents some patients’fear of acupuncture.medical cupping should be clinically promoted.展开更多

Studies have found that CM ingredients are the materi...Objective:Nature theory of Chinese medicine (CM) is the core basic theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), in which cold-hot nature is the focus of research. Studies have found that CM ingredients are the material basis for the production of medicine natures. Therefore, it is speculated that CMs with similar composition of substances should have similar medicinal nature. Modern work studies cold-hot medicine of CMs with chemical fingerprinting technology because the chemical fingerprint data of CM can reflect the whole composition of CM ingredients. Methods:To verify the hypothesis above, in this work, we study quantifying the similarity of CM ingredients to fingerprint similarity, and explore the relationship between the composition of CMs and cold-hot nature. Firstly, we utilize ultraviolet (UV) spectrum technology to analyze 61 CMs, which have clear cold-hot nature (including 30 ‘cold’ CMs and 31 ‘hot’ CMs). Secondly, with the constructed fingerprint database of CMs, a distance metric learning algorithm is studied to metric the similarity of UV fingerprints. Finally, a retrieval scheme is proposed to build a predictive identification model to identify cold-hot nature of CMs. Results:By means of numerous experiment analyses, ultraviolet spectrum data of petroleum ether solvent can better represent CMs to distinguish between cold and hot natures. Comparing with existing classical models, the proposed identification scheme has better predictive performance. Conclusion:The experimental results prove our inference that CMs with similar composition of substances should have similar medicinal nature. The proposed prediction model is proved to be effective and feasible.展开更多
