The result shows that, it is feasible to recons...Vegetation evolution in the northern South China Sea region since 40 500 a BP is reconstructed using biomization procedure based on pollen data from deep sea core 17940. The result shows that, it is feasible to reconstruct palaeovegetation using biomization procedure, when pollen, particularly Pinus pollen, transported by mind over long distance is excluded. Results from factor analysis suggest that humidity and temperature are the two main factors determining vegetation evolution on land around the northern South China Sea. From 40 500 a BP to 11 100 a BP, broad-leaved evergreen forest (WAMF), and montane conifers(MGRF) occurred on hills and low mountains; while steppe (STEP) predominated on the exposed shelf. The main feature of the vegetation evolution is the frequent alternation between MGRF (or WAMF) and STEP, implying abrupt changes in millennium scale between humid/cold and dry/temperate climate. All abrupt climate events could be broadly correlated with Henrich events and Dansggard-Oscherge events. One of the events around 12 700 a BP, sees the occurrence of MGRF, suggesting that climate turned humid and cold rapidly. This may be correlated with the Younger Dryas event; Broad-leaved evergreen (WAMF) predominates since 11 000 a BP. During the early Holocene and late Holocene tropical rainforest (TRFO) or tropical seasonal forest (TSFO) occurred several times.展开更多

AIM:To find a rapid and efficient analysis method of gastrointestinal microflora in Pi-deficient(spleen-deficient) rats and to evaluate traditional Chinese drugs.METHODS:Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus...AIM:To find a rapid and efficient analysis method of gastrointestinal microflora in Pi-deficient(spleen-deficient) rats and to evaluate traditional Chinese drugs.METHODS:Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus-PCR(ERIC-PCR) based assay was performed to examine changes of intestinal microflora in two Pi-deficienct animal models and to evaluate the efficacy of four traditional Chinese drugs as well as a probiotic recipe and another therapy in Pi-deficient rats.RESULTS:A molecular marker was identified for Pi-deficiency in rats.The pharmacodynamic evaluation system,including identified molecular markers(net integral area and abundance of DNA bands),Shannon's index for diversity of intestinal microflora,and Sorenson's pairwise similarity coefficient,was established.The four major clinical recipes of traditional Chinese drugs for Pi-deficiency in rats,especially at their medium dose(equivalence to the clinical dose),produced more pronounced recovery activities in Pi-deficient rats,while higher doses of these recipes did not show a better therapeutic effect but some toxic effects such as perturbation deterioration of intestinal microflora.CONCLUSION:Both fingerprint analysis and identified marker can show Pi-deficiency in rats and its difference after treatment.The identified molecular marker may be applied in screening for the active compounds both in relative traditional Chinese drugs and in pharmacodynamic study of Pi-deficiency in rats.展开更多

For certain hyperon coupling, the weaker hyperon-hyperon interaction can lead to the heavier hadronic star, which accords with the observation of heavy neutron star in X-ray binaries. We find that the threshold densities of the hyperons with larger masses are brought to a lower values with the increase of the hyperon-hyperon interaction. The possibility of the existence of hyperon star is checked with the consideration of hyperon-hyperon interaction.展开更多
This paper established a geophysical retrieval algorithm for sea surface wind vector, sea surface temperature, columnar atmospheric water vapor, and columnar cloud liquid water from WindSat, using the measured brightn...This paper established a geophysical retrieval algorithm for sea surface wind vector, sea surface temperature, columnar atmospheric water vapor, and columnar cloud liquid water from WindSat, using the measured brightness temperatures and a matchup database. To retrieve the wind vector, a chaotic particle swarm approach was used to determine a set of possible wind vector solutions which minimize the difference between the forward model and the WindSat observations. An adjusted circular median filtering function was adopted to remove wind direction ambiguity. The validation of the wind speed, wind direction, sea surface temperature, columnar atmospheric water vapor, and columnar liquid cloud water indicates that this algorithm is feasible and reasonable and can be used to retrieve these atmospheric and oceanic parameters. Compared with moored buoy data, the RMS errors for wind speed and sea surface temperature were 0.92 m s^(-1) and 0.88℃, respectively. The RMS errors for columnar atmospheric water vapor and columnar liquid cloud water were 0.62 mm and 0.01 mm, respectively, compared with F17 SSMIS results. In addition, monthly average results indicated that these parameters are in good agreement with AMSR-E results. Wind direction retrieval was studied under various wind speed conditions and validated by comparing to the Quik SCAT measurements, and the RMS error was 13.3?. This paper offers a new approach to the study of ocean wind vector retrieval using a polarimetric microwave radiometer.展开更多

An empirical approach has been developed to analyze the nonlinear response of a pile group with arbitrarily distributed piles subjected to combined lateral and torsional loading.In this approach,the concept of instant...An empirical approach has been developed to analyze the nonlinear response of a pile group with arbitrarily distributed piles subjected to combined lateral and torsional loading.In this approach,the concept of instantaneous twist center is applied to analyze the displacement relationship of pile heads and establish the static equilibrium equations of the pile cap.The horizontal interaction among the individual piles is considered through the generalized p-multiplier.The coupling effect of lateral resistance on the torsional resistance of each pile is quantified using an empirical factorβ;the lateral and torsional nonlinear responses of individual piles are modeled by p-y andτ-θcurves,respectively.The proposed approach not only captures the most significant aspect of the group effect and coupling effect in a pile group subjected to combined lateral and torsional loading,but also automatically updates p-multipliers of individual piles based on pile cap displacements.The proposed approach was verified using results of model tests on pile groups subjected to lateral loading,torsional loading,and combined lateral and torsional loading,separately.In general,the pile cap response and the transfer of applied loads in the pile groups agree well with the test results.展开更多
Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a histologically identifiable gtomerular injury often leading to proteinuria and renal failure. To identify its causal genes, whole-exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing...Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a histologically identifiable gtomerular injury often leading to proteinuria and renal failure. To identify its causal genes, whole-exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing were performed on a large Chinese cohort that comprised 40 FSGS families, 50 sporadic FSGS patients, 9 independent autosomal recessive Atport's syndrome (ARAS) patients, and 190 ethnically matched healthy controls. Patients with extrarenal manifestations, indicating systemic diseases or other known hereditary renal diseases, were excluded. Heterozygous COL4A3 mutations were identified in five (12.5%) FSGS families and one (2%) sporadic FSGS patient. All identified mutations disrupted highly conserved protein sequences and none of them was found in either public databases or the 190 healthy controls. Of the FSGS patients with heterozygous COL4A3 mutations, segmental thinning of the glomerular base membrane (GBM) was only detected in the patient with electronic microscopy examination results available. Five ARAS patients (55.6%) had homozygous or compound-heterozygous mutations in COL4.43 or COL4A4. Serious changes in the G BM, hearing loss, and ocular abnormalities were found in 100%, 80%, and 40% of the ARAS patients, respectively. Overall, a new sub- group of FSGS patients resulting from heterozygous C01.4A3 mutations was identified. The mutations are relatively frequent in famiUes diagnosed with inherited forms of FSGS. Thus, we suggest screening for C01.4A3 mutations in familial FSGS patients.展开更多
