Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Chinese-translated Behavioral Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire-2 (C-BREQ-2) among Chinese university students from the Mainland and Hong Kong of China. Methods: University students from the Mainland (n = 191) and Hong Kong (n=194) of China participated in this study. Factorial validity, discriminant validity, nomological validity, internal reliability, and measurement invariance across sample of the C-BREQ-2 were examined. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis provided support for the factorial validity of the 18-item, 5-factor structure C-BREQ-2. Examination of the 95% confidence interval of the inter-factor correlations suggested that the C-BREQ-2 assesses related but distinct constructs, which provided support for its discriminant validity. The internal consistency reliability of the C-BREQ-2 was found acceptable. Examination of the pattern of inter-factor correlations between different regulations suggested that a simplex-like pattern was displayed, which provided evidence for the nomological validity of C-BREQ-2. The results from multi-group confirmatory factor analysis suggested that the factor loadings and variances/ covariances of the C-BREQ-2 measurement model were invariant across the Chinese university students in the Mainland and Hong Kong of China. Conclusion: The current study provided further psychometric evidence for the C-BREQ-2, which makes the further application and research of self-determination theory (SDT) based motivation in relation to exercise and physical activity in the Mainland of China context possible. 展开更多

Based on Vermeer's skopos theory, the core theory of functionalist approaches, the paper analyzes authentic examples and highlights the techniques of translation for this type. With representative examples, the paper illustrates the necessity of adopting skopos theory in Chinese-English translation of banners for conventions and exhibitions. 展开更多

Second language learners make errors in both comprehension and production in their Inter-language, and learners' errors have all along been one of the main focuses on language pedagogy. Based on the theoretical study of Inter-language, transfer, Contrastive Analysis and Error Analysis as well as the correlations among them, this paper concentrates on some production errors caused by negative transfer. Some typical inter-lingual errors made by Chinese-speaking English learners are categorized and analyzed from the syntactic perspective and lexical perspective. Hopefully by such an analysis of language transfer, the characteristics of Chinese-speaking English learners' Inter-language will be revealed, and it might be helpful for English teaching and enhancing learners' English proficiency. 展开更多

As a professional translator, Chinese history lecturer and academic writer, Julia Lovell has made a lot of contributions in translating modem Chinese literary works into English. But the field of translation studies has not given due attention to her so far. Based on her own practice and understanding of translation, she presented the notion of faithful recreation as her translation principle. This article sheds light on how she implemented her translation notion in the process of her translation, taking her version of A Dictionary of Maqiao as a case to examine the effectiveness of her work under the guidance of faithful recreation. The discussion mainly focuses on the sound level, the grammatical level, pragmatic level, and original creativity 展开更多

In the 21st century, with gradually accelerating process of globalization, international exchanges are increasingly frequent. We should understand that within the range of the same cultural context, people have little difficulties in communicating with others; however, if we use the same way to treat the one who is under other cultural backgrounds, they tend to have misunderstanding or confliction, affecting the interaction and communication and causing undue loss. Business English translation is communication process and tools held between people speaking different languages to conduct commercial communication. Culture is a factor in translation that cannot be ignored, different nations have different historical backgrounds, manners, customs, cultural traditions, therefore, business English translation must understand the cultural differences between China and the West, and tried to make these differences disappear in the interpretation process and find the exact words in the target language, so exotic cultural can represented in the target language. 展开更多

Although in China, ordinary translation theories favor the foreignizing strategy in translating culture, and outside China, there are opposing strategies between the cultural studies school and deconstructionist school, translation teachers should be fully aware of their respective revelations and limitations to translation teaching. This paper holds that in undergraduate C-E (Chinese-English~ translation teaching, the linguistic strategy is assimilation rather than alienation, thus, idiomaticness and preciseness should be emphasized. In teaching cultural translation strategy, first, we should promote students' cultural competence, which includes culture perceptive competence, culture comparison competence, culture evaluation competence, and culture mediation competence. Second, we need differentiate cultural strategies to translate literary and practical materials. In translating practical materials, functionality determines adaptation or exoticization; in translating literary materials, when cultural factor is the topic of writing, exoticization is employed for the main except that part of politeness system in institutional culture, abstract concrete conversion and description affection model in spiritual culture are adapted. When cultural factor is the background of writing, it is the target text aestheticality and readership intertextuality that determine adaptation or exoticization. 展开更多

Translation is not only a language activity, but also a thinking activity, which involves the conversion of the two languages, and the language is both a thinking tool and the result of thinking. Language and thought are closely related, and they are both interacting and interdependent. Different thinking determines that the expression of both English and Chinese on the same topic is also different. Through the relationship between language and thought, standing on a higher philosophical point of thinking, we can investigate the effect of the differences between English and Chinese translation. The translator can pay more attention to the difference' s impact of translation, which assure a higher accuracy of the translation. 展开更多

The past decade has witnessed dramatic changes and impressive progress in interpreter training in China due to technological innovations, policy support from the Ministry of Education, increasing demand for qualified interpreters in the market, and ceaseless efforts from interpreting trainers and researchers. Meanwhile, research efforts have been made in the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) into interpreter training. Chinese researchers have explored a wide range of pedagogical factors in this regard, including training models, principles, materials and strategies as well as autonomous learning, assessment and trainer/trainee roles. This paper reviews the major studies in this field and may serve as a reference for international interpreting practice and research. It argues that more attention should be focused on micro-perspectives, more empirical research methods are to be adopted, and more professional training tools are to be developed and tried out. 展开更多

A fertile ground is needed for a work to be translated and accepted successfully in the target culture, which includes enough understanding of the ideology and poetics of the source text. Sometimes, a work could be translated and introduced into a culture too early before the readers there can understand the foreign idea and poetics. The innovative language and narrative experiment in Finnegans Wake are far ahead of the literary tradition in contemporary China, which makes it hard to be understood and accepted wholeheartedly by most Chinese readers. However, such experimental works should not be translated in a domesti- cating way to make them easier. If the experimental poetics in Finnegans Wake were kept in the translation as much as possible, it could advance the acceptance of new ideas and poetics in modem Chinese literature, especially when some efforts are given to make the translated work popular. 展开更多
