Methods The acute bacterial cholangitis was induced by injecting 1 mL of 1×10 8 cfu·mL -1 Escherchia coli suspension into common bile duit. The serum nitrous oxide (NO) levels were measured using nitric acid reductase kit. Phospholipase A 2 (PLA 2) activity was assayed by a method of acid titration (microassay). Serum tumor necrcsis factor α(TNF α), inferleukin 6 (IL 6) and plasma thromboxane B 2 (TXB 2), 6 keto platelet growth factor 1 (PGF 1α ) were determined by radioimmunoassay. Results Compared with control group, serum NO, PLA 2, TNF α, IL 6 and plasma TXB 2 levels increased significantly in model group ( P <0.01) while those of DBQ groups decreased significantly( P <0 01). Conclusion DBQ dramatically inhibits the overproduction of pro inflammatory factor PLA 2 and inflammatory cytokine. Hence, the mechanism of DBQ underlying anti inflammatory and protective effect against acute bacterial cholangitis in rabbits has been revealed.展开更多
We have successfully developed Fengshi Xiandan (风湿仙丹) and used it to treat 53 cases of rheumatoid arthritis (RA),with indomethacin used to treat another 53 cases of RA as the controls.The results showed that the r...We have successfully developed Fengshi Xiandan (风湿仙丹) and used it to treat 53 cases of rheumatoid arthritis (RA),with indomethacin used to treat another 53 cases of RA as the controls.The results showed that the rate of cure and obvious effect was 54.7% and the total effective rate was 92.4% in the treatment group,as compared to 26.4% and 66.0% respectively in the control group,with an obvious difference in curative effect between the two groups (P<0.01).The improvement of all the main clinical symptoms and signs except arthralgia in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The improvement of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR),rheumatoid factor (RF),C-reaction protein (CRP), immunoglobulin (Ig),T-lymphocyte subgroups,micro-circulation in nail fold,and red blood cell (RBC) and hemoglobin (Hb) of anemia patients in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01).There was an obvious difference (P<0.05 or P<0.01) in superoxide dismutase (SOD) of RBC and lipid peroxide (LPO) of plasma before treatment in the two groups as compared to normal group (P<0.05 or P<0.01).The level of SOD and LPO after treatment in the treatment group obviously tended to normal as compared to that befbre treatment (P<0.05 or P<0.01).The reduction of LPO in the treatment group was obviously superior to that in the control group (P<0.01).The result shows that Fengshi Xiandan (风湿仙丹) with an obvious curative effect on RA can not only control the symptoms of RA but also improve its pathologic damage and prevent its development.展开更多

We have previously found that RSM has neuroprotective effect on ...Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae (RSM), a well-known traditional Chinese medicinal herb, has been used to improve blood circulation and resolve blood stasis. We have previously found that RSM has neuroprotective effect on ischemia and/ or ischemia-reperfusion rats. The purpose of this study was to obtain further information on the mechanism of the RSM-in-duced neuroprotection and to examine the neuroprotective effect on neurons exposed to anoxia. The effect of RSM on anoxic damage in cultured hippocampal neurons of neonatal rat was investigated by using morphological changes and heat shock protein 70kD (HSP70) expression as indicators. RSM given 0.5h before 2h-anoxia followed by 48 hours reoxygenation could significantly increase survival rate of hippocampal neurons and number of HSP70 positive cells. The results suggest that RSM has a direct neuroprotective effects on anoxic damage in hippocampal neurons.展开更多
