The design parameters play a very significant role in determining the requirements of the towing force of a vessel. A multi-objective genetic algorithm based on analytical models of the plow surface has been examined and applied in efforts to obtain optimal design of the plow. For a specific soil condition, the draft force and moldboard surface area which are the key parameters in the working process of the plow are optimized by finding the corresponding optimal values of the plow blade penetration angle and two surface angles of the main cutting blade of the plow. Parameters such as the moldboard side angle of deviation, moldboard lift angle, angular variation of the tangent line, and the spanning length are also analyzed with respect to the force of the moldboard surface along soil flow direction. Results show that the optimized plow has an improved plow performance. The draft forces of the main cutting blade and the moldboard are 10.6% and 7%, respectively, less than the original design. The standard deviation of Gaussian curvature of moldboard is lowered by 64.5%, which implies that the smoothness of the optimized moldboard surface is much greater than the original.展开更多

To relieve the organ shortage, current transplant strategies have implemented extended criteria, which include the use of liver from patients with signs of past or present hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection. While the use of liver grafts from donors with evidence of past HBV infection is quite limited, some data have been collected regarding the feasibility of transplanting a liver graft from a hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag) positive donor. The aim of the present work was to review the literature regarding liver transplants from HBs Ag-positive donors. A total of 17 studies were identified by a search in Medline. To date, HBs Ag positive grafts have preferentially been allocated to HBs Ag positive recipients. The large majority of these patients continue to be HBs Ag positive despite the use of immunoglobulin, and infection prevention can only be guaranteed by using antiviral prophylaxis. Although serological persistence is evident, no significant HBV-related disease has been observed, except in patients coinfected with delta virus. Consistently less data are available for HBs Ag negative recipients, although they are mostly promising. HBs Agpositive grafts could be an additional organ source for liver transplantation, provided that the risk of reinfection/reactivation is properly prevented.展开更多

The glass bead was treated with the block copolymer coupling agent, and then studied by transmission electron microscopy. The result showed that strong interaction was formed between the block copolymer coupling agent and the surface of glass bead, and then the block of poly(n-butylacrylate) formed a layer of film on the surface.展开更多

In order to study the effect ofb on the wettability of the rough surface, the effects of apparent contact angle (CA) and sliding angle (a) of the droplet on the rough surface were measured with the contact angle meter. The results show that the experimental values of CA well agree with the classical wetting theory and a decreases with the increase of b. Two drop shapes exist on the samples' surface, corresponding to the Cassie state and the Wenzel state respectively. The contact state in which a drop would settle depends typically on the size of b. On the role of gravitation, the irreversible transition of a drop from Cassie state to Wenzel state should occur at a certain space of the square pillars. Since the transition has implications on the application of super-hydrophobic rough surfaces, theoretically, the prediction of wetting state transition on square pillar array micro-structured surfaces provides an intuitionistic guidance for the design of steady superhydrophobic surfaces.展开更多

A variety of materials was used to the construction, with special emphasis on using environmentally friendly non-toxic materials. The structure's core consisted of reinforced concrete frames with masonry infill walls. Inside faces of the walls and the roof's outside face were covered with proprietary composite panels, which are manufactured with a mixture of cement, volcanic ash, and local sawmill waste. These panels were analyzed for their physical and chemical properties, as well as for their resistance to decay and insects when subjected to extreme conditions for 15 years. The panels have also shown to provide thermal insulation and nonflammable when in direct contact with fire. The roof surface was further covered with a blend of local drought-resistant succulents and cacti. This study provides a detailed review of the construction process and materials employed.展开更多

This thesis tries to analyze its three themes: the Colonists' material essence, the dark side of human nature, and the disillusionment of civilization. Kurtz, the main character in the novel, is characterized by his greed for material gain and power. The dark side of human nature is reflected in Kurtz's cruel behavior towards the natives, his sense of superiority to the marginalized, and his dominance in discourse over the colonial people. Along with the colonists' crazy behaviors, there is disillusion with the modem civilization.展开更多
