This paper presents the results of active damping realized by a piezoelectric active member to control the vibration of a four-bay four-longern aluminum truss structure with cantilever boundary. The active member, which utilizes a piezoelectric actuating unit and an integrated load cell, is designed for vibration control of the space truss structures. Active damping control is realized using direct velocity feedback around the active member. The placement of the active member as one of the most important factor of affecting the control system performance, is also investigated by modal dissipation energy ratio as indicator. The active damping effectiveness is evaluated by comparing the closed-loop response with the open loop response.展开更多

Through theoretical analysis, a simplified physical model is established under some hypotheses and a series of motion equations are deduced. According to the transmissibility curve simulation under different electric field strengths, the main factors influencing ER isolator’s working properties have been ascertained. Finally, it proves that ER isolator works well in both low and high frequency zones, it can decrease the force transmitted and enlarge the isolation frequency domain efficiently.展开更多

Two different models of the MR-damper are integrated ...A semi-active force tracking PI controller is formulated and analyzed for a magnetorheological (MR) fluid-based damper in conjunction with a quarter-vehicle model. Two different models of the MR-damper are integrated into the closed-loop system model, which includes: a model based upon the mean force-velocity (f-v) behaviour; and a model synthesis comprising inherent nonsmooth hysteretic force and the force limiting properties of the MR damper. The vehicle models are analyzed to study the vibration attenuation performance of the MR-damper using the semi-active force tracking PI control algorithm. The simulation results are also presented to demonstrate the influence of the damper nonlinearity, specifically the hysteresis, on the suspension performance. The results show that the proposed control strategy can yield superior vibration attenuation performance of the vehicle suspension actuated by the controllable MR-damper not only in the sprung mass resonance and the ride zones, but also in the vicinity of the wheel-hop. The results further show that the presence of damper hystersis deteriorates the suspension performance.展开更多

Applying KBM Asympto-tic method, the vibration of the system in case of weak semi-active control is studied. ln pcactice, there are two types of vibration isolation. One is to isolate the transmitting of the cyclicunbalanced force generated by the revolving machine to the surroundings. The other is to isolatethe transmitting of the vibration displacement of the surroundings to precise equipment. Deduc-ing the influence of the roadway unflatness on vehicles also belongs to this type. For the firsttype of isolation system, the damper always dissipates energy, and the total work done by the spring in a vibration cycle is zero. For the second type of isolation system, the work done by the damper sometimes is positive, and sometimes negative. The damper dissipates less energy. In wind tunnel tests,long cantilever stings are usually used to support aerodynamic models.However,this kind of sting support system is prone to vibration problems due to its low damping,which limits the test envelope...In wind tunnel tests,long cantilever stings are usually used to support aerodynamic models.However,this kind of sting support system is prone to vibration problems due to its low damping,which limits the test envelope and affects the data quality.It is shown in many studies that the sting vibration can be effectively reduced by using active sting dampers based on piezoelectric actuators.This paper attempts to review the research progress of piezoelectric vibration control in wind tunnel tests,covering the design of active sting dampers,control methods and wind tunnel applications.First of all,different design schemes of active sting dampers are briefly introduced,along with the vibration damping principle.Then,a comprehensive review of the control methods for active sting dampers is presented,ranging from classic control methods,like PID control algorithm,to various intelligent control methods.Furthermore,the applications of active sting dampers and controllers in different wind tunnels are summarized to evaluate their vibration damping effect.Finally,the remaining problems that need to be solved in the future development of piezoelectric vibration control in wind tunnel tests are discussed.展开更多

The magneticfield of the disc-type MR fluid damper is analysed by the finite element method ; the controllability of the disctype MR fluid damper on the dynamic behaviour of a rotor system ; and the effectiveness of the disc-type MR fluid damper in controlling the vibration of a rotor system, are studied in a flexible rotor system with an over-hung disc. It is shown that the magnetic flux density of the disc-type MR fluid damper in the working areas can significantly change with the applied current in the coil ; and that the dynamic behavior of the disc-type MR fluid damper can be varied by the application of an external magnetic field produced by a low voltage electromagnetic coil. The disc-type MR fluid damper can significantly change the dynamic characteristics of a rotor system, provided that the location of the disk-type MR fluid damper is carefully chosen. The disc-type MR fluid damper is a new actuator with good dynamic characteristics for rotating machinery.展开更多

The passive damping method by applying strong DC magnetic field requires too much time. So an active damping method by longitude marking lines is proposed to fulfill the fine damping for solid ESG rotor. The shape of rotor marking lines and the principle of fine damping are introduced. The simulation results prove that this fine damping method can effectively solve the problem of damping error introduced by active damping with equatorial marking line. The estimating resuits for damping time indicate that the fine damping time is less than 10 percent of passive damping time.展开更多

In this way many master equations (respectively describing damping oscillator, laser, phase sensitive, and phase diffusion processes with different initial density operators) can be concisely solved. Specially, for a damping process characteristic of the decay constant k we find that the matrix element of p(t) at time t in 〈η| representation is proportional to that of the initial po in the decayed entangled state (ηe^-kt| representation, accompanying with a Gaussian damping factor. Thus we have a new insight about the nature of the dissipative process. The piezoelectric damping patches are under control of PID controller (matlab simulating) in voltage defference. Here, we use the software PRO/ENGINEER to design and model a wind turbine blade before using COMSOL to simulate the dynamic motion of the wind turbine blade and its interaction with aerodynamic force of wind in finite element method. Some different models are built-- the original turbine blade and the turbine blade with damping patches on different location and quantity. Then, according to the simulation results, we compare the effects of passive and active damping control, also the effect of patches locations and quantities under different wind speed. This research can provide a direction for future study about ways to decrease vibration of turbine blades.展开更多

The semi-active control strategy based on fuzzy control algorithm was adopted to determine the optimal output control force based on the responses of jacket platforms. A typical jacket platform in Mexico Gulf was selected as the numerical example to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed control method. Furthermore, a model experiment was performed to validate the results of the numerical simulation. The experimental model of the jacket platform was designed based on dynamical similarity criterion by the scale of 1:50. Both of the numerical and experimental results show that the semi-active control system with the MR damper can reduce vibrations of jacket platforms effectively and at the same time the control effect is stable.展开更多
