The objective of this study is to study the e...This paper analyzed the water-retention mechanism of feldspathic sandstone (fine-(〈 1 mm diam.) and gravel-sized (2-3 cm diam.) in Mu Us Sandy Land, Northwest China. The objective of this study is to study the effect of feldspathic sandstone amendment on water retention in sandy land. The results showed that as the proportion of fine feldspathic sandstone in the sandy land soil increased, the soil texture changed from sand to silt loam, the capillary po- rosity gradually increased from 26.3% to 44.9%, and the soil saturated hydraulic conductivity decreased from 7.10 ram/rain to 0.07 mm/min. Feldspathic sandstone gravel formed micro-reservoirs in the sandy land soil, playing the role of a 'water absorbent' and 'water retaining agent' in sandy land. Amendment with feldspathic sandstone can increase water retention in the arable layer of sandy land by 67%. This study provides a theoretical basis for the amelioration of sandy land on a large scale. It can be concluded that amendment with feldspathic sandstone can improve the physical properties of sandy land soil and increase soil water retention.展开更多

The Cold War, the Space Race, the construction of a new middle class in most western societies led by the postwar economic prosperity with...During the 1960s, many changes reshaped the economy, the society and the arts. The Cold War, the Space Race, the construction of a new middle class in most western societies led by the postwar economic prosperity with unprecedented urban growth followed by severe environmental problems fostered the design of spectacular urban utopian cities and mega-architectures. In those years, Japan was the source of highly influential bold and visionary urban and architectural ideas which relied on advanced technology. These ideas were conceived on the thought that cities could be seen as gigantic but impermanent entities able to transform itself according to an organic process of adaptation of its elementary components. This paper briefly revisits and critically discusses the legacy of the iconic mega-strnctural projects of Japanese Metabolist Movement and other visionary architects and planners of the 1960s, such as Paolo Soleri, Buckminster Fuller, Archigram. It attempts to enlighten the continuity with contemporary innovative and experimental urban models and ideas for the society and the city of the future, such as the Smart Cities, Eco-Cities, Green Urbanism, whose design is led by concerns related to climate change, the necessity of energy efficiency, the improvement of urban landscape and the valorization of depleted natural resources.展开更多
As in the other countries around the world, banking systems in Eurasian economies, comprised of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, were adversely af...As in the other countries around the world, banking systems in Eurasian economies, comprised of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, were adversely affected by the 2008 global crisis. A common challenge across most economies is to revive private-sector credit growth. Compared with the high increases of 80 percent in the period immediately prior to the crisis, credit growth has slowed sharply and even turned negative in real terms in a number of economies. Governments in many countries have taken measures to address banking sector stress. The measures for restoring credit growth and thus a high economic growth will be discussed in a part of our work. In the short run, such measures include aiding banks to repair balance sheets and also providing liquidity. In the medium term, measures should promote de-dollarization and the development of local debt markets.展开更多
Recently, adverse effects of Polygoni Multiflori Radix(PMR) and Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata(PMRP) have attracted intensive attention worldwide. These adverse effects most occurred in cases with high dose ...Recently, adverse effects of Polygoni Multiflori Radix(PMR) and Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata(PMRP) have attracted intensive attention worldwide. These adverse effects most occurred in cases with high dose of prolonged medication course. Liver is usually the target organ of these adverse effects. In the present research, we performed in vivo chronic toxicity study and aimed to evaluate relationships between major constituents of water extractions and total anthraquinone of PMR and PMRP and chronic toxicity. SD rats of both sexes were given water extractions as well as total anthraquinone of PMR and PMRP for 12 weeks. We evaluated basic biochemical indexes, conducted microscopic observations of main organs and assessed early indicators of liver and renal fibrosis. Simvastatin, with hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia as its main therapeutic areas, was investigated in our study. Component-toxicity relationships were also discussed. Five male rats died in our study, while all female rats survived, suggesting that some gender differences might be involved. Body weight was significantly changed, and basic biochemical indexes were sporadically occurred during the research. Pathological examinations on liver and kidney showed slight alternations after 12 weeks without dose-dependent relationship. Increase in serum laminin(LN) was observed in almost all male rats, indicating that the risks of liver or kidney fibrosis still existed, especially for males, although no fibrosis was found in the pathological examination of liver and kidney. No major and severe adverse effects were observed after 12 weeks of administration of PMR and PMRP. Regular safety monitoring is still necessary during medication in order to prevent possible risks.展开更多

The authors prescribe a Dirichlet condition on the exterior boundary and a nonhomogeneous nonlinear Robin condition on the boundary of the holes. The main difficulty, when passing to the limit, is that the solution of the problems converges neither strongly in L^2(Ω) nor almost everywhere in Ω. A new convergence result involving nonlinear functions provides suitable weak convergence results which permit passing to the limit without using any extension operator.Consequently, using a corrector result proved in [Chourabi, I. and Donato, P., Homogenization and correctors of a class of elliptic problems in perforated domains, Asymptotic Analysis, 92(1), 2015, 1–43, DOI: 10.3233/ASY-151288], the authors describe the limit problem, presenting a limit nonlinearity which is different for the two cases, that of a Neumann datum with a nonzero average and with a zero average.展开更多
