This paper first discussed issues and uses of literature in L2 contexts and addressed the current empirical inquiry into L2 haiku writing as a method for L2 learning. The study was designed as a qualitative research which investigated the participants' reflection on writing L2 haikus for six weeks in an EFL college writing course. The data obtained was analyzed by using the coding system and showed that writing haiku in the target language was a challenging but valuable task for L2 learning among the EFL students. It is hard to dynamically schedule AGVs with pre designed rule because of the uncertainty and dynamic nature of AGVs dispatching progress, so the AGVs system in this paper is treated as a cooperative learning multiagent system, in which each agent adopts multilevel decision method, which includes two level decisions: the option level and the action level. On the option level, an agent learns a policy to execute a subtask with the best response to the other AGVs’ current options. On the action level, an agent learns an optimal policy of actions for achieving his planned option. The method is applied to a AGVs’ dispatching simulation, and the performance of the AGVs system based on this method is verified.展开更多

Any complex system interacts with its changing environment and its viability depends on its adaptability. The number of arbitrary coefficients in the structure of equivalent equations of complex system changes in the process of learning. In systems with more than six variables, the number of arbitrary coefficients increases first, and then, passing through the maximum, begins to decrease. This phenomenon makes it possible to explain the processes of system growth, complication and death in biological, economical and physical-engineering systems. The author uses the Linguo-combinatorial method of investigation of complex systems, in taking key words for building equivalent equations. This phenomenon is able to increase the adaptability of different systems.展开更多

The...The paper reports on collaborative learning approach to a remedial class in Dynamics. It uses the Kolb model and 4MAT learning system to introduce a learning cycle based on collaborative problem solving exercises. The teaching approach based on learning cycle is described giving examples of different teaching elements applied in particular quadrants of the learning cycle. The attitude of students and their different approaches to, learning are presented and discussed in detail. The results presented cover different aspects of the course delivery and students' perception. The results include students' statistics with respect to their registration and previous history related to the course, their motivatiion, assessment and satisfaction with the approach applied. This initial introduction of cooperative activities into the remedial Dynamics class can be assessed as a positive step in increasing student understanding and performance in the course. The students' positive reception of the non-traditional teaching method and their overall improved performance seem to confirm the advantages of collaborative leaming. In terms of the final grades, the results of the experiment were not as good as expected. However, the application of 4MAT learning system which exposed students to a variety of diverse learning styles improved the quality of education. The positive aspect of the experiment was the attitude of students and their acceptance of the new mode of course delivery. In conclusion collaborative learning could be extended beyond remedial groups to normal student classes.展开更多

Twelve common linguistic errors from 20 Chinese EFL (English as a foreign language) learners' writi...This research is designed to investigate interlanguage fossilization in Chinese college students' written output. Twelve common linguistic errors from 20 Chinese EFL (English as a foreign language) learners' writing assignments are observed. Results show that among 12 typical errors, five types of errors are declining while the rest are increasing, indicating a tendency towards fossilization. Analysis shows that negative/corrective feedback has played a key role in reducing fossilization of some errors, but it does not work in every case. Some errors tend to be fossilized for several reasons. First, language items that do not have a direct form-function relationship are likely to be fossilized. Second, advanced learners create their own language system and neglect the basic rules of grammar. Third, task difficulty takes learners' attention away from form to meaning. Fourth, ingrained thinking patterns have a great impact on how learners organize their thoughts in writing. It is true that many Chinese EFL advanced learners reach a plateau in the process of acquiring English. However, attention, consciousness, and training of self-monitoring ability will help destabilize their interlanguage system.展开更多

Various micellar and interfacia...The interaction of cationic gemini surfactants(alkanediyl-α,ω-bis(alkyl dimethylammonium bromide)) with an antipsychotic drug(chlorpromazine hydrochloride(CPZ)) has been investigated. Various micellar and interfacial parameters have been deliberated by surface tension measurement to report the nature of interactions between drug and novel surfactant mixtures. The behavior of mixed systems, their compositions and activities of components have been analyzed in the light of Rubingh's theory. The results indicate synergism in the binary mixtures.The binding study between CPZ and surfactants has been done by spectroscopic techniques such as UV–visible and fluorescence. The results are discussed in the light of the use of gemini surfactants as promising drug delivery agents for phenothiazine drugs, and hence, improve their bioavailability.展开更多

We assume the plant population is divided into two groups: the first...In this paper, we propose a model describing the interaction between two species: a plant population that gets pollinated by an insect population. We assume the plant population is divided into two groups: the first group in mutualistic relationship with the insect and the second group attracting the insects while deceiving them and not delivering any reward. In addition, we assume that the insect population reduces the number of visits to the plants after several unsuccessful visits. We are interested in the conditions for the coexistence of both species, especially in the appearance of damped or sustained oscillations. We focus the analysis on the parameters that measure the balance among deceit, the benefit that the insect gets from the plant, and the learning by the pollinators. We are especially interested in analyzing the effect of learning by the insect population due to unsuccessfully visiting the deceiving plants.展开更多
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death for women in Tunisia and the prognosis of its metastasis remains a major problem for oncologists despite advances in treatment. In this work we use Bayesian n...Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death for women in Tunisia and the prognosis of its metastasis remains a major problem for oncologists despite advances in treatment. In this work we use Bayesian networks to develop a decision support system that is based on the modeling of relationships between key signaling proteins and clinical and pathological characteristics of breast tumors and patients. Motivated by the lack of prior information on the parameters of the problem, we use the Implicit inference for the structure and parameter learning. A dataset of 84 Tunisian breast cancer patients was used and new prognosis factors were identified. The system predicts a metastasis risk for different patients by computing a score that is the joint probability of the Bayesian network using parameters estimated on the learning database. Based on the results of the developed system we identified that overexpression of ErbB2, ErbB3, bcl2 as well as of oestrogen and progesterone receptors associated with a low level of ErbB4 was the predominant profile associated with high risk of metastasis.展开更多
