Researches concerning the learners' language learning strategies and learning styles have been conducted in different cultural backgrounds. However, comparatively speaking, there are few studies focusing on the relationship between language learning strategies and learning style preferences in English learning among Chinese students. This paper elaborates on the research questions and hypotheses according to the English Learning Questionnaire, which consists primarily of SILL (Strategy Inventory for Language Learning) (Oxford, 1990) and PLSP (Perceptual Learning Style Preference) Survey (Reid, 1987) to identify their English learning strategy uses and learning style preferences. Then, with statistical analysis (by SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions)) of the results of the questionnaire, discussions are made on the correlation between learning strategies, learning style preferences, and their gender differences, followed by pedagogical implications for English teaching and learning in the university settings in China.展开更多

There were 134 Iranian male and female learners participating in this study. A SCIA questionnaire containing 30 items was developed and validated to assess EFL learners' preferences for intervention categories. Moreover, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) was used in the research. Results indicated that whereas in some cases no significant differences were observed, there mostly existed numerous significant differences among language learners with different personality traits and their preferences for SCIA.展开更多

Leamers had the opportunity, rare in foreign-language instruction, to discuss topics from their textbook in authentic native/non-native dyads. The interactions also allowed the seniors to fulfill an identified community needed by socializing in Spanish. Analyses of a post-service survey revealed that learners assessed the experience positively, because they spoke Spanish creatively. Seniors were described as cooperative and fun interlocutors, suggesting that age difference minimally affected the interactions. Direct observation revealed that learners managed to produce L2 Spanish output in connected speech for an extended period of time. Likewise, the seniors enjoyed a moment of socialization and first language use while sharing their views on the topics of discussion with the young visitors. Seniors' active participation likely encouraged learners to cope with sudden switches of topics that required negotiating for meaning and pushing the still limited interlanguages. A new service leaming study proposes to investigate the use of native/non-native dyads in Spanish in fulfilling a dual function: socialization and first language maintenance for the seniors at the center and language learning for the students.展开更多

It's an important task that we are facing to apply the fruits of SLA research to China's English teaching practice. This paper, based on the guidance of second language acquisition (SLA) theory, studies and explores the interaction of language acquisition and classroom instruction and effective classroom teaching methods.展开更多
