Chinese word segmentation with local and global context representation learning

A local and global context representation learning model for Chinese characters is designed and a Chinese word segmentation method based on character representations is proposed in this paper. First, the proposed Chinese character learning model uses the semanties of loeal context and global context to learn the representation of Chinese characters. Then, Chinese word segmentation model is built by a neural network, while the segmentation model is trained with the eharaeter representations as its input features. Finally, experimental results show that Chinese charaeter representations can effectively learn the semantic information. Characters with similar semantics cluster together in the visualize space. Moreover, the proposed Chinese word segmentation model also achieves a pretty good improvement on precision, recall and f-measure.

Learning transfer and its enlightenment on tasked-based language teaching

With the development of cognitive psychology, the cognitive mechanism of learning transfer has recently become the focus in the general field of cognitive psychology. Based on the same theory, tasked based language teaching has become more and more popular. This thesis first analyzes the various factors which affect foreign language learning, then introduces some useful teaching strategies with an aim to help students get an efficient transfer of language knowledge and communicative competence in the context of tasked-based language teaching.

Introduction to the Model Building of English Learning Motivation Drops

By means of interviews with some demotivated students in English learning and questionnaires among 16 teachers of English and 170 non-English majors, this study identifies six latent variables and 18 observable variables that result in demotivation in English teaming. Then a causal model of demotivation in English teaming is constructed. Relationships within the model are examined through analysis of Moment Structures analysis. It is found that learning environment, valence, learning purposes, interest in English, and anxiety had direct effects on demotivation in English learning. Besides, the interactions among the variables also affect demotivation in English learning.

Implications of Reportage Texts in EFL Teaching

In this paper, the author discusses implications of original reportage texts in EFL teaching and learning from the perspectives of socio-linguistics and pragmatic competence. The author also discusses a proper approach for teaching medical postgraduate students, which is centered on students and based on research. This approach for teaching and leaning has been proved effective and students have improved in their socio-linguistic and pragmatic competences. This approach should have implications to EFL teachers who teach students of other specialties.

Recent years have witnessed the growth of the popularity of open online learning platforms in China’s colleges and universities. Business English Teaching model based on MOOC

This study was based on self-established MOOC business English teaching. Firstly, based on the typical characteristics of MOOC, this paper analyzes MOOC leveraging business English courses and reports the concrete practice MOOC business English teaching mode. Quantitative and qualitative data analysis of learner feedback survey showed MOOC based teaching model suits for business English teaching, MOOc teaching students have been highly recognized and the two give full play to both collaborative IT and foreign language teaching deep integration of hybrid learning potential.

Cooperative Learning Makes Extensive Reading More Enjoyable

In the field of L2 （second language） reading, scholars generally agree that ER （extensive reading） improves L2 learners＇ reading speed and comprehension and enriches their L2 vocabulary （Grabe ＆ Stoller, 1997）. This teacher-inquiry type of paper presents a practical suggestion for supplementing ER activity with the element of CL （cooperative learning）. ER, theoretically speaking, focuses on the solitary task of silent reading. The CL technique used in this study was a book-talk activity. Forty-five freshmen from a course of children and young adult literatures were required to read at least 20 English books throughout a semester. CL was added to facilitate students＇ ER in young adult literature. After a semester, short-answer questions were asked regarding students＇ comments on ER as well as CL. Students overall agreed that when ER is supplemented with CL, reading in an L2 seems to be less intimidating.

认知语义学的研究表明绝大多数习语是可以分析的,三种认知机制(隐喻、转喻和常识)在分析特定习语时不同程度在起作用。习语的这种可分析性对英汉习语词典的编纂有着积极的启示。本文提出的认知型英语习语词典基于此理论,建议所收条目按概念排列,这样会大大提高学习者习语的输入和输出能力,同时也是双语习语词典编纂上的创新。

Ask Me Any Type:Type Inference Plugin for Partial Code on the Web and in the Integrated Development Environment

Inferring the fully qualified names(FQNs)of undeclared receiving objects and non-fully-qualified type names(non-FQNs)in partial code is critical for effectively searching,understanding,and reusing partial code.Existing type inference tools,such as COSTER and SNR,rely on a symbolic knowledge base and adopt a dictionary-lookup strategy to map simple names of undeclared receiving objects and non-FQNs to FQNs.However,building a symbolic knowledge base requires parsing compilable code files,which limits the collection of APIs and code contexts,resulting in out-of-vocabulary(OOV)failures.To overcome the limitations of a symbolic knowledge base for FQN inference,we implemented Ask Me Any Type(AMAT),a type of inference plugin embedded in web browsers and integrated development environment(IDE).Unlike the dictionary-lookup strategy,AMAT uses a cloze-style fill-in-the-blank strategy for type inference.By treating code as text,AMAT leverages a fine-tuned large language model(LLM)as a neural knowledge base,thereby preventing the need for code compilation.Experimental results show that AMAT outperforms state-of-the-art tools such as COSTER and SNR.In practice,developers can directly reuse partial code by inferring the FQNs of unresolved type names in real time.

汉语保留宾语被动句的生成机制及其分类的理论意义

传统语法对保留宾语被动句的研究集中在分类和描写方面(吕叔湘1965),但仅仅关注语料而缺乏理论分析不能全面揭示语言现象的内在生成机制。依据语言学理论分析(Wray2002;Croft&Cruse 2006;Chomsky 2008),文章认为,汉语保留宾语被动句的生成是两种操作程序相辅相成使然:1)存储于心理词库中的预制语块;2)依据推导程序生成规范句型。据此把汉语保留宾语被动句区分为习语型和规范型两类既符合不同语言学理论的断言,也与传统语法研究的描述一致,而且也具备一定的语言经验基础。本人认为,汉语句法研究应该兼容并蓄,基于使用频率的用法理论和基于推导程序的生成语法都有助于揭示语言机制的协调运作是如何实现的。

ON TEACHING NON-ENGLISH MAJORS LISTENING AND SPEAKING THROUGH VIDEOS

This is a study of the feasibility and effects of teaching listening and speaking with videos. The research is a part of the English Learning Program sponsored by Academic Affairs Office of Huazhong Agricultural University. The author introduced a pilot study conducted by utilizing videos to teach listening and speaking from September 2002 till now. The statistical result from the experiment suggests that this method has some advantages over teaching listening and speaking with the pre-taped materials in the text.
