Methods: IGF-1 mRNA levels in tissues of breast cancer, adjacent breast cancer in 70 cases breast cancer patients were analyzed by RT-PCR with the normal breast tissues of paired breast as the control. Results: The level of IGF-1 mRNA expression in breast cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in the paired adjacent to breast cancer tissues, normal mammary gland tissues. The ration of IGF-1/β-actin were 0.679 ± 0.075, 0.463 ± 0.085, 0.305 ± 0.031, respectively. There was significant difference between different groups (P < 0.005). Expression of IGF-1 was associated with lymph node metastasis, pathological staging and estrogen receptor status of breast cancer and no significant relationship with tumor pathological grouping (P > 0.005). Conclusion: The high-level expression of IGF-1 in breast cancer tissues is correlated with carcinogenesis, development and metastasis of breast cancer.展开更多
Objective.To identify a subset of breast cancer patients in whom metastatic disease is confined on-ly to the sentinel lymph node(SLN).Methods.Sentinel lymph node biopsy is performed with the injecetion of Tc99m-SC,and...Objective.To identify a subset of breast cancer patients in whom metastatic disease is confined on-ly to the sentinel lymph node(SLN).Methods.Sentinel lymph node biopsy is performed with the injecetion of Tc99m-SC,and a gamma probe.Sentinel node biopsy was compared with standard axillary dissection for its ability to reflect the fi-nal pathological status of the axillary nodes.The factors associated with non-SLN metastases were as-sessed in the univariate and multivariate analysis.Result.We successfully identified91out of95patients for SLN(95.8%).The accuracy of sentinel lymph node to predict the axillary lymph node status was93.4%.Clinical tumor size and tumor grade were proved to be the independent predictive factors for non-SLN metastases by logistic regression model.Conclusion.In most cases,the gamma probe guided method is technically feasible for detecting sentinel nodes,accurately predicting the axillary lymph node status.A subset of the patients identified who have a low risk of non-SLN metastases may not require axillary lymph node dissection.展开更多

Methods: Total 36 patients suspected of breast neoplasm were enrolled into the research. The result was compared with the pathology result. The rate of missed diagnosis, the rate of mi.sdiagnosis. the sensitivity and specificity were calculated and analyzed. Results:Compared with the pathology results, the misdiagnosis rate. the rate of missed diagnosis. the sensitivity and specificity of FDG-PET for breast cancer were 0% , 36. 36%. 63. 63% and 100%, respectively. To those who had a neoplasm no more than 2 cm in diameter, the rate of missed diagnosis was as high as 41. 67%. To 33 breast cancer patients, the misdiagnosis rate, the rate of missed diagnosis, the sensitivity and specificity for lymph node metastasis were 18. 75%, 41. 18%, 58. 82% and 81. 25%, respectively. Conclusion:FDG-PET has a perfect specificity and a considerable sensitivity to the primary breast neoplasm and similar to the lymph node metastasis diagnosis. It is an ideal choice for those patients with suspected breast cancer but reluctantly to receive a vulnerarious examination.展开更多
In a retrospective study. liquid nitrogen preserved specimens from 50 women with primary breast cancer, who underwent surgery at the Beijing Institute for Cancer Research between June. 1986 and September, 1988, were i...In a retrospective study. liquid nitrogen preserved specimens from 50 women with primary breast cancer, who underwent surgery at the Beijing Institute for Cancer Research between June. 1986 and September, 1988, were investigated. All patients under this study were staged in TNM II or later, involved with axillary lymph node metastasis. and treated with systemic postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. The median length of follow-up was 69 months. The expression of P-glycoprotein was investigated by means of immunohistochemistry, using a monoclonal antibody C219 specifically against P-glycoprotein and avidin -biotin peroxidase method. Posrtive staining for P-glycoprotein was found in 23(16%) of the 50 patients. The P-glycoprotein expression negative group fared better than the group that was P-glycoprotein posrtive in overall survival curves (p= 0. 0008 , by the generalized Wilcoxon test). The prognostic effect of P-glycoprotein expression remained statistically significant (p=0. 0007) after adjustment by multivariate analysis(Cox’s model)for other prognostic factors. It is demonstrated that P-glycoprotein expression is a significant and independent Predictor of postoperative survival in breast cancer patients. The results of the present study suggest that P-glycoprotein expression might also influence the bioiogical behavior of breast cancers.展开更多
