These actions may be represented by sheltering, evacuation, distribution of stable iodine tablets and/or relocation. This study represents a comprehensive probabilistic study to investigate the role of the adoption of the countermeasures in case of a hypothetical accident of type LOCA for nuclear power plant of PWR (1000 Mw). The effective doses in different organs, short and long health effects, and the associated risks are calculated with and without countermeasures. In addition, the overall costs of the accident and the costs of countermeasures are estimated which represent our first trials to know how much the proposed accident cost. The results showed that, the area around the site requires early and late countermeasures action after the accident especially in the downwind sectors. For late countermeasures, the duration time of relocation ranged from about two to 10 years. The adoption of the countermeasures increases the costs of emergency plan by 40% but reduces the risk associated the accident.展开更多

This paper reviews the theoretical and empirical literature on five internal mechanisms of corporate governance, namely, dividend payouts, financial leverage, institutional shareholding, board duality, and board size. These mechanisms have received the greatest deal of attention in the literature. The paper makes an original contribution to the literature as it is the first of its type, to the best of our knowledge, to provide a comprehensive idea on these five internal mechanisms of corporate governance. This study will help in investigating the relationship between internal corporate governance mechanisms and firm performance with the main aim of extending the existing literature on firm performance by empirically investigating the contribution of these mechanisms in the smooth conduct of business operations. The empirical evidence amassed favors a smaller board size, non-existence of duality and favorable dividend mechanisms as effective internal governance mechanisms affecting firm performance. At the same time, there is no conclusive evidence on the relationship between leverage and institutional ownership as internal governance mechanisms influencing agency cost and firm performance.展开更多

The paper attempts to approach the story with the view of existentialism, which flourished at the time when Hemingway began to create this novella. In light of the existentialist views on the relations between being-in-itself and being-for-itself, and existence and essence, the author tends to analyze the interactions of the characters of the story with themselves through the choices they made, which is to be of significance for those who strive to understand Hemingway's work and who try to comprehend human beings and themselves.展开更多

In Deleuze's two books on cinema, the discussion of images demonstrates the entangled juxtaposition of the three levels: brain-thought, cinema-screen, and world-images that compose the cinematic consciousness. Through the interacted movement-images and time-images, the film unfolds the storyline within the aesthetic pleasure of poetic sentiment that gradually leads the audience to learn that a wandering boy, Hsiao-Hsiang, after the death of his father, has had several adventurous encounters that gradually expose the secrecy of his traumatic family: His birth mother has no decent job and his step-father has killed his own brother. This broken family has been haunted by the shared guilt and the undead memory as Derrida famously claims that hauntology precedes ontology. As the past coexists with the present, Deleuze analyzes the concept of I, with a central fracture in its pure form of the past demonstrating an ontological enigma that remains forever a secret. When the director uses the four portraits to indicate the four important events of this wandering boy, he deliberately leaves empty the fourth portrait, the self-portrait of the boy; it remains as an incomplete piece which symbolizes an enigma of his own life. It shows certain constitutive unnamable forces acting within the boy that seduces him forever to painfully misrecognize himself.展开更多

Attracting theater practitioners and audiences are the main targets. Successful narrator communication is one of the biggest challenges even when theatres facilitate communication with scenery, lighting and costumes etc., as the performance depends primarily on the text and narrator for successful expression. This study views the most important techniques to create a well-made story at both text and performance levels. The researcher begins differentiating storytelling, imitation and characterization, as this understanding assists the objective of this study, which is to determine specific techniques to achieve successful communication with an audience. This research highlights elements which distort story structure; including immersion in narrative without incident description, identified as the most dangerous element due to description being essential to create suspense.1 Text condensation is also crucial. A good writer uses his pen more for deletion than addition. Repeated reading and deletion to condense the story to its optimal is vital. Also included are techniques for good text rhythm in addition to production of captivating beginnings. Further techniques to raise audience attention in text and event building, as well as to determine conflict and types, narrator language use and the structure of the diagnostic viewer, finally, mastering story ending techniques are provided. At performance level, this research provides techniques in creativity prologue, good story rhythm, body language and eye contact together with prop (object) use; all of which enable the narrator to capture and retain audience attention throughout. This research concludes with recommendations on how to achieve a good storytelling performance.展开更多

For that, the theoretical reference of the research involves the analysis of the parameters according to the aspects that involve the use interactions of packaging in agreement with the definition and scientific concepts of ergonomics, allied to the development of product projects, discussing forms, handling, load transportation and the support of the product. Therefore, improperly handling of the packaging may cause damages to the products and even potential accidents. Coding and decoding are significant to facilitate the use recognition within the individual's repertoire. The packaging, within the macro-ergonomics universe, may be the object of ergonomics, whose contribution to solve problems is related to labor activities, by dealing with packaging, transportation and load resulting from the man-object interaction. The incorrect identification of information may lead to problems of interpretation and misuse, from the handling to the disposal of packaging. For this reason, this research suggests the adjustment of the man-object interface which may lead users to make mistakes regarding use and important choices, through adequate handling actions.展开更多

Nevertheless, it is essential that students will be exposed to the treasures of their culture. The author proposes that we introduce the classics through their literary adaptations into children's book, comics, and so on. Adaptation as well as translation involves interpretation. Therefore, through the adaptation, we show the students that classic texts are complicated and potent of many meanings. As an introduction to the works of S. Y. Agnon, the author chose his story "From a Foe to a Friend" (1992). "From a Foe to a Friend" by S. Y. Agnon, is considered to be simple, na'fve story, the plot is linear and accumulative, almost like a folktale or a children's story. And indeed, this story was published (2008) as a children's book with illustrations, and also as a comic book (2012). The author will show how we can use these books, along with the folktale of"The Three Little Pigs" (1890), which the story's plot is based on, to prepare students to the challenge of Agnon's literary work. The conceptual framework of this paper is based on Polysystem Theory (Even-Zohar, 1990), Translation Theory (Toury, 1995), and adaptation as an interpretation (Shenberg, 1997, 1998).展开更多

The conditions of the CNOP-type precursors are highly likely to evolve into El Nino events in the Zebiak-Cane model. By exploring the dynamic behaviors of these nonlinear El Nino events caused by the CNOP-type precursors, we find that they, as expected, tend to phase-lock to the annual cycles in the Zebiak-Cane model with the SSTA peak at the end of a calendar year. However, E1 Nino events with CNOPs as initial anomalies in the linearized Zebiak-Cane model are inclined to phase-lock earlier than nonlinear E1 Nino events despite the existence of annual cycles in the model. It is clear that nonlinearities play an important role in El Nino's phase-locking. In particular, nonlinear temperature advection increases anomalous zonal SST differences and anomalous westerlies, which weakens anomalous upwelling and acts on the increasing anomalous vertical temperature difference and, as a result, enhances E1 Nino and then delays the peak SSTA. Finally, we demonstrate that nonlinear temperature advection, together with the effect of the annual cycle, causes El Nino events to peak at the end of the calendar year.展开更多

By applying the LLP-like transformation and variational approach, the numerical results are obtained as functions of the well width and asymmetric-degree of well. The exciton-optical phonons interaction-energy has a minimum value with the increase of the well width. It is demonstrated that the LO-phonon energy-contribution increases while the IO-phonon contribution decreases as the well width increases gradually. The energy-contribution of LO-phonon in symmetric and asymmetric square quantum well does not have too much difference, but the IO-phonon contribution varies apparently. The exciton binding-energy monotonically decreases with the increase of the well width and is proportional to the left-barrier height.展开更多

New antibiotics against bacteria are rarely discovered in recent years, which necessitates the exploration of new antibacterial agents. Engineered nanomatetials {ENMs) have been extensively studied for antibacterial use because of their long lasting killing effects in wide spectra of bacteria. Graphene oxide (GO) is one of the most widely studied ENMs and exhibit strong bactericidal effects. The physicochemical properties of GO play important roles in bacterial killing by triggering a cascade of toxic events. Many studies have explored the signaling pathways of GO in bacteria. Although molecular initiating events (MIEs) of GO in bacteria dominate its killing efficiency as well as toxicity mechanisms, they have been rarely reviewed. In this report, we discussed the structure-activity relationships (SARs) involved in GOinduced bacterial killing and the MIEs including redox reaction with biomolecules, mechanical destruction of membranes and catalysis of extracellular metabolites. Furthermore, we summarized the clinical or commercial applications of GO-based antibacterial products and discussed their biosafety in mammal. Finally, we reviewed the remaining challenges in GO for antibacterial applications, which may offer new insights for the development of nano antibacterial studies.展开更多

Results show that the activity of SPW is the strongest in winter, when the SPW propagates along the polar waveguide into the stratosphere and along the low-latitude waveguide to the subtropical tropopause. The analysis of three dimensional SPW structure indicates that the main sources of SPW activity are located over the Eurasian continent and the North Pacific north of 45°N. On the one hand, the two waveguides of the SPW reflect the influence of mean flow on the propagation of the SPW. On the other hand, the upward propagating SPW can interact with the stratospheric mean flow, leading to deceleration of the zonal mean westerly. Furthermore, the SPW exhibits clear responses to ENSO events. During E1 Nifio winters, the SPW in the strat- osphere tends to propagate more upward and poleward. Its interactions with mean flow can induce a dipole pattern in zonal mean zonal winds, with accelerated westerly winds at low-middle latitudes and decelerated westerly winds at high latitudes. The ECHAM5/MPI-OM model reproduces the climatology of the SPW well. Although the simulated SPW is slightly weaker than the observations in the stratosphere, the model's performance has significant improvements compared with other GCMs used in previous studies. However, there are still some problems in the responses of the SPW to ENSO in the model. Although the model reproduces the responses of both the amplitude and the SPW-mean flow interactions to ENSO well in the troposphere, the stratospheric responses are quite weak. Therefore, further studies are needed to improve the simulation of the stratospheric atmospheric circulation and related dynamical processes.展开更多

Finally, we demonstrate that nonlinear temperature advection, together with the effect of the annual cycle, causes El Nino events to peak at the end of the calendar year.

文摘The interaction between exciton and confined longitudinal optical (LO) phonons, interface optical (IO) phonons in an asymmetric Ga1-xAlxAsIGaAslGao.TAlo.3As square quantum well is investigated. The exciton binding-energy monotonically decreases with the increase of the well width and is proportional to the left-barrier height.

文摘Bacterial infections may lead to diverse acute or chronic diseases (e.g., inflammation, sepsis and cancer). Finally, we reviewed the remaining challenges in GO for antibacterial applications, which may offer new insights for the development of nano antibacterial studies.

文摘Based on the ERA-40 reanalysis data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts and the output of ECHAM5/MPI-OM, this study investigated the interactions between the quasi-stationary planetary wave (SPW) and mean flow, and their responses to E1 Nifio-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events in the northern hemispheric stratosphere. Therefore, further studies are needed to improve the simulation of the stratospheric atmospheric circulation and related dynamical processes.

文摘The initial collision between Indian and Asian continents marked the starting point for transformation of land-sea thermal contrast, uplift of the Tibet-Himalaya orogen, and climate change in Asia.In this paper,we review the published literatures from the past 30 years in order to draw consensus on the processes of initial collision and suturing that took place between the Indian and Asian plates.Following a comparison of the different methods that have been used to constrain the initial timing of collision,we propose that the tectono-sedimentary response in the peripheral foreland basin provides the most sensitive index of this event, and that paleomagnetism presents independent evidence as an alternative, reliable, and quantitative research method. In contrast to previous studies that have suggested collision between India and Asia started in Pakistan between ca.55 Ma and50 Ma and progressively closed eastwards, more recent researches have indicated that this major event first occurred in the center of the Yarlung Tsangpo suture zone(YTSZ) between ca.65 Ma and 63 Ma and then spreading both eastwards and westwards. While continental collision is a complicated process, including the processes of deformation, sedimentation, metamorphism, and magmatism, different researchers have tended to define the nature of this event based on their own understanding,an intuitive bias that has meant that its initial timing has remained controversial for decades. Here,we recommend the use of reconstructions of each geological event within the orogenic evolution sequence as this will allow interpretation of collision timing on the basis of multidisciplinary methods.
