To improve traffic performance when on-ramp vehicles merge into the mainstream,a collaborative merging control strategy is proposed to determine the merging sequence and trajectory control of vehicles.Merging trajecto...To improve traffic performance when on-ramp vehicles merge into the mainstream,a collaborative merging control strategy is proposed to determine the merging sequence and trajectory control of vehicles.Merging trajectory planning takes the minimization of vehicle acceleration as the optimization objective.Either the variational method or the quadratic programming method is utilized to determine arrival time,optimal time and control variables for each vehicle.As a supplement,the adaptive cruise control(ACC)model is used to calculate each control variable in each time interval on special occasions.Simulation results show that the cooperative merging control strategy outperforms the optimal control strategy.The root mean square(RMS)of acceleration and the root mean square error(RMSE)of time headway are significantly decreased,with the reductions up to 90.1%and 25.2%,respectively.Under the cooperative control strategy,the difference between the average speed and desired speed consistently approaches zero.In addition,few or no collisions occur.To conclude,the proposed strategy favours the improvements in passenger comfort,traffic efficiency,traffic stability and safety around highway on-ramps.展开更多

SQP/IIPM algorithm was applied to determining the optimum parameters for the PI/PID control systems.To assess the performance of the proposed method,a Matlab simulation of PID controller tuning was conducted to compare the proposed SQP/IIPM algorithm with the gain and phase margin(GPM) method and Ziegler-Nichols(ZN) method.The results reveal that,for both step and impulse response tests,the PI/PID controller using SQP/IIPM optimization algorithm consistently reduce rise time,settling-time and remarkably lower overshoot compared to GPM and ZN methods,and the proposed method improves the robustness and effectiveness of numerical optimization of PID control systems.展开更多

This formulation leads to an extremely simple and fast algorithm, called least squares weighted twin support vector machine with local information(LSWLTSVM), for generating binary classifiers based on two non-parallel hyperplanes. Two modified primal problems of WLTSVM are attempted to solve, instead of two dual problems usually solved. The solution of the two modified problems reduces to solving just two systems of linear equations as opposed to solving two quadratic programming problems along with two systems of linear equations in WLTSVM. Moreover, two extra modifications were proposed in LSWLTSVM to improve the generalization capability. One is that a hot kernel function, not the simple-minded definition in WLTSVM, is used to define the weight matrix of adjacency graph, which ensures that the underlying similarity information between any pair of data points in the same class can be fully reflected. The other is that the weight for each point in the contrary class is considered in constructing equality constraints, which makes LSWLTSVM less sensitive to noise points than WLTSVM. Experimental results indicate that LSWLTSVM has comparable classification accuracy to that of WLTSVM but with remarkably less computational time.展开更多
A new hybrid optimization algorithm was presented by integrating the gravitational search algorithm (GSA) with the sequential quadratic programming (SQP), namely GSA-SQP, for solving global optimization problems a...A new hybrid optimization algorithm was presented by integrating the gravitational search algorithm (GSA) with the sequential quadratic programming (SQP), namely GSA-SQP, for solving global optimization problems and minimization of factor of safety in slope stability analysis. The new algorithm combines the global exploration ability of the GSA to converge rapidly to a near optimum solution. In addition, it uses the accurate local exploitation ability of the SQP to accelerate the search process and find an accurate solution. A set of five well-known benchmark optimization problems was used to validate the performance of the GSA-SQP as a global optimization algorithm and facilitate comparison with the classical GSA. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed method for slope stability analysis was investigated using three ease studies of slope stability problems from the literature. The factor of safety of earth slopes was evaluated using the Morgenstern-Price method. The numerical experiments demonstrate that the hybrid algorithm converges faster to a significantly more accurate final solution for a variety of benchmark test functions and slope stability problems.展开更多

However, IGA with deterministic mutation factor suffers from the problem of premature convergence. In this study, a modified self-adaptive immune genetic algorithm (MSIGA) with two memory bases, in which immune concepts are applied to determine the mutation parameters, is proposed to improve the searching ability of the algorithm and maintain population diversity. Performance comparisons with other well-known population-based iterative algorithms show that the proposed method converges quickly to the global optimum and overcomes premature problem. This algorithm is applied to optimize a feed forward neural network to measure the content of products in the combustion side reaction of p-xylene oxidation, and satisfactory results are obtained.展开更多

For those working in agricultural supply chains, the challenges remain significant, given the diverse direct and indirect e...The issue of carbon emissions has been on the corporate sustainability agenda for some years. For those working in agricultural supply chains, the challenges remain significant, given the diverse direct and indirect emissions occurring throughout the value chain. This study determines the carbon footprint of the supply chain of Costa Rican coffee exported to Europe, using best practice methodology to calculate greenhouse gas emissions. Overall, it was found that the total carbon footprint across the entire supply chain is 4.82 kg CO2e kgx green coffee. The carbon footprint of the processes in Costa Rica to produce l km of green coffee is 1.77 kg CO2e. The processes within Europe generate 3.05 kg CO2e kg-1 green coffee. This carbon footprint is considered as "very high intensity". This paper also identifies the sources of the most intense emission and discusses mitigation possibilities on which efforts must be focused.展开更多

In this paper,a stepwise coupled-mode model with the use of the direct global matrix approach is proposed.This method is capable of handling two-dimensional problems with either a point source in cylindrical geometry ...In this paper,a stepwise coupled-mode model with the use of the direct global matrix approach is proposed.This method is capable of handling two-dimensional problems with either a point source in cylindrical geometry or a line source in plane geometry.With the use of the direct global matrix approach,this method is numerically stable.In addition,by introducing appropriately normalized range solutions,this model is free from the numerical overflow problem.Furthermore,we put forward source conditions appropriate for the line-source problem in plane geometry.As a result,this method is capable of addressing the scenario with a line source on top of a sloping bottom.Closed-form expressions for coupling matrices are derived and applied in this paper for handling problems with pressure-release boundaries and a homogeneous water column.The numerical simulations indicate that the proposed model is accurate,efficient,and numerically stable.Consequently,this model can serve as a benchmark model in range-dependent propagation modeling.Although this method is verified by an ideal wedge problem in this paper,the formulation applies to realistic problems as well.展开更多

Traditional line-based pose estimation methods rely on the assumption that t...In this paper, new solutions for the problem of pose estimation from correspondences between 3D model lines and 2D image lines are proposed. Traditional line-based pose estimation methods rely on the assumption that the noises(perpendicular to the line) for the two endpoints are statistically independent. However, these two noises are in fact negatively correlated when the image line segment is fitted using the least-squares technique. Therefore, we design a new error function expressed by the average integral of the distance between line segments. Three least-squares techniques that optimize both the rotation and translation simultaneously are proposed in which the new error function is exploited. In addition, Lie group formalism is utilized to describe the pose parameters, and then, the optimization problem can be solved by means of a simple iterative least squares method. To enhance the robustness to outliers existing in the match data, an M-estimation method is developed to convert the pose optimization problem into an iterative reweighted least squares problem. The proposed methods are validated through experiments using both synthetic and real-world data. The experimental results show that the proposed methods yield a clearly higher precision than the traditional methods.展开更多

Finally, the inverse iteration method is discussed to deal with the RSTLS problem. 文摘We propose a smoothing trust region filter algorithm for nonsmooth nonconvex least squares problems. We present convergence theorems of the proposed algorithm to a Clarke stationary point or a global minimizer of the objective function under certain conditions. Preliminary numerical experiments show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm for finding zeros of a system of polynomial equations with high degrees on the sphere and solving differential variational inequalities.
