With the booming development of terrestrial network, scaling terrestrial network over satellite network to build Integrated Terrestrial-Satellite Network(ITSN) and meanwhile to provide the global Internet access, has ...With the booming development of terrestrial network, scaling terrestrial network over satellite network to build Integrated Terrestrial-Satellite Network(ITSN) and meanwhile to provide the global Internet access, has become ever more attractive. Naturally, the widely and successfully used terrestrial routing protocols are the promising protocols to integrate the terrestrial and satellite networks. However, the terrestrial routing protocols, which rely on propagating routing messages to discover New Network Topology(NNT) in the terrestrial network with rare topology changes, will suffer from overly numerous routing messages in satellite network whose topology frequently changes as satellites move. In this paper, a Topology Discovery Sub-layer for ITSN Routing Schemes(TDS-IRS) is firstly proposed to avoid the propagation of numerous routing messages by taking advantage of the movement predictability of satellite and the requirements of routing schemes to discover NNT in advance of topology change. Secondly, a Weighted Perfect Matching based Topology Discovery(WPM-TD) model is designed to conduct the NNT discovery on the ground. Thirdly, this paper builds a testbed with real network devices and meanwhile interconnect that testbed with real Internet, to validate that RS-TDS can discover NNT immediately with the less on-board overhead compared with optimized routing schemes. Finally, different network scenarios are applied to validate the WPM-TD, i.e., the core module of TDS-IRS. Extensive experiments show WPM-TD can work efficiently, avoiding the invalid NNT discovery and decreasing 20% ~ 57% of potential topology changes, which can also improve up to 47% ~ 105% of network throughput.展开更多

There is g...Objective To clarify the association between rs1050450 polymorphism in Glutathione peroxidase-1 (GPx-1) and the risk of cardi-ovascular diseases (CVD) by performing a meta-analysis of published studies. There is growing evidence from different study types for an association of the GPx-1 polymorphism and cardiovascular outcomes, but observational studies have so far shown inconsistent results. Me-thods Relevant publications were searched through PubMed, Embase database databases and the Cochrane Library. We used odds ratios (ORs) with 95%confidence intervals (CIs) to assess the strength of association under the best genetic model. Both Q statistic and the I2 were used to check heterogeneity. Meta-regression analysis was performed to explore heterogeneity source. Sensitivity analysis, cumulative me-ta-analysis analysis and publication bias were used to test the reliability of the results. Results Data were available from two cohort studies and 8 case-control studies involving 1,430 cases and 3,767 controls. The pooled ORs for overall CVD risk was 1.36 with 95%CI:1.08-1.70 under a co-dominant model, and that for East Asian subgroup was 1.84 (95%CI:1.39-2.43). Substantial heterogeneity for ORs were de-tected among all the included studies, mainly caused by ethnic differences between East Asian and non-East Asian populations. Although Egger's regression test suggested no statistical significant publication bias, Begg's funnel plot exhibited obvious asymmetry. The statistical significance disappeared after adjusting for potential publication bias in the overall studies. However, no substantial publication bias was found in the East Asian subgroup. Conclusions GPx-1 gene Pro198Leu and Pro197Leu polymorphisms considerably increased the risk of CVD in the East Asian population. Large-scale investigations are needed to confirm the results in different ethnicities.展开更多

A literature review associated with memberships ...This paper discusses the nature of the Australian bus and coach representative environment and the role of the state-based voluntary professional association (SBVPA). A literature review associated with memberships to which businesses subscribe for representation and linking social capital is presented, as well as a discussion on agency theory that possibly explains the member/association dynamic. The results of an Australia-wide survey of bus operators, which measures the extent of linking social capital between themselves and their SBVPA, are revealed. It is found that one state with consistently higher results may possess a competitive advantage in the form of a partnership agreement with the State Government Authority--an agreement that rests on co-operation and facilitates social capital. This evidence could contribute to the global narrative on how non-profit associations can be a mechanism for institutionalising social capital, sustain a firm's operation and encourage governments to increase their use of non-profit associations, as agents of government, to achieve public policy outcomes.展开更多
Participatory irrigation management (PIM) is theoretically assumed to reduce poverty significantly, but its practical experience and challenges are yet researched and documented in Tanzania. The study aimed at asses...Participatory irrigation management (PIM) is theoretically assumed to reduce poverty significantly, but its practical experience and challenges are yet researched and documented in Tanzania. The study aimed at assessing challenges observed during implementation of PIM approach for food security in semi-arid areas of Tanzania. Data were collected through questionnaire, participatory rapid appraisal (PRA) tools, key informants interview, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), observation and literature review. Data collected from questionnaire were analyzed using SPSS. Data fi'om other methods were analyzed using content analysis. The study revealed that PIM approach has contribution in improving food security at household level due to involvement of communities in water management activities and decision making, which enhanced availability of irrigation water and increased crop production. However, there were challenges observed during implementation of the approach, including the minimum participation of beneficiaries in decision making during planning and designing stages, which means that inadequate devolution of power among scheme owners, inadequate and lack of transparency on income expenditure in water utilization associations (WUAs), water conflict among WUAs members, conflict between farmers and livestock keepers and conflict between WUAs and village government leaders regarding training opportunities and status. The rules and regulation of WUAs were not legally recognized by the national courts and few farmers who planted trees around water sources. However, it was realized that some of the mentioned challenges were rectified by farmers themselves and facilitated by government officials. The study recommends that the identified challenges need to be rectified for farmers to realize more on the importance of PIM approach as it was realized in other Asian countries.展开更多

However, such nitrite/nitrate surface species do not form on clean Pt(110) and Ag-Pt alloy surfaces upon NO exposure at room temperature. The views on t...This year highlights the centenary of the outbreak of World War I and this paper aims at comparing and contrasting multicultural views on the First World War in Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway (1925). The views on the First War are portrayed by a plurality of voices, most of which are women's, and they allow readers to think of the war experience in a more subjective but also more plural way. In this novel, voices from both sides of the First War resonate, i.e., the hegemonic side of the war--the Allies--is compared and contrasted to the subjectivity of the voices of the "others"--the Axis, although they do not necessarily work in harmony. Such innovation in point of view has, in great part, contributed to converging story and history, allowing this literary work to partake in the production of historical knowledge and cultural memory of the War.展开更多

The conditions of poverty and violence in Colombia have increased the displacement of people of African descent. The research group concerned with the health of these communities has performed research to find the ass...The conditions of poverty and violence in Colombia have increased the displacement of people of African descent. The research group concerned with the health of these communities has performed research to find the association of alterations in the hemoglobin molecule with the presence of iron deficiency anemia. This research was performed with the support of the epidemiological public health laboratory. The objective of the study is the association of sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait, and the presence of hemoglobin C and its trait, with iron deficiency anemia in Afro-Colombians between 18 and 50 years of age, by investigation of hemograms, peripheral blood study, serum ferritin, soluble receptor for transferrin (sTfR) and index of sTfR, and hemoglobin electrophoresis. This research is a descriptive, quantitative, transverse, structured, non-experimental and correlational study, with a total of 56 samples (10 men, 46 women). The results showed that ferritin in men had normal values, compared to 32% (15/46) of women who had low levels of ferritin. Men's sTfR levels were normal, while in women 2% (1/46) had iron deficiency in stage I, 41% (19/46) iron deficiency in stage If, and 9% (4/46) possibly without anemia iron deficiency. In hemoglobin electrophoresis, 84% (46/56) of the population presents hemoglobin A, 4% (2/56) increased hemoglobin A2 and fetal hemoglobin related to a possible thalassemia trait, 11% (6/56) had hemoglobin AS related to sickle cell trait, and 2% (1/56) show hemoglobin AC, related to hemoglobin AC trait. This project supports investigative and social projects, and also contributes to the improvement of the quality of life and dissemination of good health practices in these communities.展开更多
It is well established that different sites within a protein evolve at different rates according to their role within the protein; identification of these correlated mutations can aid in tasks such as ab initio protei...It is well established that different sites within a protein evolve at different rates according to their role within the protein; identification of these correlated mutations can aid in tasks such as ab initio protein structure, structure function analysis or sequence alignment. Mutual Information is a standard measure for coevolution between two sites but its application is limited by signal to noise ratio. In this work we report a preliminary study to investigate whether larger sequence sets could circumvent this problem by calculating mutual information arrays for two sets of drug naive sequences from the HIV gpl20 protein for the B and C subtypes. Our results suggest that while the larger sequences sets can improve the signal to noise ratio, the gain is offset by the high mutation rate of the HIV virus which makes it more difficult to achieve consistent alignments. Nevertheless, we were able to predict a number of coevolving sites that were supported by previous experimental studies as well as a region close to the C terminal of the protein that was highly variable in the C subtype but highly conserved in the B subtype.展开更多

This indicates very low agricultural capacities. Otherwise agricultural activities are concentrated in a narrow fringe of the Northern part of the country where the dominant climate is semi-arid with very irregular rainfalls. A majority of farms produces its main part of income from cereal crops--livestock association system. However, the diversity of the climate and the physical environment, on one hand, and the agricultural policies on the other hand, induce major transformations in this system. Transformations are also the result of a significant demographic growth in rural area. In this context, significant issues appear in term of resource's uses and systems' sustainability. To shed light in the actual situation, this study, based on a survey of 90 owners, shows that: the intensification can constitute a threat on the pastoral resources; the weakness of the farms encourages the generalization of practices characterised by a weak feed autonomy and a bad management of stock fodders; the animal interspecific integration and partial intensification are positive if they follow models which ensure autonomy, performance and optimal pastoral resource management.展开更多
This study investigated the genetic association of three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; rs 10483727, rs33912345, and rs146737847) at the SIX1-SIX6 locus with primar-y open angle glaucoma (POAG) in the Chin...This study investigated the genetic association of three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; rs 10483727, rs33912345, and rs146737847) at the SIX1-SIX6 locus with primar-y open angle glaucoma (POAG) in the Chinese population. A total of 866 subjects with POAG (685 high-tension glaucoma (HTG) and 181 normal-tension glaucoma (NTG)) and 266 control individu- als were included. Significant genetic association was identified for rs 10483727 in HTG (P=0.02; odds ratio (OR)=l.31), NTG (P=7.41x10-6; OR=2.71), and POAG (i.e., HTG and NTG combined; P=0.001; OR=1.44). rs33912345 was also significantly associated with HTG (P=0.008; OR=1.36), NTG (P=2.72x10-6; OR=2.27), and POAG (P=3.84x10-4; OR=1.49). The rare SIX6 mutation, rs146737847, was not found in the subjects enrolled in this study. Stratification by patient age identified that both rs10483727 and rs33912345 were significantly associated with NTG in patients aged above 40 years (P=2.08x10-5; OR=2.28), whereas in patients aged between 20-40 years, rs33912345 was significantly associated with NTG (P=0.017; OR=2.06). In HTG, the genetic associations for both rs10483727 and rs33912345 were significant in patients aged between 20-40 years (P=0.006; OR= 1.56) but not in those aged above 40 years (P=0.118, 0R=1.21 and P=0.042, OR= 1.29, respec- tively). This study replicated the association of POAG with two SNPs at the SIX1-SIX6 locus and demonstrated that SNPs, rs10483727 and rs33912345, are significantly associated with POAG, especially with NTG in patients aged above 40 years.展开更多

In this work we report a preliminary study to investigate whether larger sequence sets could circumvent this problem by calculating mutual information arrays for two sets of drug naive sequences from the HIV gpl20 protein for the B and C subtypes. Our results suggest that while the larger sequences sets can improve the signal to noise ratio, the gain is offset by the high mutation rate of the HIV virus which makes it more difficult to achieve consistent alignments. Nevertheless, we were able to predict a number of coevolving sites that were supported by previous experimental studies as well as a region close to the C terminal of the protein that was highly variable in the C subtype but highly conserved in the B subtype.
文摘Algeria registers only 0.25 ha of agricultural surface per capita. This indicates very low agricultural capacities. Otherwise agricultural activities are concentrated in a narrow fringe of the Northern part of the country where the dominant climate is semi-arid with very irregular rainfalls. A majority of farms produces its main part of income from cereal crops--livestock association system. However, the diversity of the climate and the physical environment, on one hand, and the agricultural policies on the other hand, induce major transformations in this system. Transformations are also the result of a significant demographic growth in rural area. In this context, significant issues appear in term of resource's uses and systems' sustainability. To shed light in the actual situation, this study, based on a survey of 90 owners, shows that: the intensification can constitute a threat on the pastoral resources; the weakness of the farms encourages the generalization of practices characterised by a weak feed autonomy and a bad management of stock fodders; the animal interspecific integration and partial intensification are positive if they follow models which ensure autonomy, performance and optimal pastoral resource management.

文摘This study investigated the genetic association of three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; rs 10483727, rs33912345, and rs146737847) at the SIX1-SIX6 locus with primar-y open angle glaucoma (POAG) in the Chinese population. A total of 866 subjects with POAG (685 high-tension glaucoma (HTG) and 181 normal-tension glaucoma (NTG)) and 266 control individu- als were included. Significant genetic association was identified for rs 10483727 in HTG (P=0.02; odds ratio (OR)=l.31), NTG (P=7.41x10-6; OR=2.71), and POAG (i.e., HTG and NTG combined; P=0.001; OR=1.44). rs33912345 was also significantly associated with HTG (P=0.008; OR=1.36), NTG (P=2.72x10-6; OR=2.27), and POAG (P=3.84x10-4; OR=1.49). The rare SIX6 mutation, rs146737847, was not found in the subjects enrolled in this study. Stratification by patient age identified that both rs10483727 and rs33912345 were significantly associated with NTG in patients aged above 40 years (P=2.08x10-5; OR=2.28), whereas in patients aged between 20-40 years, rs33912345 was significantly associated with NTG (P=0.017; OR=2.06). In HTG, the genetic associations for both rs10483727 and rs33912345 were significant in patients aged between 20-40 years (P=0.006; OR= 1.56) but not in those aged above 40 years (P=0.118, 0R=1.21 and P=0.042, OR= 1.29, respec- tively). This study replicated the association of POAG with two SNPs at the SIX1-SIX6 locus and demonstrated that SNPs, rs10483727 and rs33912345, are significantly associated with POAG, especially with NTG in patients aged above 40 years.

文摘Patterns of brachiopod paleobiogeographic regionalization in Central Asia reveal a coevolution between brachiopod paleobiogeography and tectonopaleogeography during the Early Devonian,Early Carboniferous,Late Carboniferous,Early Permian,and Middle Permian.The coevolutionary relationship reasonably accounts for the formation mechanisms of brachiopod paleobiogeography in this region,and also provides a basis for studies on the location and configuration of oceans and plates(blocks)during the late Paleozoic in Central Asia.
