A sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) membrane with a fairly high degree of sulfonation (DS) can swell excessively and even dissolve at high temperature. To solve these problems, insolvable functionalize...A sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) membrane with a fairly high degree of sulfonation (DS) can swell excessively and even dissolve at high temperature. To solve these problems, insolvable functionalized silica powder with sulfonic acid groups (SiOx-S) was added into the SPEEK matrix (DS = 55.1%) to prepare SPEEK/ SiOx-S composite membranes. The decrease in both the swelling degree and the methanol permeability of the membranes was a dose-dependent result of addition of the SiOx-S powder. Pure SPEEK membrane swelled 52.6% at 80℃, whereas the SPEEK/SiOx-S (15%, by mass) membrane swelled only 27.3% at the same temperature. From room temperature to 80℃, all SPEEK/SPEEK/SiOx-S composite membranes had methanol permeability of about one order of magnitude lower than that ofNafion115. Compared with pure SPEEK membranes, the addition of the SiOx-S powder not only leads to higher proton conductivity, but also increases the dimensional stability at higher temperatures, and greater proton conductivity can be achieved at higher temperature. The SPEEK/SiO4-S (20%, by mass) membrane could withstand temperature up to 145℃, at which in 100% relative humidity (RH) its proton conductivity exceeded slightly that of Nafion 1 15 membrane and reached 0.17 S·cm^-1, while pure SPEEK membrane dissolved at 90℃. The SPEEK/SiOx-S composite membranes are promising for use in direct methanol fuel cells because of their good dimensional stability, high proton conductivity, and low methanol permeability.展开更多

A novel pulse 18O-16O isotopic exchange (PIE) technique for measurement of the rate of oxygen surface exchange of oxide ion conductors was presented. The technique employs a continuous flow packed-bed micro-reactor lo...A novel pulse 18O-16O isotopic exchange (PIE) technique for measurement of the rate of oxygen surface exchange of oxide ion conductors was presented. The technique employs a continuous flow packed-bed micro-reactor loaded with the oxide powder. The isothermal response to an 18O-enriched pulse passing through the reactor, thereby maintaining chemical equilibrium, is measured by on-line mass spectrometry. Evaluation of the apparent exchange rate follows from the uptake of 18O by the oxide at given reactor residence time and surface area available for exchange. The developed PIE technique is rapid, simple and highly suitable for screening and systematic studies. No rapid heating/quenching steps are required to facilitate 18O tracer anneal or analysis, as in other commonly used techniques based upon oxygen isotopic exchange. Moreover, the relative distribution of the oxygen isotopologues 18O2, 16O18O, and 16O2 in the effluent pulse provides insight into the mechanism of the oxygen exchange reaction. The PIE technique has been demonstrated by measuring the exchange rate of selected oxides with enhanced oxide ionic conductivity in the range of 350?900 oC. Analysis of the experimental data in terms of a model with two consecutive, lumped steps for the isotopic exchange reaction shows that for mixed conductors Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ(BSCF) and La2NiO4+δ the reaction is limited by the apparent rate of dissociative adsorption of O2 molecules at the oxide surface. For yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), a change-over takes place, from rate-limitations by oxygen incorporation below ∽800 oC to rate-limitations by O2 dissociative adsorption above this temperature. Good agreement is obtained with exchange rates reported for these materials in literature.展开更多

This paper is devoted to examiningthe apparently anomalous intrachain ferromagnetic behavior of {[Cu(Hpht)(N_3)]·H_2O}_n, using firstprinciples within the full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method. The totalenergy, the density of states (DOS), and the spin distributions are obtained. The atomic spindistribution has been analyzed as resulting from the interplay of electron delocalization and spinpolarization. The DOS reveals a surprisingly strong exchange interaction between the d type orbitalsof the copper and the π molecular orbitals of the two ligands.展开更多

Ion conductive polymer film (ICPF) actuators have been one of the strong candidates. The ICPF investigated here was a cation-exchange membrane (Nation 117, Du Pont). When a voltage is given between the metal eIectrodes of an ICPF actuator, the ICPF actuator bends in the water due to the motion of Li+ cations with associated water. In order to increase the freedom of the deformation of the ICPF actuator, structures of independent electrode pairs were proposed. The electrodes were selectively deposited by non-electrokvzed plating including the Pt [(NH3)6]^4+ deposition process in a [Pt(NH3)6]Cl4 solution and the reduction process in a NaBH4 solution. Fluorine-free proton exchange membranes(PEMs)capable of healing from physical damage are important for PEM fuel cells(PEMFCs)with extended service life and enhanced reliability.Herein,highly elastic fluorine-free PEMs...Fluorine-free proton exchange membranes(PEMs)capable of healing from physical damage are important for PEM fuel cells(PEMFCs)with extended service life and enhanced reliability.Herein,highly elastic fluorine-free PEMs with excellent self-healing ability and high proton conductivity are fabricated through complexation of phytic acid(PA)with sulfonated polyvinyl alcohol(SPVA),followed by subsequent grafting of SPVA with positively charged 4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzenecarbaldehyde(IBZ).Compared with recast Nafion membranes,the as-prepared SPVA-IBZ/PA membranes exhibit an enhanced mechanical strength and elasticity and can spontaneously recover from a^50%strain to their initial states within^30 s at room temperature.Meanwhile,the SPVA-IBZ/PA membranes have a proton conductivity of^0.095 S cm-1at^70°C,which is higher than that of recast Nafion membranes.The hydrogen-powered PEMFCs using the SPVA-IBZ/PA membranes,which show an open circuit voltage of^0.98 V and maximum power density of^609 mW cm-2,exhibit a satisfactory cell performance.Importantly,the SPVA-IBZ/PA membranes can spontaneously heal mechanical damage of several tens of micrometers in size and restore their original proton conductivity and cell performance under the working conditions of PEMFCs.展开更多
The cationic group distribution along the polymeric backbones of anion exchange membranes(AEMs)has significant influence on their microscopic morphology and anion conductivity.To develop high-performance AEMs for vana...The cationic group distribution along the polymeric backbones of anion exchange membranes(AEMs)has significant influence on their microscopic morphology and anion conductivity.To develop high-performance AEMs for vanadium redox flow batteries(VRFBs),a series of poly(fluorenyl ether)samples bearing di-and tri-quaternary ammonium side chains with similar ion exchange capacities(IECs)were synthesized by grafting cationic alkyl chains with tertiary amine-containing poly(fluorenyl ether)precursors.The experimental results indicate that the introduction of the multi-cationic side chains facilitates the formation of micro-phase-separated morphologies and enhances anion conductivity.Moreover,the number of spacer atoms between the quaternary ammonium groups on the side chains affects the water uptake of the membranes,thus complicating the relationship between the density of cationic group distribution and anion conductivity.The poly(fluorenyl ether)s with dicationic side chains and six spacing atoms(DQA-PFE-C6)showed the highest anion conductivity.A VRFB assembled with DQA-PFE-C6 exhibited a maximum power density of 239.80 mW cm^−2 at 250 mA cm^−2,which is significantly higher than a VRFB assembled with Nafion 212.Therefore,side chain engineering is an effective chemical approach to enhance the properties of AEMs for VRFB applications.展开更多

In contrast to the extensive studies on proton- conductive M...With well-defined channels and tunable functionality, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have inspired the design of a new class of ion-conductive compounds. In contrast to the extensive studies on proton- conductive MOFs and related membranes attractive for fuel cells, rare reports focus on MOFs in preparation of anion exchange membranes. In this study, chloromethylated MIL-101 (Cr) was prepared and incor- porated into chloromethylated poly (ether ether ketone) (PEEK) as a multifunctional filler to prepare imidazolium PEEK/imidazolium MIL-101(Cr) (ImPEEK/ImMIL-101(Cr)) anion exchange membrane after synchronous quaternization. The successful synthesis and chloromethylation of MIL-101(Cr) were veri- fied by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy while the enhanced performance of composite membranes in hydroxide conductivity, mechanical strength and dimensional stability were evaluated by alternating-current impedance, electronic stretching machine and measurement of swelling ratio. Specifically, incorporating 5.0wt% ImMIL-101(Cr) afforded a 71.4% increase in hydroxide conductivity at 20℃, 100% RH. Besides, the composite membranes exhibited enhanced dimensional stability and mechanical strength due to the rigid framework of ImMIL- 101(Cr). At room temperature and the ImM1L-101(Cr) content of 10wt%, the swelling ratio of the ImPEEK/lmMIL-101(Cr) was 70.04% lower while the tensile strength was 47.5% higher than that of the pure membrane.展开更多

The steady-state temperature profile for the cold plate is derived and the relationship between the coolant mass flowrate, the heat load and the hashest cold plate temperature is established.A model is proposed to describe the transient thermal rosponse of the cold plate under thermal shock condition. The analytic solution of the transient heat transfer within the cold plate is provided. The results of this paper agree with those of the finite element method and can be used for the structural design and performance evaluation of cold plate system.展开更多

Membranes with high ion conductivity and selectivity are important for vanadium redox flow batteries.Herein, densely quaternized anion exchange membranes based on quaternary ammonium functionalized octa-benzylmethyl-c...Membranes with high ion conductivity and selectivity are important for vanadium redox flow batteries.Herein, densely quaternized anion exchange membranes based on quaternary ammonium functionalized octa-benzylmethyl-containing poly(fluorenyl ether ketone)s(QA-OMPFEKs) were prepared from the(i) condensation polymerization of a newly developed octa-benzylmethyl-containing bisphenol monomer via Ullmann coupling,(ii) bromination at the benzylmethyl sites using N-bromosuccinimide, and(iii)quaternization of the bromomethyl groups using trimethylamine. The QA-OMPFEK-20 with an ion exchange capacity(IEC) of 1.66 mmolg^-1 exhibited a higher SO42-conductivity(9.62mScm^-1) than that of the QA-TMPFEK-40(4.82mScm^-1) at room temperature, which had a slightly higher IEC of 1.73 mmolg-1but much lower QA density.The enhanced SO42-conductivity of QA-OMPFEK-20 was attributed to the ion-segregated structure arising from the densely anchored QA groups, which was validated by SAXS observation. Furthermore, the QA-OMPFEK-20 showed much lower VO2+permeability(1.24×10^-14m^2s^-1) than QA-TMPFEK-40(5.40×10^-13m^2s^-1) and Nafion N212(5.36×10^-12m^2s^-1), leading to improved Coulombic and energy efficiencies in Vanadium redox flow batteries(VRFBs). Therefore, the Ullmann coupling extension is a valuable approach for the development of high performance anion exchange membranes for VRFBs.展开更多

The microstructure and crystal structure of the QDs, which were confirmed by TEM and XRD, showed that partial cation exchange occurred inside the CdSe QDs. Two main mechanisms are responsible for the excellent photothermal conversion: inhibition of radiative recombination of carriers due to the formation of type-II semiconductor heterostructures, and the large surface-to-volume ratio of the QDs. Photothermal conversion experiments indicated that the CdSe/Bi2Se3 QDs showed high photothermal conversion efficiency and excellent NIR photostability.展开更多

文摘With well-defined channels and tunable functionality, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have inspired the design of a new class of ion-conductive compounds. In contrast to the extensive studies on proton- conductive MOFs and related membranes attractive for fuel cells, rare reports focus on MOFs in preparation of anion exchange membranes. In this study, chloromethylated MIL-101 (Cr) was prepared and incor- porated into chloromethylated poly (ether ether ketone) (PEEK) as a multifunctional filler to prepare imidazolium PEEK/imidazolium MIL-101(Cr) (ImPEEK/ImMIL-101(Cr)) anion exchange membrane after synchronous quaternization. The successful synthesis and chloromethylation of MIL-101(Cr) were veri- fied by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy while the enhanced performance of composite membranes in hydroxide conductivity, mechanical strength and dimensional stability were evaluated by alternating-current impedance, electronic stretching machine and measurement of swelling ratio. Specifically, incorporating 5.0wt% ImMIL-101(Cr) afforded a 71.4% increase in hydroxide conductivity at 20℃, 100% RH. Besides, the composite membranes exhibited enhanced dimensional stability and mechanical strength due to the rigid framework of ImMIL- 101(Cr). At room temperature and the ImM1L-101(Cr) content of 10wt%, the swelling ratio of the ImPEEK/lmMIL-101(Cr) was 70.04% lower while the tensile strength was 47.5% higher than that of the pure membrane.
文摘The heat-transfer behaviour of the conduction cold plate system used for avionics is investigated in this paper. The steady-state temperature profile for the cold plate is derived and the relationship between the coolant mass flowrate, the heat load and the hashest cold plate temperature is established.A model is proposed to describe the transient thermal rosponse of the cold plate under thermal shock condition. The analytic solution of the transient heat transfer within the cold plate is provided. The results of this paper agree with those of the finite element method and can be used for the structural design and performance evaluation of cold plate system.

文摘Let R be a commutative ring with identity, Nn(R) the matrix algebra consisting of all n × n strictly upper triangular matrices over R with the usual product operation. An R-linear map φ : Nn(R) → Nn(R) is said to be an SZ-derivation of Nn(R) if x2 = 0 implies that φ(x)x+xφ(x) = 0. It is said to be an S-derivation of Nn(R) if φ(x2) = φ(x)x+xφ(x) for any x ∈ Nn(R). It is said to be a PZ-derivation of Nn(R) if xy = 0 implies that φ(x)y+xφ(y) = 0. In this paper, by constructing several types of standard SZ-derivations of Nn(R), we first characterize all SZ-derivations of Nn(R). Then, as its application, we determine all S-derivations and PZ- derivations of Nn(R), respectively.

文摘Membranes with high ion conductivity and selectivity are important for vanadium redox flow batteries.Herein, densely quaternized anion exchange membranes based on quaternary ammonium functionalized octa-benzylmethyl-containing poly(fluorenyl ether ketone)s(QA-OMPFEKs) were prepared from the(i) condensation polymerization of a newly developed octa-benzylmethyl-containing bisphenol monomer via Ullmann coupling,(ii) bromination at the benzylmethyl sites using N-bromosuccinimide, and(iii)quaternization of the bromomethyl groups using trimethylamine. The QA-OMPFEK-20 with an ion exchange capacity(IEC) of 1.66 mmolg^-1 exhibited a higher SO42-conductivity(9.62mScm^-1) than that of the QA-TMPFEK-40(4.82mScm^-1) at room temperature, which had a slightly higher IEC of 1.73 mmolg-1but much lower QA density.The enhanced SO42-conductivity of QA-OMPFEK-20 was attributed to the ion-segregated structure arising from the densely anchored QA groups, which was validated by SAXS observation. Furthermore, the QA-OMPFEK-20 showed much lower VO2+permeability(1.24×10^-14m^2s^-1) than QA-TMPFEK-40(5.40×10^-13m^2s^-1) and Nafion N212(5.36×10^-12m^2s^-1), leading to improved Coulombic and energy efficiencies in Vanadium redox flow batteries(VRFBs). Therefore, the Ullmann coupling extension is a valuable approach for the development of high performance anion exchange membranes for VRFBs.

文摘Water-dispersed CdSe/Bi2Se3 core/shell QDs with a photothermal conversion coefficient of 27.09% have been synthesized by a cation exchange reaction. The microstructure and crystal structure of the QDs, which were confirmed by TEM and XRD, showed that partial cation exchange occurred inside the CdSe QDs. Two main mechanisms are responsible for the excellent photothermal conversion: inhibition of radiative recombination of carriers due to the formation of type-II semiconductor heterostructures, and the large surface-to-volume ratio of the QDs. Photothermal conversion experiments indicated that the CdSe/Bi2Se3 QDs showed high photothermal conversion efficiency and excellent NIR photostability.
