Relationship between number of passing events and operating parameters in mixed bicycle traffic

This paper investigates the passing events between electric bicycles and conventional bicycles and explores the relationships between passing events and traffic parameters in bicycle facilities.Three exclusive bicycle paths in Nanjing, China,were observed with cameras.Then,the field data including vehicle number,velocity characteristics and passing event features were analyzed in detail.Data analysis and fitting reveal that the speed difference has little impact on the passing event number,as does the bicycle ratio.The Gaussian function can better describe the relationship between the passing event number and bicycle volume （density）.The valid use level of bicycle path width influences the inflexion of the passing events-density fitting curve.The conclusions can be applied for estimating the passing events in mixed bicycle flows and for choosing a suitable width of separate bicycle path.

Traffic condition estimation with pre-selection space time model

A pre-selection space time model was proposed to estimate the traffic condition at poor-data-detector,especially non-detector locations.The space time model is better to integrate the spatial and temporal information comprehensibly.Firstly,the influencing factors of the "cause nodes" were studied,and then the pre-selection "cause nodes" procedure which utilizes the Pearson correlation coefficient to evaluate the relevancy of the traffic data was introduced.Finally,only the most relevant data were collected to compose the space time model.The experimental results with the actual data demonstrate that the model performs better than other three models.

Grey-relation Analysis of Traffic System and Urbanization in Jilin Province of China

It has been long believed there should be some relations between traffic system and urbanization,but the in-teraction between them,especially on the regional level,has been not in consideration due to the difficulty in quantitative analysis.Based on the development of Jilin Province during 1981-2003,the paper analyzed the relation with the grey-relation model which was adjusted to fit specific problem,and came to some conclusions.Firstly,there exists ob-vious and strong correlation between traffic system and urbanization.Secondly,urbanization responds to the develop-ment of traffic system mainly on the level of urbanization,such as population and developed area,however,less on urbanization quality.Thirdly,traffic system influences urbanization as a whole except for several peculiar factors,which means we should optimize the whole traffic system to promote urbanization.Based on those conclusions,the paper illustrated the mechanism of traffic system,promoting urbanization scale and urbanization quality.

Alternatives of Strategic Environmental Assessment for Road Traffic Development Planning——Case of Changchun City,China

On analyzing the achievement of the goal in the modem urban road traffic development planning, the alternative of Strategic Environmental Assessment for urban traffic planning should include the basic scheme, the extended scheme and the environmental protection scheme. This study from different perspectives designed the alternatives for Changchun＇s county-level road and urban road system planning, and used the method of System Dynamics to simulate, optimize and analyze those alternatives. Thereafter, some methods including the correlation function method were used to comprehensively assess and rank those alternatives for recommending two best alternatives with the consideration to the indicators, such as the total emission amount of CO, the total emission amount of nitrogen oxides, the noise value, the road construction cost, the fossil oil consumption and the traffic capacity. The result showed that the study would provide substantial supports for decision-makers to make more scientific decisions and promote the sustainable urban traffic in Changchun City.

Tariff Policy of the Logistics System of the Public Transport of the City

The article discusses the important part of the tariff policy of transportation of passengers by public transport, which plays a significant role in the formation of a general transportation tariff. The recommendations, given in the article, are mainly related to a Georgian example which may also be applicable to other countries, especially considering that in the process of preparation of the article, the current situation at the post-soviet states （Russia, the Ukraine, and Belarus） was also examined and taken into account, and the presented methodology is a combined version of that experience.

On the Application of TED Speeches Into Flipped Learning for English Learners Taking the TED Speeches With the Keyword ＂Transportation＂ as an Example

Flipped learning is a reversal of the traditional teaching strategy, which has changed the timing of teacher＇s lectures and homework. In this revolutionary situation, the appropriateness of the before-class videos and other materials and the arrangement of class in the classroom play an important role in the fulfillment of application of the materials. Classical TED speeches are the excellent options for English language learners＇ flipped learning. This paper tends to make a case study of the application of TED speeches into flipped learning, taking the speeches with the keyword ＂transportation＂ as an example.

Exploring relations between city regions based on mobile phone data

City regions often have great diversity in form and function. To better understand the role of each region, the relations between city regions need to be carefully studied. In this work, the human mobility relations between regions of Shanghai based on mobile phone data is explored. By formulating the regions as nodes in a network and the commuting between each pair of regions as link weights, the distribution of nodes degree, and spatial structures of communities in this relation network are studied. Statistics show that regions locate in urban centers and traffic hubs have significantly larger degrees. Moreover, two kinds of spatial structures of communities are found. In most communities, nodes are spatially neighboring. However, in the communities that cover traffic hubs, nodes often locate along corridors.

A new measure for evaluating spatially related properties of traffic information credibility

With the wide applications of sensor network technology in traffic information acquisition systems,a new measure will be quite necessary to evaluate spatially related properties of traffic information credibility.The heterogeneity of spatial distribution of information credibility from sensor networks is analyzed and a new measure,information credibility function(ICF),is proposed to describe this heterogeneity.Three possible functional forms of sensor ICF and their corresponding expressions are presented.Then,two feasible operations of spatial superposition of sensor ICFs are discussed.Finally,a numerical example is introduced to show the calibration method of sensor ICF and obtain the spatially related properties of expressway in Beijing.The results show that the sensor ICF of expressway in Beijing possesses a negative exponent property.The traffic information is more abundant at or near the locations of sensor,while with the distance away from the sensor increasing,the traffic information credibility will be declined by an exponential trend.The new measure provides theoretical bases for the optimal locations of traffic sensor networks and the mechanism research of spatial distribution of traffic information credibility.

Distributional Effects of Transport Taxes： An Incidence Analysis

Wider use of economic instruments in the field of environmental and energy policy provides several benefits. These instruments not only create market-based incentives for environmentally friendly behaviors but also represent effective opportunities to collect revenues. In this context, energy and transport-related taxes play a major role, even if their extensive use has raised several concerns over equity issues. The main objective of the paper is to investigate the redistributive burden of existing transport taxes on Italian households. An incidence analysis is carried out on a sample of more than 23,000 Italian families for the year 2009. Some alternative policy options are also analyzed to provide some suggestions on how to countervail the potential negative regressive effects that might arise. We find that vehicle ownership taxes, if properly set, can represent a promising opportunity to blend together budget and equity needs. To obtain a better indication of the progressivity or regressivity of certain policy designs, we rely on some summary indexes, such as the Kakwani measure of progressivity and the Reynolds-Smolensky measure of redistributive capacity of a tax.

Logistics Management based on Supply Chain Management

Logistics is an important part of the supply chain and connect all aspects of the supply chain throughout it, which has become business cooperation ties. In the process of developing supply chain logistics strategy, generally require attention to the following questions： To segment customers, we should determine the appropriate level of customer service, such as order cycle, inventory levels and other modes of transport for different types of clients; Group products according to sales on them, we can take different strategies for each category of products. Order entry, order execution and delivery job processing accounted for a large proportion of logistics activities, which requires technology and management to make the entire processes of supply chain logistics more efficient, especially for the interface area between members of enterprises. We can eliminate redundant work by integrating flow, improve logistics efficiency.

Traumatic bilateral hip dislocation with bilateral sciatic nerve palsy

Bilateral hip dislocation rarely occurs. In this paper, a case of bilateral hip dislocation associated with bilateral sciatic nerve palsy resulted from a road traffic accident is reported. Both hips were emergently reduced under general anaesthesia. Acetabular reconstruction was done bilaterally due to the unstable hips. The patient subsequently developed heterotopic ossification and avascular necrosis on the left hip and underwent total hip arthroplasty. The sciatic nerve on the right side achieved complete recovery but that on the left side only partly recovered and was augmented by tendon transfer. Such injuries are serious and one should be aware of the complications because they can resurface and so patients should be followed up for a long time. To the best of our knowledge, this kind of injury has not been reported in the English .language literature.

Multiple volar dislocations of the carpometacarpal joints with an associated fracture of the first metacarpal base

Multiple pometacarpal （CMC） joints volar dislocations of car- are uncommon and have been reported rarely. A 25 years old male presented with injury to his left hand 6 days following a road traffic accident. Clini- cal examination revealed gross swelling of the hand and diffuse tenderness over the carpometacarpal area. His ra- diographs of the hand showed volar dislocation of the second, third and fourth CMC joints in association with anextra-articular fracture of the base of thumb metacarpal. He was treated by open reduction and percutaneous fixation using Kirschner wires. The functional results were excellent at one year follow-up.
