But the communicative approach conforms to historical trends, focusing on students and developing their overall language ability to handle changes and solve problems. Proceeding from the tortuous course of teaching reform on English, analyzing theories of foreign language approaches and characteristics of communicative approach and researching into its strategies, the author aims to study how to spur teaching reform on college English towards great success.展开更多

In terms of entitative dimension, the basic components of the CA are communicative subjects, context and situation, content, and mode. From the functional perspective, the CA helps to improve the learners' ability to communicate in the target language, the dual construction of the learners and the target culture, and the mutual development of the teacher and the learners.展开更多

With the recent accession to the WTO, the long-awaited Olympic games in Beijing, China has made learning English a national priority. It is very important and necessary to research on how to adapt CLT flexibly and appropriately to China's context if most Chinese English learners are to gain a good grasp of oral English, and if specialist learning is to be achieved by those who need English for business and academic purposes. Therefore this essay is structured as follows: First, analyzing the different types of English teaching methods in China and then focusing on the CLT Method. By analyzing and contrasting these English teaching methods, the need to change the current English teaching methods in China will be discovered. Finally, it explains the problems of adopting the more modem CLT Approach and gives suggestions on how it may best be adapted to the Chinese context.展开更多

Both of them cannot meet the requirements of improving the non-English major students' argumentative writing scores. So based on the Lexical Approach theory, taking the College English Integrated Course 4 (LI, 2003) as the main teaching material and lexical phrases as teaching and learning units, this study explores the effectiveness of the Lexical Approach in improving non-English major students' argumentative writing through classroom activities of input, absorption, and output of lexical phrases. The results show that lexical phrases have more effects on students' English competence than single words. They can help to improve the argumentative writing scores and cultivate an interest in learning English independently.展开更多

This discussion highlights three components---organizational competence, pragmatic competence and strategic competence in Bachman's. Only when we have knowledge of language and the capacity to execute the competence, could we apply the communicative pedagogical applications properly into the Communicate Language Teaching (CLT) to achieve these competences.展开更多

LEI (Longman English Interactive) is one of them Recently, many teachers in China's Mainland learn to adopt TBLT (task-based language teaching) in these interactive courses including LEI. However, some of them feel confused about how to apply TBLT more effectively in their classes since they may not understand clearly why TBLT is such a "matching" teaching method for this type of classes. To illustrate this issue, this paper sets LEI as an example. It firstly analyzes the syllabus design of LEI based on the theories of communicative teaching approach, then discusses about why the renowned TBLT is a suitable method to organize the class, and finally exemplifies how TBLT can be fully applied to the course in real classrooms. The objective of this paper is to inspire English teachers to have a better application of TBLT in interactive classes alike.展开更多

And CLT is the best choice to solve this problem. CLT focus on improving students' communicative competence through creating harmonious teaching environment, establishing fruitful teacher-student relationship and organizing effective classroom activities. Through the experiment done in the an independent college oral English class, this thesis tries to prove CLT is effective for improving independent college students' communicative competence by tests, questionnaire and interview to seventy non-English freshmen of our college by means of qualitative and quantitative methods. Besides, this thesis provides the teaching model of CLT. Through the painstaking organization of classroom teaching, students can experience the real communicative environment and can cultivate the ability of using language.展开更多

Research findings indicate that for EFL students, the grammar ability is a result of learning, rather than of acquisition, and that English grammar can be taught as an individual subject. While employing CLT approach in their EFL teaching, practitioners need a critical eye to caution against its idolization. Finally, the survey reveals that instrumental orientation provides an effective context for language success.展开更多

It examines the classroom observations of five English language teacher participants to reveal how CLT is applied in their English classes. Two of the five participants, Ms. Lan and Ms. Shan, who claim to be strong supporters of the CLT approach, and who teach the same Comprehensive English Reading Course with the same textbooks, are selected in particular for detailed comparison and analysis in order to show similarities and differences between them in line with the principles of the CLT approach. The findings of this study show that the gap between what the teachers claim to be doing and what they actually do reflects not only their misconceptions about CLT, but also manifests the various challenges confronting them in adopting CLT in their English classes.展开更多

In this paper, a dialectical approach is employed to the education of intercultural knowledge of nonverbal communication, in which two most important aspects of the nonverbal language are focused on: kinemics and proxemics. I will start with a brief literature review of nonverbal communication and the approaches to the study of intercultural communication, and then discuss the theoretical considerations underpinning the fields concerned. Following these, I will illustrate, in the fields of kinemics and proxemics, the importance of teaching both cultural similarities and cultural differences to our students, and exemplify with reference to some classroom activities I designed how the dialectical approach to teaching nonverbal communication can be used at the university where I study. I will make a conclusion by evaluating the dialectical approach as well as its suitability for teaching intercultural nonverbal communication strategies in the situation of Chinese universities. For classroom teaching of nonverbal kinemics and proxenics in China, it is relatively new to employ a dialectical approach.展开更多
