To change the present development model, the spatial distribution of industries must coordinate with the environmental bearing capacity. The present practice we take to change resources distribution to meet the existing arrangement of industries will bring incredible calamitous consequence to the development in the future. To make industry’s arrangement coordinate with ecological environment, and to adopt the method similar to “arranging along the rivers” should become the guidelines of spatial distribution of industries.展开更多

In this paper we explore the improved M function of geographic concentration that adds the parameter of the number of firms according to the definition of geographic concentration of industries. The spatial distribution of the main manufacturing industries of Lanzhou urban area is evaluated based on it. The results of the evaluation imply that the spatial distribution of the main manufacturing industries is more concentrated than that of others in Lanzhou and it can absorb lots of labor forces. But the incidence, competition ability and density of the distribution of enterprises are different for each single sector, and enterprises with different production features are located closely. And three main problems are discovered. Finally, three countermeasures are put forward: locating the industrial enterprises in urban areas in a proper way through planning and policies; adjusting the industrial structure of the inner city; strengthening the local rearrangement of the existing industrial concentration areas.展开更多

When more energy is put into production activities, labor productivity increases and the economy and social development improve. Industrial structural change is an important factor that affects the growth of regional energy efficiency. In modern development, industrial structural improvement is closely related to regional energy efficiency and the status of industrial structure. Energy efficiency can together reflect a country's development level, sustainable development and the direction in which its economy will head. This paper discusses the contribution of industrial structural adjustment to regional energy efficiency growing with a spatial perspective. This study based on 31 mainland provinces in China, uses statistics of industrial structure and corresponding energy utilization data, adopting mathematic model and spatial analysis approaches, reveals that the 31 provinces in China differed in their contribution to industrial structural adjustment to regional energy efficiency. The outcome reflected contribution is obvious in those provinces with appropriate industrial structure and good economies or the ones developed late as well as the undeveloped middle and western provinces that are in initial stage of industrial restructuring. But that is not obvious in those provinces with the undeveloped leading industries, with weak economic basis, and with a relatively low level of industrial structure.展开更多

This paper provides a literature review on China's industrial geography, paying special attention to industrial agglomeration and industrial clusters. The increasing industrial agglomeration and development of industrial clusters have been the prominent characteristics of dynamics of industrial landscape in China. The major driving forces of China's industrial geography include economic globalization, decentralization and regional competition and rebuilding of regional advantages. This paper concludes with a discussion of future research focus.展开更多
