A subsurface flow constructed wetland, which covered an area of 7 227 m^2 was finally designed. It could treat 7 000 m^3 of tailwater from the wastewater treatment plant a day. In addition, the system could reduce the emission of COD, BODs, TN, TP and NH3-N by 25.55, 25.55, 12.78, 1.28 and 17.89 t respectively a day. The outlet water was proved to reach the Standard A of the first class in Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant (GB 18918-2002).展开更多

METHODS: Comparative quantification of 16S rDNAs from different intestinal bacterial components was used to quantify multiple intestinal bacteria. The 16S rDNAs of different bacteria were amplified simultaneously by cPCR. The LDR/LCR was examined to actualize the genotyping and quantification. Two beneficial (Bifidobacterium , Lactobacillus ) and three conditionally pathogenic bacteria (Enterococcus , Enterobacterium and Eubacterium ) were used in this detection. With cloned standard bacterial 16S rDNAs, standard curves were prepared to validate the quantitative relations between the ratio of original concentrations of two templates and the ratio ofthe fluorescence signals of their final ligation products. The internal controls were added to monitor the whole detection flow. The quantity ratio between two bacteria was tested. RESULTS: cPCR and LDR revealed obvious linear correlations with standard DNAs, but cPCR and LCR did not. In the sample test, the distributions of the quantity ratio between each two bacterial species were obtained. There were significant differences among these distributions in the total samples. But these distributions of quantity ratio of each two bacteria remained stable among groups divided by age or sex. CONCLUSION: The detection method in this study can be used to conduct multiple intestinal bacteria genotyping and quantification, and to monitor the human intestinal health status as well.展开更多

Indonesia, a major ASEAN economy, is crucial but Indonesia has a limited perception of the B&R initiative. Although its government welcomes it and the ruling coalition cooperates positively, parts of the military and opposition are skeptical of China's intent. The B&R initiative is well-received among the Indonesian Chinese group, while Indonesian academic circles remain cautious and somewhat critical. From a Chinese viewpoint, easing negative or hostile emotions appropriately would be well-timed. China should settle the Natuna issue, adjust its publicity in Indonesia, use diplomacy, and promote Sino-Indonesia cultural exchange and communications. Chinese enterprises should focus on project quality and uphold social responsibilities. Short-term goals are reducing Indonesia's opposition and obstruction of B&R, while long-term goals are enhancing the recognition and likeability of the Initiative's worthwhile plans.展开更多

Consequently, educational programs for teaching engineers should work with the fact that the capability of communicating with people with different background competences is important, nevertheless the engineering education has traditionally focused on technical skills rather than on personal development. In order to reform the B.Sc. courses to guide students to become better and more efficient engineers on all levels, the DTU (Technical University of Denmark) and Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (Metropolia) modified their education according to the CDIO (conceive, design, implement and operate) approach in the autumn of 2008. The CDIO pedagogy encouraged to develop an interactive course in interpersonal skills, where the students have to take an active part in the exercises as well as involve themselves in the interactive communication process. The course consists of various exercises from which the participants will develop their awareness and knowledge of communication. It is the intention to give the students a personal understanding and idea of a different approach to communicating between people. The students evaluated the course, and the four key questions dealing with the quality of the course show a very high satisfaction with the instruction. The grades one and two (1 best/very much, 5 worst/very little) of the responses "to these four questions are ranging on average from 69.5% to 88% (on a yearly basis). The positive responses indicate that the students are very satisfied with the course recognizing the need for education on international communication.展开更多

The literature says that the head of the largest canyon at Trincomalee is situated 200 m from the shore. The objective of this paper is to highlight the extension of the canyon structure by studying the recent geotechnical investigations around the Mahaweli delta. A number of boreholes were constructed for groundwater investigations around the Mahaweli river floodplains and the other boreholes were constructed to determine the depth to the bedrock for a bridge foundation at the river outfall. The depth to the bedrock at the river outfall is more than 75 m and decreases towards upstream. The shape of the bedrock below the thick fluvial sediments in the studied area indicates the head of canyon should be marked more than 35 km from the shore towards inland. It is obvious that the submarine canyon at Trincomalee is only a part of a very large canyon. The thick fluvial sedimentary deposit over this canyon within the land is a result of erosion of bedrock along a shear zone or fault and then the rise of sea level in recent times.展开更多

Goal achievement related to a company's operations is called business or the business process. Human capital (man's work, employees) is an important element of the business process, however its value is not disclosed on the assets side of the classical balance sheet. In order to shown assets, human capital has to be evaluated. Evaluation can be made in monetary or non-monetary terms. Non-monetary models for evaluating human capital include organisational and behavioural variables. These variables are not expressed in monetary terms, however, based on changes in their quality, one can assume the increased or decreased value of human capital within the company. The value of non-monetary models should not be underestimated, however monetary models are of greater importance. In this article, the most significant non-monetary and monetary models of human capital evaluation are discussed. Among non-monetary models the Michigan, Flamholz, and Ogan models are discussed. Among monetary models the replacement costs model, the opportunity costs model, the discounted wages and salaries model, and originally created dynamic model are discussed. A descriptive approach is used to identify the basic characteristics of existing models for evaluating human capital. According to these findings a different approach is taken in developing an original model. Dynamic model can efficiently overcome most of the practical problems and can be used as an appropriate estimator of human capital value expressed in monetary terms. The research limitations are that the dynamic model has not been sufficiently verified in practice. The model could prove to be directly applicable in those enterprises that would like to define the value of their human capital.展开更多
