Silver pomfret juveniles weighing 1±0.1 g actively preyed on both the species. Their daily A. aurita consumption was 11.6 times their own body weights regardless of the size of A. aurita medusae. Their daily R. esculent um consumption was 13, 9.1, 5, and 4.1 times their own body weights when the R. esculentum medusae were 10, 20, 30, and 40 mm in bell diameter, respectively. The survival rates of the R. esculent um were higher than those of the A. aurita. When the R. esculent um medusae were more than 30 mm in bell diameter, their survival rate exceeded 92%. Silver pomfrets serve as a type of potential predators on A. aurita in coastal waters, and they have little infl uence on R. esculent um with a size exceeding 30 mm. Besides, A. aurita may be able to be used as fi sh prey in silver pomfret artifi cial breeding.展开更多

Using different physico-chemical methods, it has been found that uranium and tritium content in the water exceeds the background values of the flood plain of the River Yenisei. It has been shown that a wide range of radionuclides of different genesis flows into the waters of the Yenisei River. It has been demonstrated that radionuclides are transported by the water flow in the form of molecular solution or with suspended matter. In this case, the suspended matter consists of pelitic finely dispersed mineral particles, plant and organic detritus and living biological objects (for example, worms). It has been shown that the main contribution to radionuclide and metal accumulation is made by humic substances covering the panicles of the suspended matter and actively participating in the formation of complexes with radionuclides and heavy metals. As a result of this work, the artificial radionuclide inflow into the ecosystem of the River Yenisei has been evidenced.展开更多

It has been reported to reduce heavy metals in wastewater but no substantive work has been reported about its ability to remove nitrogen and phosphorus, particularly in agricultural wastewater. If this technology's worth in nutrient removal from wastewater can be proved, it can save time as well as reducing wastewater treatment cost. Influent and effluent nitrogen and phosphate concentrations in the constructed rhizofiltration were measured and it was found that there was a significant difference between the two water samples (P = 0.01). It was also found that more nitrogen and phosphate were retained by planted region (P = 0.01) compared to unplanted (P = 0.02), demonstrating high removal efficiency in the planted region than in the unplanted region. Eighty six percent (86%) removal efficiency of phosphorus was achieved at some points in the planted region while 71% was achieved for nitrogen. These results indicate that constructed rhizofiltration systems, if properly constructed and planted with macrophytes and maintained, can be used for nitrogen and phosphorus removal in wastewater and thus could be used as an alternative technology for agricultural wastewater treatment.展开更多

The SDSM has been calibrated and generated for the possible future scenarios of meteorological variables, which are temperature and rainfall by using GCMs (global climate models). The GCM used is SRES A2. The downscaled meteorological variables corresponding to SDSM were then used as input to the ANNs model calibrated with observed station data to simulate the corresponding future streamflow changes in the sub-catchment of Kurau River. This study has discovered the hydrological trend over the catchment. The projected monthly streamflow has shown a decreasing trend due to the increase in the, mean of temperature for overall months, except the month of August and November.展开更多
