The parameters were confirmed by comparing prediction errors and correlation coefficients of models, which have been built with all the parameters used commonly with training of all permutations and combinations. The application was focused on Mg-Zn-Mn and Mg-Zn-Y-Zr alloys. The prediction of mechanical properties of Mg-Zn-Mn alloys and the effects of mole ratios of Y to Zn on the strengths in Mg-Zn-Y-Zr alloys were investigated by using the improved models. The predicted results are good agreement with the experimental values. A high strength extruded Mg-Zn-Zr-Y alloy was also developed by the models. The applications of the models indicate that the improved models can be used to develop new types of wrought magnesium alloys.展开更多

In finite state machine model of emotion, the emotional space included the basic emotional space and the multiple emotional spaces. The emotion-switching diagram was defined and transition fimction was developed using Markov chain and linear interpolation algorithm. The simulation model was built using Stateflow toolbox and Simulink toolbox based on the Matlab platform. And the model included three subsystems: the input one, the emotion one and the behavior one. In the emotional subsystem, the responses of different personalities to the external stimuli were described by defining personal space. This model takes states from an emotional space and updates its state depending on its current state and a state of its input (also a state-emotion). The simulation model realizes the process of switching the emotion from the neutral state to other basic emotions. The simulation result is proved to correspond to emotion-switching law of human beings.展开更多

On the basis of numerous studies, shaking table tests with four different typical boundaries are performed in this study. The tests consider the seismic intensity and seismic wave types. Then, the simulation effects of the four boundary conditions are evaluated from four aspects as follows: the differential rate of peak acceleration, acceleration curve, similarity of Fourier frequency spectra, and uneven soil settlement in rigid containers. Results show that the simulation effects of the boundary conditions are not only affected by the nature of the boundary material but also related to the seismic intensity, types of seismic waves, and filter characteristic of the filling medium in containers. In comparison with the other three types of boundary condition, foamed polyethylene shows the best simulation effect and its effect decreases gradually with the increase in earthquake intensity. Finally, on the basis of existing studies, the evaluation criteria of boundary effect, the principle for the selection of boundary material type and the thickness of boundary material are discussed and summarized, and the corresponding design methods and suggestions are then provided.展开更多

Control of this emerging new class of robots has proved difficult due to the inherent complexity of their dynamics. Using a recently established full dynamic model, the authors introduce a new nonlinear model-based control strategy for continuum robots. The approach is applicable to continuum robots which can extend/contract as well as bend throughout their structure. Results are illustrated using the mathematical model of a three-section, six-degree of freedom planar continuum robot.展开更多

Intelligent control systems are required to overcome unde- sirable stick-slip motion, limit cycles and oscillations. Models of electro-hydraulic servo controlled front end loader excavators are highly nonlinear. The nonlinear model accounts for fluid flow rate of valve, pump hydraulics, and friction forces. The friction forces are modelled by Coulomb, viscous and Stribeck function. Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Controller (IT2FLC) is used to study the time-domain position responses of axes in the presence of external applied load. It has the ability to control the position of each of the three axes with minimum actuator position errors. Models presented are accurate and study the dynamics of the actuator and load. To improve the transient behaviour of the robotic excavator, we elim- inated iitter of the bucket movement in the presence of nonlinearities.展开更多

While the degradable properties after film degradation, including the mechanical properties and carbonyl index, were used as output parameters. It was carried out by the neural network toolbox of Matlab 6.5 soft-ware and Visual Basic 6.0. Discussed partition of sample data and model’s parameters, and then selected the best configuration of ANN network. The accurate scope of predicting results was analyzed. This model has a high precision in predicting on properties of the coal-filled film degradation.展开更多

The descriptive analysis shows that there is a great differ- ential in ADL by province among Chinese oldest old. The findings turn out that there does exist a significant differential in ADL between oldest old and young old, and that there is also a great differential in ADL by province among Chinese oldest old. The HLM demonstrates that comorbidity, age, cognitive impairment, visual impairment, and emotion could be the most important indi- vidual factors while natural environment, medical facilities, type of staple food and poverty rate in urban areas are the most sig- nificantly regional determinants of ADL of oldest old. The find- ings imply that future actions should not only be taken at individ- ual level, but also at regional level in order to achieve the goal of a healthy aging society in China.展开更多

The vertical bottom-following error and pitch angle error are stabilized by means of the stem plane, and the thruster is left to stabilize the longitudinal bottom-following error and forward speed. In order to better meet the need of engineering applications, working characteristics of the actuators were sufficiently considered to design the proposed controller. Different from the traditional method, the methodology used to solve the problem is generated by AUV model without a reference orientation, and it deals explicitly with vehicle dynamics and the geometric characteristics of the desired tracking bottom curve. The estimation of systemic uncertainties and disturbances and the pitch velocity PE (persistent excitation) conditions are not required. The stability analysis is given by Lyapunov theorem. Simulation results of a full nonlinear hydrodynamic AUV model are provided to validate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed controller.展开更多

A three-layer spherical head model with different and random layer conductivities is considered. Polynomial Chaos (PC) is used to model the randomness. The author performs a sensitivity and correlation analysis of EEG sensors influenced by uncertain conductivity. The author addressed the sensitivity analysis at three stages: dipole location and moment averaged out, only the dipole moment averaged out, and both fixed. On average, the author observes the least influenced electrodes along the great longitudinal fissure. Also, sensors located closer to a dipole source, are of greater influence to a change in conductivity. The highly influenced sensors were on average located temporal. This was also the case in the correlation analysis. Sensors in the temporal parts of the brain are highly correlated. Whereas the sensors in the occipital and lower frontal region, though they are close together, are not so highly correlated as in the temporal regions. This study clearly shows that intrinsic sensor correlation exists, and therefore cannot be discarded, especially in the inverse problem. In the latter it makes it possible not to specify the conductivities. It also offers an easy but rigorous modeling of the stochastic propagation of uncertain conductivity to sensorial potentials (e.g., making it suited for research on optimal placing of these sensors).展开更多

METHODS: Literature databases including PubMed, ISI web of science and other databases were searched.Pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% CI were calculated using random- or fixed-effects model. Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were also performed. RESULTS: Nineteen studies of GSTM1 (2660 cases and 4017 controls) and 16 studies of GSTT1 (2410 cases and 3669 controls) were included. The GSTM1/GSTT1 null genotypes were associated with increased risk of HCC in Chinese population (for GSTM1, OR = 1.487, 95% CI: 1.159 to 1.908, P = 0.002; for GSTT1, OR = 1.510, 95% CI: 1.236 to 1.845, P = 0.000). No publication bias was detected. In subgroup analysis, glutathione S-transferases polymorphisms were significantly associated with HCC risk among the subjects living in high-incidence areas, but not among the subjects living in low-incidence areas. CONCLUSION: The present meta-analysis suggests that GSTM1/GSTT1 null genotypes are associated with increased risk of HCC in Chinese population.展开更多

METHODS: A case-control investigation including 212 gastric cancer patients and 377 healthy controls was conducted. The genotypes of SNPs (rs6983267, rs7008482 and rs10808555) were examined and established through polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Multivariate logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association between SNPs and gastric cancer. RESULTS: The genotype frequencies of rs6983267 in gastric cancer patients were obviously different from those in the control (P = 0.005). GT genotype of rs6983267 was associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer compared with GG genotype (adjusted odds ratio = 2.01, 95% confidence interval: 1.28-3.14). Further stratified analysis indicated that rs6983267 GT genotype facilitated the risk of gastric cancer of non-cardiac and intestinal type (OR: 2.638, 95% CI: 1.464-4.753; OR: 1.916, 95% CI: 1.166-3.150, respectively). CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates for the first time that rs6983267 is involved in susceptibility to gastric cancer, although further large-sample investigations are still needed.展开更多
