In this paper, the impact of urban agglomeration on labor productivity is explored by making comparisons among these four cities. The model used for analysis is a classical model derived from previous studies. Some indicators, such as population density and economic density, were selected to examine the impact of urban agglomeration on the labor productivity based on the time-series data for the four cities from 1990 to 2007. The four main conclusions are: l) The promotion from the growth rate of population density on the growth rate of labor productivity is limited. 2) The negative relationship exists between the growth rate of employment density and the growth rate of labor productivity. 3) Agglomeration effect exists in the four cities, the highest one is Dalian, Shenyang takes the second place, followed by Changchun and Harbin, and the predominant promotion exerted on the labor productivity is the output density.展开更多

These two class problems have important applications to numerical algebra, VLSI- layout and algorithm graph theory respectively; And they are known to be NP-complete for general graphs. Some classes of special graphs have been investigated in the literatures. In this paper the exact solutions of the profile and the pathwidth of the complete multipartite graph Kn1,n2,...nr (r≥ 2) are determined.展开更多

Based on the basic theory of disaggregate model and its modelling method, nine grades were selected as the alternatives of trip time, the variables affecting time choice and the method getting their values were determined, and a multinomial logit (MNL) model was developed. Another 1 200 trip data of rural population were selected to testify the model's validity. The result shows that the maximum absolute error of each period between calculated value and statistic is 3.6%, so MNL model has high calculation accuracy.展开更多

A total of 21 young adults (aged 22.3 ± 1.5 years) and 20 elderly adults (aged 68.1 ±4.9 years) were recruited and asked to press square number buttons (from 0 to 9) on an experimental touchscreen with their right index finger. The buttons' size changed during the experiment with six conditions (6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 mm). It was found that a decrease of the button size to l0 mm or below tended to increase the operation time and error rate, whereas it decreased the subjective overall operability of the touchscreen. Such effects were greater in the elderly adults than in the young adults. In addition, the reaction positions on the buttons were found to be close to the right side of them, which led the fingertip to approach the right outline of the buttons. These findings suggest that the use of small touch buttons should be minimised on touchscreens, especially for elderly users.展开更多

In order to understand the passengers’ boarding process and mitigate passenger boarding time, a regression analysis framework is proposed to capture the difference and influential factors of boarding time for adult and elderly passengers based on smart card data from Changzhou. Boarding gap, the time difference between two consecutive smart card tapping records, is calculated to approximate passenger boarding time. Analysis of variance is applied to identify whether the difference in boarding time between adults and seniors is statistically significant. The multivariate regression modeling approach is implemented to analyze the influences of passenger types, marginal effects of each additional boarding passenger and bus floor types on the total boarding time at each stop. Results show that a constant difference exists in boarding time between adults and seniors even without considering the specific bus characteristics. The average passenger boarding time decreases when the number of passenger increases. The existence of two entrance steps delays the boarding process, especially for elderly passengers.展开更多

Due to importance of rainfall in many aspects, studies on rainfall forecast have been conducted since a few decades ago. Although many methods have been introduced, all the researches describe the study as complex because it involves numerous variables and still need to be improved. Nowadays, there are various traditional techniques and mathematical models available, yet, there are no result on which method provide the most reliable estimation. AR (auto-regressive), ARMA (auto-regressive moving average), ARIMA (auto-regressive integrated moving average) and ANNs (artificial neural networks) were introduced as a useful and efficient tool for modeling and forecasting. The conventional time series provide reasonable accuracy but suffer from the assumptions of stationary and linearity. The concept of neurons was introduced first which then developed to ANNs with back propagation training algorithm. Although certain ANNs) models are equivalent to time series model, but it is limited to short term forecasting. This Paper presents a mathematical approach for rainfall forecasting for Iran on monthly basic. The model is trained for monthly rainfall forecasting and tested to evaluate the performance of the model. The result Shows reasonably good accuracy for monthly rainfall forecasting.展开更多
