Its structure and working prin- ciple is discussed. The four tracked-units are controlled independently and driven cooperatively. By means of two DC motors being controlled respectively, one tracked-unit can accomplish two types of driving mode: tracked travel and in- tegral unit legged rotation (IULR), forming a track-legged compound function mechanism. Its capabilities of surmount- ing obstacles and its toppling stability in underground mines have also been analyzed. The results show that the mobile mechanism can directly surmount an obstacle of the height less than the length of one tracked-unit and get across a raceway with a span less than the length of one tracked-unit by using tracked travel and IULR. Its unstable slope angle is 51.3°. Toppling stability is determined by its structural size, moving direction and slope angle. IULR of four tracked-units can adjust the robot’s posture and then enhance toppling stability or assist in surmounting obstacles. Its track-legged compound function mechanism makes it suitable for working in underground mines.展开更多

The complexity caused by non-linearity makes it difficult to solve the problem of module motion planning and shape-changing control with the traditional algorithm. In this paper, a full-discrete metamorphic algorithm is proposed. The modules concurrently process the local sensing information, update their eigenvector, and act by the same predetermined logical rules. Then a reasonable motion sequence for modules and the global metamorphosis can be obtained. Therefore, the complexity of metamorphic algorithm is reduced, the metamorphic procedure is simplified, and the self-organizing metamorphosis can be obtained. The algorithm cases of several typical systems are studied and evaluated through simulation program of 2-D planar homogeneous modular systems.展开更多

This method can make the production fast and effective at small series or frequent manufacturing changes. The shop-floor control method, presented in this paper, offers a solution for the facing problem of fast and easy reconfiguration. The hardware of the controller designed modular with software components for online configuration. This solution allows sensor integration on different levels for every part of the manufacturing cell. With unified programming language and the machine specific controllers (post-processing) the cells can be defined easily by different types of human-machine interaction. The shop-floor control architecture is implemented and validated on an Adept SCARA (selective compliance assembly robot arm) robot. The robot is driven by standalone, low-level, interchangeable, software and hardware components.展开更多
