Ye explains jade as a mystical witchcraft which has a sacred power for the ancient people. Because the jade is produced in the water, and has the similar color with the sky, both of which have significance for the origin of life, jade is thus considered to be the origin of power. The notion of jade-god gave birth to the civilization in ancient China and triggered competition among the settlements, which in turn, advanced the development of civilization.

On the Three Themes of Heart of Darkness

Heart of Darkness is one of the masterpieces of Joseph Conrad （1857-1924）, which shows the author＇s great humanity and his unreserved horror at the crimes committed by the colonists and imperialists all over the world. This thesis tries to analyze its three themes： the Colonists＇ material essence, the dark side of human nature, and the disillusionment of civilization. Kurtz, the main character in the novel, is characterized by his greed for material gain and power. The dark side of human nature is reflected in Kurtz＇s cruel behavior towards the natives, his sense of superiority to the marginalized, and his dominance in discourse over the colonial people. The Role of the Forest in German Literature： From the Medieval Forest to the Griines Band

This paper demonstrates how much the forest was used by medieval writers as a symbolic space where critical events take place deeply affecting their protagonists. The forest motif can be found in the works of St. Augustine as well as in Dante＇s Divina Commedia （ca. 1308-1321）, and then in a plethora of other texts. Here the author examines more closely the symbolic meaning of the forest as a mysterious, dangerous, yet also spiritual location in Wolfram von Eschenbach＇s Titurel （ca. 1220） and then in two 15th-century prose novels： Thtiring von Ringoltingen＇s Melusine （1456） and the anonymous Fortunatus （1509）. Each time we recognize how much the poets placed their central figures one in the forest where their life takes a major turn. Recognizing this intriguing function of the forest as a metaphor and symbol, we can employ the modern interest in and fascination with the forest as a refuge from the destruction of the natural environment through modem civilization as segue to attract students to the study of medieval literature once again.

The time has come to recognize the extreme importance of the archaeological sites in Jordan. They provide a wealth evidence and precise information regarding ancient civilizations and cultures. The safeguarding of this cultural heritage is one of the most urgent priorities, that involve the proper conservation and preservation methods of all artifacts and buildings that have an important artistic and historic value. Conservation is a whole field in regarding the care and treatment of valuable artifacts, both movable and immovable. It has two aspects： （1） the control of the environment--to minimize the decay of artifacts and materials and （2） the treatment of these--in order to stop or slow down any deterioration and to stabilize them where possible against further dilapidation. The museum environment is a limited space dedicated not only to exhibition but also to the appropriate conservation of works of art. This article presents an overview of the types of damage and deterioration that air pollution causes to indoor cultural heritage materials and monuments. It identifies the main damaging air pollutants from outdoor sources to be sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone and sulphide gases.

Energy has needs in every sector all over the world, such as transportation, industrial development, home heating, and electricity production and in our daily life. Till now most of the energy production depends on the crude oil sources but in our planet the crude oil sources are limited. There is a probability that once these energy sources may come to an end, it could cause disastrous collapse of the human civilization considering the future fade of this universe scientist and researchers all over the world had been doing research for new alternate energy sources like solar energy, wind energy, bio-fuel etc. Plastics are produced mainly from crude oil. Incomprehensible amount of plastic bags are consumed every year all over the world and after use the discarded plastics bags become a severe problems to the natural environment. Dumping of these waste plastics create hazardous land fill problems, to avoid this problem transport of plastic waste to landfill cost $2800/ton. A new simple and cost effective technology has been developed for the conversion of the waste plastics into low sulfur diesel fuel. This developed technology can convert most types of waste plastic into low sulfur diesel fuel.
