Brain injuries vary by name, type, and severity in the athletic setting. It should be noted, however, that these injuries are not isolated to only the athletic arena, as non-athletic mechanisms (e.g., motor vehicle accidents) are more common causes of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) among teenagers. Notwithstanding, as many as 1.6 to 3.8 million TBI result from sports and recreation each year in the United States alone. These injuries are extremely costly to the global health care system, and make TBI among the most expensive conditions to treat in children. This article serves to define common brain injuries in sport; describe their prevalence, what happens to the brain following injury, how to recognize and manage these injuries, and what you can expect as the athlete recovers. Some return-to-activity considerations for the brain-injured athlete will also be discussed.展开更多

The analytical results of direct numerical simulation indicate that the basic flow plays an important role in the drop coalescence on liquid-liquid interface. In the stratified two-phase flow field, the smaller droplets are difficult to drain the thin continuous film between the approaching droplets and bulk interfaces and eventually immerse into the trickling film to yield coalescence. They almost attain the velocity of their local surroundings. Moreover, the basic flow exerts a dominant influence on the motion of smaller droplet. The smaller droplets are easily entrained by the basic flow. On the contrary, the larger drop presents advantageous characteristics of coalescence due to its high velocity. The range of 0.3 mm < δR≤ 0.75 mm is the advantageous drop coalescence condition since the rapidly varied velocity and its first derivative theoretically cause the forces acting on a drop to become imbalanced. On the other hand, the thin layer of the continuous phase drained from the interval between the drops and trickling film should not be neglected in the calculation of shearing force since it is important for drop rotation. The drop rotation is an indispensable factor in coalescence.展开更多

What leisure and sport bring to people is bound to be a civilized, healthy, happy, and new life patterns. Throughout the development of sports and leisure history, we can see that in the era of leisure sports agricultural, civilization reflects a more casual game. Strictly speaking, leisure sport is a product of the birth of modern industrial civilization. But today, it has become a recreational sport entirely necessities of life, recreation is the ultimate ownership of human beings, but also one of the best state of human existence, and therefore we have reason to believe that in the near future, leisure Sports will bring a self-liberation and ultimate human freedom.展开更多

The proteome of muscle tissue will be affected by exercise and resting. This is of economic importance for pork quality where transportation relates to exercise of untrained muscles. Rest reverses exercise effects. The objective of this research was to develop potential protein biomarkers that predict the optimal resting time after exercise related to optimal pork quality. Ten litters of four female pigs were within litter allocated to the four treatment groups: exercise by running on a treadmill for 27 minutes followed by rest for 0, 1, or 3 h; control pigs without exercise. Proteome profiles and biochemical traits measuring energy metabolism and meat quality traits expected to be related to exercise were determined in the Longissimus and the Biceps femoris of the pigs. The results indicated associations between protein abundances in muscles and exercise, resting, and biochemical traits.展开更多

Methods: Endotoxin from E.Coil of 5.0 mg/kg or saline of 1 ml/kg was injected into the femoral vein. The rats were sacrificed pre injection and 1, 3, 5, 8 hours after injection, and plasma and liver tissue samples were collected respectively. The liver tissue samples were used for preparation of mitochondria and submitochondrial particles (SMPs). The proton translocation of SMPs and H + ATPase, phospholipase A 2 (PLA 2) activities and malondialdehyde (MDA) content, membrane fluidities of different level of mitochondria membrane and plasma MDA content were assayed. Results: (1) Five hours after E. Coli. O111B4 injection, the maximum fluorescence quenching ACMA after adding ATP, nicotinamide adenin dinucleoacid hydrogen (NADH), and the succinate were significantly decreased (P< 0.05 ). The time of maximum fluorescent quenching and the half time of fluorescent quenching were significantly prolonged (P< 0.01 ), especially when NADH was used as a substrate. (2) The mitochondrial H + ATPase activity was significantly increased at early stage of endotoxic shock (P< 0.05 ), and significantly decreased at late stage of endotoxic shock (P< 0.01 ). (3) The mitochondrial membrane bound PLA 2 activity, plasmal and mitochondrial MDA content were significantly increased and succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) activity of mitochondria decreased markedly in endotoxic shock rats (P< 0.05 ). (4) The mitochondrial membrane fluidity of different lipid regions was decreased, especially in the head of phospholipid. Conclusions: Proton transportation across IMM and mitochondrial H + ATPase activity are significantly decreased in endotoxic shock.展开更多
