This met...Objective MicroRNA plays a vital role in gene expression, and microRNA dysregulation is involved in carcinogenesis. The miR- 196a-2 polymorphism rs11614913 is reportedly associated with cancer susceptibility. This meta-analysis was performed to assess the overall association of miR-196a-2 with cancer risk. Methods A total of 27 independent case-control studies involving 10,435 cases and 12,075 controls were analyzed for the rs11614913 polymorphism. Results A significant association was found between rs11614913 polymorphism and cancer risk in four genetic models (CT vs. TT, OR-1.15, 95%CI=1.05-1.27; CC vs. TT, OR=1.23, 95%CI=1.08-1.39; Dominant model, OR=1.17, 95%CI=1.06-1.30; Additive model, OR-1.08, 95%CI=1.01-1.14). In the subgroup analysis of different tumor types, the C allele was associated with increased risk of lung, breast, and colorectat cancer, but not with liver, gastric, or esophageal cancer. In the subgroup analysis by ethnicity, a significantly increased risk of cancer was found among Asians in all genetic models, but no associations were found in the Caucasian subgroup. Conclusions The meta-analysis demonstrated that the miR-196a-2 polymorphism is associated with cancer susceptibility, especially lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and breast cancer among Asian populations.展开更多
Objective:Previous reports have shown that the gene promoter region of retinoic acid receptor β(RARβ) was hypermethylated in cervical carcinoma,implying the inhibition of gene transcription.The aim of this study was...Objective:Previous reports have shown that the gene promoter region of retinoic acid receptor β(RARβ) was hypermethylated in cervical carcinoma,implying the inhibition of gene transcription.The aim of this study was to investigate the association of cervical cancer development with the RARβ gene expression at the mRNA and protein level to assess the impact of RARβ as a marker for early detection of the cancer.Methods:We collected 126 cases of formalin fixed and paraffin embedded cervical tissue specimens as well as 37 cases of fresh tissue samples from women with cervicitis,cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN) and cervical squamous cell carcinoma(CSCC).The RARβ mRNA and protein expression was detected by quantitative RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry,respectively.Results:(1) The mRNA expression of RARβ in CIN and cervical cancer was markedly decreased compared to cervicitis with a statistically very significant difference,but no difference was found between CIN and cervical cancer.(2) RARβ protein was normally expressed in the epithelial cells of cervicitis and partially lost in a few cases,but with the development of cervical lesion pathogenesis and cancer,a significant loss of protein expression was detected in CIN(38%) and CSCC(57%) compared to cervicitis(P < 0.01).Conclusion:The downregulation of RARβ transcription or loss of protein expression is an important indicator of cervical cancer and its precursur lesions.The detection of RARβ expression coupled with aberrant methylation of the gene may become a biomarker for the early prognosis or diagnosis of the cancer.展开更多

The language is closely related to Dani, Walak, and Nggem. It is an SOV language typology that has a complex morphological system. Four spatial dimensions are morphosyntactically coded in elevative deixis, which are steepness/non-steepness distinction, proximity/distality distinction, adverbial/attributive expressions, and vertical/horizontal plane. Melanotic medullary carcinoma is extremely rare. We described a 35-year-old man who was found swelling in the left neck accidently, and no clinic evidences. A left total and right subtotal thyroidectomy and neck lymph...Melanotic medullary carcinoma is extremely rare. We described a 35-year-old man who was found swelling in the left neck accidently, and no clinic evidences. A left total and right subtotal thyroidectomy and neck lymph nodes dissection were done. Lymph nodes metastasis was not shown. Postoperative of four months, computerized tomography scan liver showed multiple focal lesion. Microscopic examination showed that abundant melanin pigmentation was observed in many of tumor cells. Tumor cells were diffusely immunopositive for vimentin, CK, CgA, syn, CEA, Calcitonin, HMB45, S-100 and negative for TG, TTF-1. Melanotic medullary carcinoma is very rare. It is necessary to report more cases for exact biological behavior and prognosis.展开更多
