The parameters included void fraction, interfacial concentration, bubble size distribution, bubble frequency and bubble interface velocity. The authors paid special attention to the probe design and construction for minimizing measurement errors. Measures were also taken in the design of sensor ends for preventing corrosions in the flow. This is an effort to improve the current double-sensor probe technique to meet the ever-increasing needs to local parameter measurements in gas-liquid two-phase flows.展开更多

Accurate and adequate translation of web pages can enhance the enterprises' competitiveness. This paper focuses on the features of Chinese and Western web pages of garment enterprises and the translation strategy with the guidance of mass communication theory. Results illustrate that Chinese texts favor symmetrical phrases rich in cultural connotation, whereas English texts prefer plain language with fewer culture-loaded expressions and the latter focuses more on the feeling of audiences. As a result, audience-oriented translation strategy is strongly recommended so as to maximize the communication effect of the enterprise web pages展开更多

Public institutions tend to make available to the public, more data and information concerning the administration, the manner of use of public goods and resources. At the same time, each institution is called upon to deal with the demand of transparency and participation by citizens who increasingly use Internet 2.0 and social media. After a reflection on how public administrations acted in the phase of Web 1.0 to practice transparency and accountability in terms of communication, this paper considers the elements of continuity and the new opportunities linked to the advent of Web 2.0 and open data. At the end of this analysis, the focus is on the strengths and weaknesses of this process, with a particular attention to the role of the public communication.展开更多

Ammonium is one of the major inorganic nitrogen forms for root uptake. The homeostasis of ammonium in the plant cell is under tight control to prevent ammonium toxicity when in excess. In the ammonium sig- naling pathway, internal and external ammonium can be de- tected by specific sensors, which in turn triggers a series of proper plant ammonium responses including transcription regulation and phosphorylation. Ammonium absorption is mainly mediated by the root-located ammonium transporters, which are key regulators in the nitrogen signaling pathway. Many researchers have attempted to unravel the mechanisms of ammonium uptake by the transporters. Fine-tuned modulation of ammonium homeostasis is necessary to main- tain an appropriate level of ammonium in the cytoplasm, which is a balance of ammonium efflux, assimilation and compartmentation. Recently, there has been important pro- gress in revealing the ammonium sensing and signaling mechanisms. First, air overpressure is generated in- side the lower vocal tract...Vocal communication is a crucial aspect of animal behavior. The mechanism which most mam- mals use to vocalize relies on three anatomical components. First, air overpressure is generated in- side the lower vocal tract. Second, as the airstream goes through the glottis, sound is produced via vocal fold vibration. Third, this sound is further filtered by the geometry and length of the upper vocal tract. Evidence from mammalian anatomy and bioacoustics suggests that some of these three components may covary with an animal's body size. The framework provided by acoustic al- Iometry suggests that, because vocal tract length (VTL) is more strongly constrained by the growth of the body than vocal fold length (VFL), VTL generates more reliable acoustic cues to an animal's size. This hypothesis is often tested acoustically but rarely anatomically, especially in pinnipeds. Here, we test the anatomical bases of the acoustic allometry hypothesis in harbor seal pups Phoca vitulina. We dissected and measured vocal tract, vocal folds, and other anatomical features of 15 harbor seals post-mortem. We found that, while VTL correlates with body size, VFL does not. This suggests that, while body growth puts anatomical constraints on how vocalizations are filtered by harbor seals' vocal tract, no such constraints appear to exist on vocal folds, at least during puppy- hood. It is particularly interesting to find anatomical constraints on harbor seals' vocal tracts, the same anatomical region partially enabling pups to produce individually distinctive vocalizations.展开更多

The non-local region texture or structure of the image has the characteristics of repetition, which can be used to effectively preserve the edge and detail of the image. And compared with classical methods, bilateral filtering method has a better performance in denosing for the reason that the weight includes the geometric closeness factor and the intensity similarity factor. We combine the geometric closeness factor with the weight of non-local means, and construct a new weight. Experimental results show that the modified algorithm can achieve better performance. And it can protect the image detail and structure information better.展开更多

Based on many advantages of the optical fiber sensing technology, we have done some research on fiber optics Fabry-Perot (FP) sensing which can be useful for the transformer on online partial discharge monitoring. This research aimed at improving the reliability of power system safety monitoring. We have done some work as follows: designing a set for fiber optics FP sensor preparation, according to the fabrication procedure strictly making out the sensors, building a reasonable signal demodulation system for fiber optics FP sensing, doing a preliminary analysis about online partial discharge signal monitoring, including the research on different discharge intensities with the same measuring distance and different measuring distances with the same discharge intensity, and then making a detailed analysis of the experimental results.展开更多
