The approach is moderately simple to implement and use without loss of performance. It is trained by optimizing the hyperparameters using the scaled conjugate gradient algorithm with the squared exponential covariance function employed. Experimental simulations show that the soft sensor modeling approach has the advantage via a real-world example in a refinery. Meanwhile, the method opens new possibilities for application of kernel methods to potential fields.展开更多

Bio-inspired chemical engineering(Bio Ch E)may be recognized as a significant branch of chemical engineering. It may consist of, but not limited to, the following three aspects: 1) Chemical engineering principles and unit operations in biological systems; 2) Process engineering principles for producing existing or developing new chemical products through living ‘devices';and 3) Chemical engineering processes and equipment that are designed and constructed through mimicking(does not have to reproduce one hundred percent) the biological systems including their physical–chemical and mechanical structures to deliver uniquely beneficial performances. This may also include the bio-inspired sensors for process monitoring. In this paper, the above aspects are defined and discussed which establishes the scope of BioChE.展开更多

The ubiquitous sensor networks are widely de- ployed in factory auttxnation as they provide effective measuring solution for instruments. The wired/wireless network module, which provides the interface to connect to the u-sensor network, is needed but there is no perfect standardization about the interface. In this situation, the interface compatibility between measuring instrument can be maintained using the IEEEI451 international standard. In this paper, the Wireless Transducer Interface Mcduie (WTIM) based on IEEE1451.5 was designed. It coxnects to the measuring instnmnt, like the muiti-meter, power meter, and etc., to support the RS232 interface. As these devices cannot connect to network without a mod- ule, we use the WTIM to help these devices connect to network sys- ton. Its ftmction was verified through the ubiquitous network connection and data transfer between monitoring PC and measuring instrument. This technology is expected to reduce cost in order to construct the wireless industry automation system using existing devices.展开更多

Hydrogen leakage monitoring is very dangerous and important because of its low ignition energy, high combustion efficiency, and smallest molecule. This paper reviews the state-of-art development of the fiber optic hydrogen sensing technology. The main developing trends of fiber optic hydrogen sensors are based on two kinds of hydrogen sensitive materials, i.e. palladium-alloy thin films and Pt-doped WO3 coatings. In this review work, the advantages and disadvantages of these two kinds of sensing technologies will be evaluated.展开更多
