The secondary flow distribution of the fluid in the shell-side channel is focused on. The results on meridian planes indicate that in the shell-side channel, the center part of fluid has an outward tendency because of the centrifugal force, and the peripheral region fluid has an inward tendency under the centripetal force. So in a spiral cycle, the fluid is divided into the upper and lower beams of streamlines, at the same time the Dean vortices are formed near the left baffle, and then the fluid turns to centripetal flow near the right baffle. Finally the two beams of streamlines merge in the main flow. The results of a number of parallel slices between two parallel baffles with the same sector in a swirl cycle also show the existence of the secondary flow and some backward flows at the V-gaps of the adjacent baffles. The secondary flows have a positive effect on mixing fluid by promoting the momentum and mass exchange between fluid particles near the tube wall and in the main stream, and thus they will enhance the heat transfer of the helix heat exchanger.展开更多

The new structure can sleeve the tubes in bundle alternatively to create a vortex flow in a heat exchanger. The numerical simulation on the flow and heat transfer characteristics for this new structure heat exchanger is conducted. The computational domain consists of two strip-coil sleeved tubes and two bare tubes oppositely placed at each comer of a square. The velocity and temperature fields in such strip-coil-baffled channel are simulated using FLUENT software. The effects of the strip-coil-baffles on heat transfer enhancement and flow resistance in relation to the Reynolds number are analyzed. The results show that this new structure bundle can enhance the heat transfer coefficient up to a range of 40% to 55% in comparison with a bare tube bundle; meanwhile, higher flow resistance is also accompanied. It is believe that the strip-coil- baffled heat exchanger should have promising applications in many industry fields.展开更多

The investigation has been conducted in the heat exchanger tube inserted with various twisted-tape numbers for co- and counter-twist arrangements for the turbulent air flow, Reynolds number (Re) from 5300 to 24000. The typical single twisted-tape inserts at two twist ratios, y/w = 4 and 5, are used as the base case, while the other multiple twisted-tape inserts are aty/w = 4 only. The experimental results of heat transfer and pressure drop in terms of Nusselt number (Nu) and friction factor 00, respectively, reveal that Nu increases with the increment of Re and of twisted-tape number. The values of Nu for the inserted tube are in a range of 1.15-2.12 times that for the plain tube while f is 1.9-4.1 times. The thermal enhancement factor of the inserted tube under similar pumping power is evaluated and found to be above unity except for the single and the double co-twisted tapes. The quadruple counter-twisted tape insert provides the maximum thermal performance.展开更多

文摘Heat transfer enhancement in vertical tubes plays an important role on the thermal performance of many heat exchangers and thermal devices. In this work, laminar mixed convection of airflow in a vertical dimpled tube was numerically investigated.Three-dimensional elliptical governing equations were solved using the finite-volume technique. For a given dimpled pitch, the effects of three different dimple heights(h/D=0.013,0.027,0.037) have been studied at different Richardson numbers(0.1,1.0 and 1.5).The generated vortex in the vicinity of the dimple destructs the thermal boundary layer and enhances the heat transfer. Therefore, lower wall temperature is seen where the dimples are located.Fluid flow velocity at the near-wall region significantly increases because of buoyancy forces with the increase of Richardson numbers.Such an acceleration at the near-wall region makes the dimples more effective at higher Richardson number.Using a dimpled tube enhances the heat transfer coefficient. However, the pressure drop is not important. For instance,in the case of Ri=1.5 and h/D=0.037,20% gains in the heat transfer enhancement only costs2.5% in the pressure loss.In general,it is recommended using a dimpled tube where the effects of buoyancy forces are important.

文摘Miniaturization of electronic equipment has forced researchers to devise more effective methods for dissipating the generated heat in these devices. In this study, two methods, including porous media inserting and adding nanoparticles to the base fluid, are used to improve heat transfer in an annulus heated on both walls. To study porous media insert, porous ribs are used on the outer and inner walls independently. The results show that when porous ribs are placed on the outer wall, although the heat transfer enhances, the pressure drop increment is so considerable that performance number (the ratio of heat transfer enhancement pressure increment,PN) is less than unity for all porous rib heights and porous media permeabilities that are studied. On the other hand, the PN of cases where porous ribs were placed on the inner wall depends on the Darcy number (Da).For example, for ribs with Da=0.1 and Da=0.0001,the maximum performance number,PN=4,occurs at the porous ribs height to hydraulic diameter ratios H/Dh=1 and H/Dh=0.25.Under these conditions, heat transfer is enhanced by two orders of magnitude. It is found that adding 5% nanoparticles to the base fluid in the two aforementioned cases improves the Nusselt number and PN by 10%–40%.
文摘The backward-facing step is a critical problem existing in many engineering and industrial applications. In this study,a semi-porous baffle(the root of the baffle is a porous medium and the tip is solid) is placed behind the step. The effects of the length of the porous part, and the baffle location on the energy transfer and pressure drop are studied in different Reynolds numbers(Re=100,200,300,400,500).The effect of the Darcy number of the porous medium on the aforementioned parameters is also investigated. Both the local maximum and average relative Nusselt numbers(divided by the Nusselt of the base case with no baffle at the same Reynolds) and relative pressure drop(calculated as the relative Nusselt number) are reported. The results show that by adoption of the proper length of the porous medium, the average relative and maximum local Nusselt numbers could be enhanced by 20% and 90%,respectively.Low permeable porous media give better energy transfer. For example, porous media with Da=10^(-5) give 30% better maximum local Nusselt number and about 7% higher average Nusselt number with respect to the same case with Da=10^(-2).

文摘The flow field and heat transfer of the strip surface due to the twin slot vertical jet impingement were investigated using the ANSYS FLUENT.The RNG k-ε model was carried out in the turbulent calculation.Systematic parametric research was conducted by varying the jet velocity of nozzle exit(V=5 m/s,7.5 m/s,10 m/s),the temperature of cooling water(T_w=280 K,300 K),the normalized spacing from the nozzle to the strip surface(H=10,15,20,33),and the normalized spacing from the nozzle to nozzle centerline(W=0,15,30).The velocity streamline of the flow domain and the general trend of the distribution of the local Nusselt number on the impingement surface of strip were obtained. The result indicate that, the average Nusselt number increases by about70%(90%) as the jet velocity is increased from 5 m/s to 7.5 m/s(from 7.5 m/s to 10 m/s),and T_w,Hand//have minimal effect on it.While the valley Nusselt number decreases by about 10%-43%with the increase of H and W.The functional relationship between the average Nusselt number and the systematic parameters is derived by the least square regression method.
文摘The aim of this study is to use a new configuration of porous media in a heat exchanger in continuous hydrothermal flow synthesis(CHFS)system to enhance the heat transfer and minimize the required length of the heat exchanger. For this purpose, numerous numerical simulations are performed to investigate performance of the system with porous media.First, the numerical simulation for the heat exchanger in CHFS system is validated by experimental data. Then, porous media is added to the system and six different thicknesses for the porous media are examined to obtain the optimum thickness, based on the minimum required length of the heat exchanger. Finally,by changing the flow rate and inlet temperature of the product as well as the cooling water flow rate, the minimum required length of the heat exchanger with porous media for various inlet conditions is assessed. The investigations indicate that using porous media with the proper thickness in the heat exchanger increases the cooling rate of the product by almost 40% and reduces the required length of the heat exchanger by approximately 35%.The results also illustrate that the most proper thickness of the porous media is approximately equal to 90% of the product tube's thickness. Results of this study lead to design a porous heat exchanger in CHFS system for various inlet conditions.

文摘The paper presents an experimental investigation on enhanced heat transfer and pressure loss characteristics by using single, double, triple, and quadruple twisted-tape inserts in a round tube having a uniform heat-fluxed wall. The quadruple counter-twisted tape insert provides the maximum thermal performance.
文摘The 3-D numerical computation of the flow and temperature fields for jet array impingement with initial crossflow investigates the effects of the jet-to-surface spacing, the impinging hole arrangement and the jet-to-crossflow mass flux ratio on heat transfer characteristics. The study shows that: (1) under the different jet-to-surface spacing, the impingement cooling with inline arrangement is better than that with staggered arrangement for a given jet-to-crossflow mass flux ratio;( 2 ) the value of jet-to-surface spacing impacts a complicated effect on the flow and heat transfer for jet array impingement; (3) as the ratio of crossflow-to-jet mass flux ratio increases, the cooling effectiveness on monotonous decrease for both inline and staggered arrangements at the same jet-to-surface spacing.

文摘An experimental study was conducted to investigate the fouling process of calcium carbonate on the heat transfer surface, during forced convective heat transfer. The dynamic monitoring apparatus of fouling resistance was set up for the present experiments. The fouling behavio(s were examined under different factors including fluid velocity, hardness, alkalinity, solution temperature, and wall temperature. Asymptotic fouling curves varying with time were obtained. The fouling rate and asymptotic fouling resistance increased and the induction periods were shortened with the fluid velocity decreasing, hardness andalkalinity increasing, and solution temperature and heat transfer surface temperature increasing. Thecomponents of fouling that formed on the heat transfer surface included crystallization fouling and particulate fouling. The thermal performance parameter of fouling,ρfhf, varied from 380 to 2600 kg·W·(m^4·K)^-1, increasing with growing velocity and decreasing solution temperature, hardness or alkalinity. Furthermore, the thermal conductivity of fouling, λf, varied from 1.7 to 2.2 W·(m·K)^-1 .
