The possibility of applying the basic theory of symbolic dynamics to the measurement is presented and proved. Then, the theoretical model of chaotic transducer is realized by using the switched capacitor and the basic experimental results are given. The transducer has such characters as high sensitivity, resolution, the simple structure and combining signal amplification with A/D. The new area of the application of chaos is exploited. Meanwhile, it provides a new method of exploring the structure of new type transducer.展开更多

Scott (2000) stresses the requirement of aesthetic and semiotic content in a creative product, instead of creativity. But, how many of retailers and salespersons in heritage product believe the semiotic as knowledge to present the product and opportunities in their selling? According to Kotler (2000) a good personal selling will provide a detailed explanation or demonstration of the product. The message can be varied by the salesperson to fit the motivations and interests or each prospective customer. So, the purpose of this paper is to closely examine the level of awareness among retailers and salesperson toward the important of semiotic knowledge as part of strategic persuasion in a selling process. This survey study will develop a sample among retailers and salesperson in Kuala Terengganu as a respondent who give the feedback to fulfill the research questions.展开更多
Multi-sensor image registration has been widely used in remote sensing and medical image field, but registration performance is degenerated when heterogeneous images are involved. An image registration method based on...Multi-sensor image registration has been widely used in remote sensing and medical image field, but registration performance is degenerated when heterogeneous images are involved. An image registration method based on multi-resolution shape analysis is proposed in this paper, to deal with the problem that the shape of similar objects is always invariant. The contours of shapes are first detected as visual features using an extended contour search algorithm in order to reduce effects of noise, and the multi-resolution shape descriptor is constructed through Fourier curvature representation of the contour’s chain code. Then a minimum distance function is used to judge the similarity between two contours. To avoid the effect of different resolution and intensity distribution, suitable resolution of each image is selected by maximizing the consistency of its pyramid shapes. Finally, the transformation parameters are estimated based on the matched control-point pairs which are the centers of gravity of the closed contours. Multi-sensor Landsat TM imagery and infrared imagery have been used as experimental data for comparison with the classical contour-based registration. Our results have been shown to be superior to the classical ones.展开更多

The extensive and originally hermetic literary work, when re-created for television, became difficult to understand, resulting in poor reception by the public - though highly praised by reviewers - compared to works in the same format and time of exhibition. In this study, the author proposes a reflection, in the light of semiotic and communication theories, in order to understand the relationship between the work and the viewer. The analysis takes into account especially the options of the expression plan as well as the closeness that the audiovisual narrative maintains with the literary work. The conclusion reached is that the introduction of the elements of the enunciation - person, time and place - inherited from the novel, as well as expressive options like camera movements, light, prosody and gesture, impart an excessively accelerated rhythm, which interferes in the understanding of the work and in its consequent reception.展开更多
