Faced with the problems of lack of special varieties, highly demand for healthy oil and high production cost in rapeseed production in recent years, the breeding goals of rapeseed have been adjusted from high yield, high quality and disease resistance to high oil, high oleic acid, adaptative to mechanization, late planting resistance. The breeding technologies mainly focused on the isolated microspore culture, molecular marker assisted selection, and the corresponding high efficiency technical systems were constructed. The innovative research on excellent germplasm resources were carried on, which created and established breeding populations and distinctive new germplasm resources with diverse variations such as high oil content, high oleic acid content and low linolenic acid, cold resistance, drought resistance, pod shatter resistance and different flower color variations. A series of rapeseed hybrids of dou- ble low varieties with strong heterosis and high oil contents were released and these hybrids significantly improved seed yield, quality and resistance. The average yield of rapeseed in Henan Province was 22.49% higher than the national average yield in 2003-2015. All of the achievements provided strong technical support for the upgrading of rapeseed varieties and increasing both production and income.展开更多

Among the total 69 fragments generated by 6 selected primers (among 50 primers), 67 appeared to be polymorphic (97.1%). Cluster analysis based on the RAPD results was performed. The 15 Porphyra lines were divided into 3 groups. This result was consistent with that from taxonomy analysis. A DNA fingerprinting based on 8 bands amplified with OPN_02 and OPJ_18 was constructed and might be used in Porphyra variety identification. Five specific RAPD fragments of 5 Porphyra lines were isolated and cloned into pGEM_T easy vector. These five RAPD fragments may be useful in germplasm identification and property protection of Porphyra .展开更多

[Method] Nine main commercial rapeseed cultivars in Guizhou were detected by 40 pairs of SSR primers used in the national regional trial of B. napus, and then clus-tering analysis was carried out. [Result] A total of 191 bands were amplified, and 143 (accounting for 75%) of them showed polymorphism among the nine rapeseed cultivars. By cluster analysis, the nine cultivars were divided into two groups. Group A included seven varieties, and group B consisted of two cultivars from Guizhou In-stitute of Oil Crops. The cultivars in group A were further divided into sub-groups A1 and A2 at the similarity coefficient of 0.643 4. Sub-group A1 included three culti-vars from Guizhou Rapeseed Institute, and sub-group A2 included the other four cultivars from Guizhou Institute of Oil Crops. [Conclusion] The cultivars bred by the same institute had similar genetic background. The cultivars from Guizhou Institute of Oil Crops showed wider genetic basis. However, the genetic similarity coefficient between Qianyou 17 and Qianyou 29 was up to 0.87, suggesting that they shared closer genetic basis.展开更多

The result showed that (i) the general combining ability (GCA) of male parents was R3>R2>R1 and that of female parents was A4>A1>A2>A5>A3; (i ) the special combining ability (SCA) of A2×R3 in plant height, number of branches, number of pods per plant and yield per plant was the best. The yield per plant of A2×R3, A1×R1 and A2×R1 ranked the first three places in the 15 combinations; (i i) the broad heritability of yield per plant was the highest, and that of the height of branches was the lowest. The com-prehensive characters of R3, A2 and A4 were better, which could be used to create new materials; (iv) good offspring were more likely to be chosen from the combina-tion with higher parental GCA, so the GCA and SCA should be considered com-prehensively when choosing parent and determining the optimal combinations.展开更多

The percent of polymorphic loci within the enzymes was 59.1%. The genetic diversity at the species level and at the population level was high ( H es =0.210; H ep =0.199, respectively), whereas the extent of the population divergence was relatively low ( G ST =0.074). F IS , a measure of the deviation from random mating within the 19 populations, was 0.331 . An indirect estimate of the number of migrants per generation ( N m =3.15) indicates that gene flow is high among Korean populations of the species. In addition, analysis of fixation indices revealed a slight heterozygote deficiency in some populations and at some loci. The mean genetic identity between populations was 0.985. It is highly probable that the trend of genetic uniformity in a relatively homogeneous habitat is thought to be operated among Korean populations of P. fragarioides var. sprengeliana .展开更多

It often forms large-scale seaweed beds in subtidal zones. This investigation was designed to understand the intraspecific genetic relationships of this alga based on samples collected from four northern coastal sites of China, and to evaluate gamete release and growth capacity in laboratory conditions. The nuclear internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) sequences of 16 samples from four locations were identical. Based on cox3 gene and partial rbcLS operon sequences, intraspecific genetic variability was detected with three and two ribotypes, respectively. Temperature, not irradiance, was shown to significantly affect gamete release and fertilization. Elevated temperature and irradiance enhanced the growth of germlings and vegetative branchlets. Maximum growth rate of germlings was detected at 18-24℃and an irradiance of 60-100 μmol photons/(m^2.s). Under ambient conditions (12-25℃ and 60-125 gmol photons/ (m2.s)), relative growth rate of young branchlets could reach 7.5%/d.展开更多

Local traditional varieties that are largely taken care of and nurtured by farmers' seed system have also been excluded from the formal seed system. Nowadays, however, it is quite common to see locally-sourced vegetables on supermarket shelves, while an increasing number of consumers visit farmers' market and become aware of local traditional vegetables available only through such channels. It is in this context that many local governments, public agricultural experimental stations and even private seed companies are becoming interested in the use and management of local traditional varieties of vegetables in Japan. The objective of this paper is to elucidate some characteristics of and factors behind the condition, potentiality and limitations of farmers' seed systems vis-a-vis the expected role of public experimental stations and locally-based seed companies, especially when it comes to the use and management of local traditional vegetables and their genetic resources in Japan. This paper is based on our case studies, in which we conducted in some interviews with relevant local actors in addition to literature and statistical surveys.展开更多

Of value are those that have the potential to ameliorate soil nutrient levels. This is with the background that despite inorganic fertilizers (IF) have a dramatic impact on agriculture in the world, the economic situation in Sub-Saharan African calls for alternative methods to reduce soil fertility degradation. The use of leguminous vegetables may be a solution. The study looks at the potential contribution of a leguminous traditional vegetable-- Crotalaria brevidens to soil nitrogen under various treatments. During the study which was conducted over two seasons, C. brevidens was grown under two treatments of IF and organic fertilizer (OF) with a control in which there was no fertilizer (NF) applied. A non-leguminous vegetable--Amaranthus dubious (Amaranth) was grown under the same treatments for comparison purposes. Soil analysis was done before and after planting in the treatment subplots. Growth parameters were measured every fortnight and these included leaf number, shoot length, dry weight and nodule number for Crotalaria. Results indicated that the leguminous vegetable was not affected by external inputs and there were no significant differences between treatments and control. The non-leguminous vegetables responded well to both IF and OF treatments in all the measured parameters. This underlines the potential for improving soil nitrogen levels using leguminous vegetables, especially as intercrops with the non-leguminous types.展开更多

The present work ascertain the effect of certain soil amendments against pre emergent and post emergent rot of French bean in the agro climatic condition of Manipur, Four soil amendments: cow dung (COD), sawdust (SD) + paddy husk (PH), decomposed floating phytomat (DFP) was tried in field conditions in four different combinations. These have been often used by the traditional farmers. A locally available commonly cultivated pole type of French bean has been used for the study. Disease incidences in plots treated with these amendments were then compared with that of control plots where no amendments were made. The plots with a combined treatment of the soil amendments showed maximum seed germination and least post emergent rot against sclerotinia rot. But DFP showed effectiveness against rhizoctonia rot with maximum seed germination while saw dust showed maximum decrease in post emergent rot against rhizoctonia rot. The plots treated with organic soil amendments showed statistically significant positive effect against the pathogens as compared with untreated control plots.展开更多

Potency of ethanol and ethyl acetate extract from brown seaweed (Sargassum duplicatum Bory) against indomethacin induced jejunum damage was evaluated in Rattus norvegicus. Control rats induced by corn oil orally. IBD rats induced by indomethacin of 15 mg/kg body weight (bw) orally and incubated for 7 days. Therapy rats were treated orally by brown seaweed extract of 100 mg/kg bw respectively for seven days. Based on phytochemistry test, Sargassum duplicatum Bory extract contains flavonoids, phlorotanin, and alkaloid. The result of preparative Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and Infra Red (IR) spectrum of extract spots showed the same result (function group similarity) with gallic acid standard as polyphenol. Sargassum duplicatum Bory extract decreased Malondialdehid (MDA) level (54.20%) significantly using Thiobarbituric Acid (TBA) assay, repaired ZO-1 and occludin protein expressions by immunohistochemistry and repaired jejunum damage by histological observation.展开更多
