The resu...A two-dimensional(2-D) incompressible plane jet is investigated using the lattice Boltzmann method(LBM) for low Reynolds numbers of 42 and 65 based on the jet-exit-width and the maximum jet-exit-velocity. The results show that the mean centerline velocity decays as x-1/3 and the jet spreads as x2/3 in the self-similar region, which are consistent with the theoretical predictions and the experimental data. The time histories and PSD analyses of the instantaneous centerline velocities indicate the periodic behavior and the interaction between periodic components of velocities should not be neglected in the far field region, although it is invisible in the near field region.展开更多

The experimental results show that, with the increase of the Dy content, the system undergoes a transition from long range ferromagnetic order to the cluster-spin glass state and further to antiferromagnetic order. For the samples with x=0.20 and 0.30, their magnetic behaviors are abnormal at low temperature, and their resistivities at low temperature have a minimum value. These peculiar phenomena not only come from the lattice effect induced by doping, but also from extra magnetic coupling induced by doping.展开更多

Although simple in math- ematical concept, the integration o...A wide range of quantum systems are time-invariant and the corresponding dynamics is dic- tated by linear differential equations with constant coefficients. Although simple in math- ematical concept, the integration of these equations is usually complicated in practice for complex systems, where both the computational time and the memory storage become limit- ing factors. For this reason, low-storage Runge-Kutta methods become increasingly popular for the time integration. This work suggests a series of s-stage sth-order explicit Runge- Kutta methods specific for autonomous linear equations, which only requires two times of the memory storage for the state vector. We also introduce a 13-stage eighth-order scheme for autonomous linear equations, which has optimized stability region and is reduced to a fifth-order method for general equations. These methods exhibit significant performance improvements over the previous general-purpose low-stage schemes. As an example, we ap- ply the integrator to simulate the non-Markovian exciton dynamics in a 15-site linear chain consisting of perylene-bisimide derivatives.展开更多
AIM: To study the core cell damage in isolated islets of Langerhans and its prevention by low temperature preconditioning (26 ℃).METHODS: Islets were cultured at 37 ℃ for 7-14 d after isolation, and then at 26 ℃ fo...AIM: To study the core cell damage in isolated islets of Langerhans and its prevention by low temperature preconditioning (26 ℃).METHODS: Islets were cultured at 37 ℃ for 7-14 d after isolation, and then at 26 ℃ for 2, 4 and 7 d before additional culture at 37 ℃ for another 7 d. Core cell damage in the isolated islets was monitored by video-microscopy and analyzed quantitatively by use of a computer-assisted image analysis system. The analysis included daily measurement of the diameter and the area of the isolated islets and the area of the core cell damage that developed in those islets over time during culture. Histology and TdT-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay were used to characterize the cell damage and to monitor islet function.RESULTS: Microscopic analysis showed that during the 7 to 14 d of culture at 37 ℃, core cell damage occurred in the larger islets with diameters >200 μm, which included both necrotic and apoptotic cell death. Low temperature (26 ℃) culture could prevent core cell damage of isolated islets. The 7-d culture procedure at 26 ℃ could inhibit most of the core cell (excluding diameters>300 μm) damages when the islets were re-warmed at 37 ℃.CONCLUSION: Our results indicate that core cell damage within isolated islets of Langerhans correlates with the size of islets. Low temperature (26 ℃) culture can prevent core cell damage in isolated islets, and successfully precondition these islets for incubation at 37 ℃. These novel findings may help to understand the pathophysiology of early loss of islet tissue after transplantation, and may provide a new strategy to improve graft function in the clinical setting of islet transplantation.展开更多
Based on the low energy QCD Lagrangian theory and the crossing symmetry relation, strange meson photoproduction and its associated radiative capture on the proton are investigated in the [SUSF(6) × O(3)]sym ....Based on the low energy QCD Lagrangian theory and the crossing symmetry relation, strange meson photoproduction and its associated radiative capture on the proton are investigated in the [SUSF(6) × O(3)]sym . × SUc(3) quark mode/of baryon structure with only one same input parameter, the only strong coupling constant aM. Calculations for the cross sections, p-polarization of γ + P → K^+ + A reaction and the branching ratios for K^- radiative capture of K^- + p → γ + Y with Y = A, ∑^0 are performed. Good agreements to data are obtained and the results show that, compared to traditional phenomenological models, the low energy QCD Lagrangian theory provides a successful, unifled description of the strange meson photo-production and its associated radiative capture.展开更多
Net primary productivity(NPP), a metric used to define and identify changes in plant communities, is greatly affected by climate change, human activities and other factors. Here, we used the Carnegie-Ames-Stanford App...Net primary productivity(NPP), a metric used to define and identify changes in plant communities, is greatly affected by climate change, human activities and other factors. Here, we used the Carnegie-Ames-Stanford Approach(CASA) model to estimate the NPP of plant communities in Hengduan Mountains area of China, and to explore the relationship between NPP and altitude in this region. We examined the mechanisms underlying vegetation growth responses to climate change and quantitatively assessed the effects of ecological protection measures by partitioning the contributions of climate change and human activities to NPP changes. The results demonstrated that: 1) the average total and annual NPP values over the years were 209.15 Tg C and 468.06 g C/(m2·yr), respectively. Their trend increasingly fluctuated, with spatial distribution strongly linked to altitude(i.e., lower and higher NPP in high altitude and low altitude areas, respectively) and 2400 m represented the marginal altitude for vegetation differentiation; 2) areas where climate was the main factor affecting NPP accounted for 18.2% of the total research area, whereas human activities were the primary factor influencing NPP in 81.8% of the total research area, which indicated that human activity was the main force driving changes in NPP. Areas where climatic factors(i.e., temperature and precipitation) were the main driving factors occupied 13.6%(temperature) and 6.0%(precipitation) of the total research area, respectively. Therefore, the effect of temperature on NPP changes was stronger than that of precipitation; and 3) the majority of NPP residuals from 2001 to 2014 were positive, with human activities playing an active role in determining regional vegetation growth, possibly due to the return of farmland back to forest and natural forest protection. However, this positive trend is decreasing. This clearly shows the periodical nature of ecological projects and a lack of long-term effectiveness.展开更多

To obtain the propagation characteristics of ship seismic waves, an algorithm for calculating Seismic waves at the seafloor is presented based on the staggered-grid finite difference method. The accuracy of the algorithm was tested by comparison with analytical solutions. Numerical simulation of seismic waves generated by a low-frequency point sotmd source in a typical shallow sea environment was carried out. Using various source frequencies and locations in the numerical simulation, we show that the seismic waves in the near field are composed mostly of transmitted S-waves and interface waves while transmitted P-waves are weak near the seafloor. However, in the far field, the wave components of the seismic wave are mainly normal modes and interface waves, with the latter being relatively strong in the waveforms, As the source frequency decreases, the normal modes become smaller and the interface waves dominate the time series of the seismic waves.展开更多

Low-dimensional materials have excellent properties which are closely related to their dimensionality.However,the growth mechanism underlying tunable dimensionality from 2D triangles to 1D ribbons of such materials is...Low-dimensional materials have excellent properties which are closely related to their dimensionality.However,the growth mechanism underlying tunable dimensionality from 2D triangles to 1D ribbons of such materials is still unrevealed.Here,we establish a general kinetic Monte Carlo model for transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs) growth to address such an issue.Our model is able to reproduce several key findings in experiments,and reveals that the dimensionality is determined by the lattice mismatch and the interaction strength between TMDs and the substrate.We predict that the dimensionality can be well tuned by the interaction strength and the geometry of the substrate.Our work deepens the understanding of tunable dimensionality of low-dimensional materials and may inspire new concepts for the design of such materials with expected dimensionality.展开更多
A new method of prefetching data blocks from the NVCache to the page cache in main memory and cascading prefetching n-blocks from a hard disk to the NVCache together was proposed to reduce the spin-up frequency of a h...A new method of prefetching data blocks from the NVCache to the page cache in main memory and cascading prefetching n-blocks from a hard disk to the NVCache together was proposed to reduce the spin-up frequency of a hybrid hard disk drive and thus enhance I/O performance.The proposed method consists of three steps:1) Analyzing the pattern of read requests in block units;2) Determining the number of blocks prefetched to the NVCache;3) Replacing blocks in the NVCache according to the block replacement policy.The proposed method can reduce the latency time of a hybrid hard disk and optimize the power consumption of an IPTV set-top box.Experimental results show that the proposed method provides better average response time compared to an existing adaptive multistream prefetching(AMP) method by 25.17%.It also reduces by 20.83% the average power consumption over that of the existing external caching in energy saving storage system(EXCES) method.展开更多

In this work, the authors analyze the deuteron-deuteron reactions within palladium lattice by means of the coherence theory of nuclear and condensed matter and, using this general theoretical framework accepted from "cold fusion scientists", it will be shown the low occurrence probability of fusion phenomena. This paper has developed a measurement approach that integrates price with the product technical content initiated by Lall et al.(2006),i.e.,dividing HS6-quantile products into high-end,middle-end and low-end levels t...This paper has developed a measurement approach that integrates price with the product technical content initiated by Lall et al.(2006),i.e.,dividing HS6-quantile products into high-end,middle-end and low-end levels through the quantile ranking of prices of the same product from different countries or regions in a target market.Our estimation has discovered that due to the lack of product price differentiation,traditional method for the measurement of product technical content overestimated technical content of the low-end segment in the same category of products while underestimated technical content of the high-end segment in the same category of products.Re-calculation based on Rodric's result indicates that specialness of Chinese exports is mainly reflected by high-end and middle-end products.In addition,the competition result of the sophistication of Chinese exports indicates that since the middle of the 1990 s,the sophistication of Chinese exports has remained relatively low compared with the average level of the world and developing countries;from an economic perspective,improvement in the sophistication of Chinese exports primarily derived from middle-end and low-end products;from a category-specific perspective,improvement in the sophistication of Chinese exports primarily derived from low-technology export products.展开更多

文摘Low-dimensional materials have excellent properties which are closely related to their dimensionality.However,the growth mechanism underlying tunable dimensionality from 2D triangles to 1D ribbons of such materials is still unrevealed.Here,we establish a general kinetic Monte Carlo model for transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs) growth to address such an issue.Our model is able to reproduce several key findings in experiments,and reveals that the dimensionality is determined by the lattice mismatch and the interaction strength between TMDs and the substrate.We predict that the dimensionality can be well tuned by the interaction strength and the geometry of the substrate.Our work deepens the understanding of tunable dimensionality of low-dimensional materials and may inspire new concepts for the design of such materials with expected dimensionality.

文摘A new method of prefetching data blocks from the NVCache to the page cache in main memory and cascading prefetching n-blocks from a hard disk to the NVCache together was proposed to reduce the spin-up frequency of a hybrid hard disk drive and thus enhance I/O performance.The proposed method consists of three steps:1) Analyzing the pattern of read requests in block units;2) Determining the number of blocks prefetched to the NVCache;3) Replacing blocks in the NVCache according to the block replacement policy.The proposed method can reduce the latency time of a hybrid hard disk and optimize the power consumption of an IPTV set-top box.Experimental results show that the proposed method provides better average response time compared to an existing adaptive multistream prefetching(AMP) method by 25.17%.It also reduces by 20.83% the average power consumption over that of the existing external caching in energy saving storage system(EXCES) method.

文摘The current cost-plus natural gas pricing mechanism makes the gas price too low,resulting in a lot of consumer-side subsidies and over-consumed natural gas.This paper applies the price-gap approach and input-output analysis technology to quantitatively analyze both the direct and indirect effects on urban residents under the condition that natural gas subsidies are cancelled in China in 2007.It is shown that the gas price will increase by 33.3%-41.6%,and the residential consumption expenditure by 0.26%-0.33%.The low-income groups are mostly affected,so different subsidies should be implemented to make subsidies more efficient.
文摘During the past 15 years, disputable experimental evidence has built up for LERN (low energy nuclear reaction) phenomena in specialized heavy hydrogen systems. Actually, it can not be said that a new branch of science is beginning. In spite of experimental contributions, the real problem is that the theoretical statements of LERN are unknown. In this work, the authors analyze the deuteron-deuteron reactions within palladium lattice by means of the coherence theory of nuclear and condensed matter and, using this general theoretical framework accepted from "cold fusion scientists", it will be shown the low occurrence probability of fusion phenomena. In fact, in the coherence approach, the D-D potential exhibits double barrier features and, in this way, the D-D fusion is hampered.

文摘This paper has developed a measurement approach that integrates price with the product technical content initiated by Lall et al.(2006),i.e.,dividing HS6-quantile products into high-end,middle-end and low-end levels through the quantile ranking of prices of the same product from different countries or regions in a target market.Our estimation has discovered that due to the lack of product price differentiation,traditional method for the measurement of product technical content overestimated technical content of the low-end segment in the same category of products while underestimated technical content of the high-end segment in the same category of products.Re-calculation based on Rodric's result indicates that specialness of Chinese exports is mainly reflected by high-end and middle-end products.In addition,the competition result of the sophistication of Chinese exports indicates that since the middle of the 1990 s,the sophistication of Chinese exports has remained relatively low compared with the average level of the world and developing countries;from an economic perspective,improvement in the sophistication of Chinese exports primarily derived from middle-end and low-end products;from a category-specific perspective,improvement in the sophistication of Chinese exports primarily derived from low-technology export products.
