This paper summarizes the selected results of an extensive investigation of application of two methods (hydrothermal and mechanochemical) assisted by calcination for synthesizing belite cement from reactive mixtures...This paper summarizes the selected results of an extensive investigation of application of two methods (hydrothermal and mechanochemical) assisted by calcination for synthesizing belite cement from reactive mixtures (CaO/SiO2 molar ratio of 2) consisting of various waste kinds from fluidized brown coal combustion in Slovakian power plant and CaO addition. Based on XRD diffraction patterns and infrared spectra ofpre-treatment products, the formation of the new profiles corresponding to CSH phases with low degree of ordering as belite precursors after hydrothermal treatment as well as metastables calcium silicates and aluminosilicates in mechanosynthesized products was confirmed. Calcination of hydrothermally treated products led to transformation of CSH phases to wollastonite (CS), belite and gehlenite phase, whereas creation oft^- and I^-C2S or wollastonite in milled reactive mixture took place. Differences in phase composition of products before and after calcination depend upon waste quality and precursor's synthesis conditions. Bottom ash isn't suitable as raw material for synthesizing belite phase because of high CaO content fixed in anhydrite form (44.1%). Coal fly ash with low CaO content in anhydrite form (4.2%) and its mechanochemical or hydrothermal treatment in combination with subsequent heating offer opportunities for the utilization of coal fly ash as raw material for belite production.展开更多

These mechanisms could be better reve...Kinetic mechanisms describing how THIs (thermodynamic hydrate inhibitors) and KHIs (kinetic hydrate inhibitors) work on gas hydrate formation have drawn interests for decades. These mechanisms could be better revealed with more fundamental experimental studies. With experiments performed in an isochoric cell with continuous cooling and stirring, this paper presents observed effects of methanol, PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone, Mw= 15,000) and PVCap (polyvinylcaprolactam, Mw = 6,000) on both nucleation and growth of structure-I methane hydrate at concentrations 100 to 3,000 ppm (i.e., 0.01 to 0.3 wt%). The results suggest that methanol had no significant effect on nucleation, while it weakly promoted, spontaneous hydrate growth at an early stage. PVP and PVCap gave reduced average nucleation rate at and prior to hydrate onset, while increased the induction time and the degree of sub-cooling. PVP gave no observable effect on total gas intake and average hydrate growth rate. A decreased total gas intake was observed for all concentrations of PVCap.展开更多

In addition, a reasonable and flexible method is applied to test the thermodynamic consistency of pressure-temperature-concentration(P-T-x) data of these binary mixtures.Modeling is found acceptable in all cases, meaning that deviations in correlating the pressure and the gas phase concentration are low. Two samples with the same COD (chemical oxygen demand) values were chosen for this study. The results have shown that both samples consist of the same compounds with low molecular weights and high polarities in high concentrations. The hospital wastewater consisted of more compounds arithmetically. Differences were found in the organic compound with low molecular weight and low polarities. Pharmaceutical compounds such as caffeine, acetanilide and phenacetin were detected only in the hospital wastewater.展开更多
Sialic acids are common terminal carbohydrates on cell surface.Together with internal carbohydrate structures,they play important roles in many physiological and pathological processes.In order to obtain α2–3-sialyl...Sialic acids are common terminal carbohydrates on cell surface.Together with internal carbohydrate structures,they play important roles in many physiological and pathological processes.In order to obtain α2–3-sialylated oligosaccharides,a highly efficient one-pot three-enzyme synthetic approach was applied.The P.multocida α2–3-sialyltransferase (PmST1) involved in the synthesis was a multifunctional enzyme with extremely flexible donor and acceptor substrate specificities.Sialyltransferase acceptors,including type 1 structure (Galβ1–3GlcNAcβProN3),type 2 structures (Galβ1–4GlcNAcβProN3 and 6-sulfo-Galβ1– 4GlcNAcβProN3),type 4 structure (Galβ1–3GalNAcβProN3),type 3 or core 1 structure (Galβ1–3GalNAcβProN3) and human milk oligoscaccharide or lipooligosaccharide lacto-N-tetraose (LNT) (Galβ1–3GlcNAcβ1–3Galβ1–4GlcβProN3),were chemically synthesized.They were then used in one-pot three-enzyme reactions with sialic acid precursor ManNAc or ManNGc,to synthesize a library of naturally occurring β2–3-linked sialosides with different internal sugar structures.The sialylated oligosaccharides obtained are valuable probes for their biological studies.展开更多
