There has been an increasing prevalence of lymphogranuloma venereum(LGV) or Chlamydia trachomatis(C.trachomatis) cases among the men who have sex with men(MSM) population,particularly in Europe and North America.These...There has been an increasing prevalence of lymphogranuloma venereum(LGV) or Chlamydia trachomatis(C.trachomatis) cases among the men who have sex with men(MSM) population,particularly in Europe and North America.These cases may present with an incomplete or undisclosed history and proctosigmoiditis without characteristic adenopathy syndrome.During the initial evaluation and colonoscopy,there is a strong clinical and endoscopic suspicion of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) by virtue of presentation and endoscopic and histological findings.The diagnosis of IBD is subsequently modified to LGV proctosigmoiditis when one or more of the following transpire:(1) there is failure of response to IBD therapy;(2) additional components of history(MSM/travel) may be identified;(3) return of initially performed Chlamydia antibody test is positive;and(4) response to antibiotics effective against Chlamydia.We describe three such cases initially suspectedto be an inflammatory bowel disease and subsequently identified as C.trachomatis proctosigmoiditis.展开更多

[Method] Antibodies against infectious bursal d...[Objective] This study aimed to compare the detection results of antibodies against infectious bursal disease virus with test strips and agar gel immunodiffusion method. [Method] Antibodies against infectious bursal disease virus in chicken serum were detected using test strips developed in our laboratory, and the results were comparad^with that using traditional agar diffusion method. [Result] The comparative study of the two methods showed that the sensitivity of test strips was eight times over agar gel immunodiffusion; test strips showed higher detection rate in the deter- mination test of 216 clinical samples, with high specificity, easy preservation, and simple and rapid operation, thereby being more suitable for the monitoring of clinical antibodies. [Conclusion] Test strips could replace the existing serological methods, having great promotion and application value in antibody monitoring.展开更多

Most of the Pe...The solubilization of hardly soluble aluminum phosphate (AlPO4) by specific Penicillium spp. isolated from wheat rhizospheric soils was investigated in Pikovskaya agar and liquid medium, respectively. Most of the Penicillium isolates except P. sirnplicissimum AP 11 and P. variabile AP 15 developed clear transparent zone around the colony margin in plate assays. Results of broth assays show that the Penicillium isolates can efficiently solubilize aluminum phosphate in Pikovskaya liquid medium, and vary in their capabilities to release soluble phosphate from aluminum phosphate. All the isolates exhibit different abilities to lower the pH and increase the titratable acidity in the broth compared to the control. HPLC analysis shows that most of the isolates except the species of P. aurantiogriseum can excrete different concentrations of organic acids, including gluconic acid, citric acid, oxalic acid, malic acid and tartaric acids, in the broth. The release of soluble phosphate by the isolate P. oxalicum AP2, which is the best solubilizer of aluminum phosphate among the isolates, is accompanied by a significant drop of pH and an obvious rise of titratable acidity during 7 d of aluminum phosphate-solubilizing experiments. The effects of temperature, initial pH, concentration of aluminum phosphate and shaking speed on aluminum phosphate solubilization by P. oxalicum AP2 were also investigated, and the maximum contents of soluble phosphate released are recorded at temperature 30 ℃, initial pH 6, aluminum phosphate concentration 20 g/L, and shaking speed 160 r/min.展开更多
It is well known that angiogenesis is critical in the transition from premalignant to malignant lesions.Consequently,early detection and diagnosis based on morphological changes to the microvessels are crucial.In the ...It is well known that angiogenesis is critical in the transition from premalignant to malignant lesions.Consequently,early detection and diagnosis based on morphological changes to the microvessels are crucial.In the last few years,new imaging techniques which utilize the properties of light-tissue interaction have been developed to increase early diagnosis of gastrointestinal(GI) tract neoplasia.We analyzed several "red-flag" endoscopic techniques used to enhance visualization of the vascular pattern of preneoplastic and neoplastic lesions(e.g.trimodal imaging including autofluorescence imaging,magnifying endoscopy and narrow band imaging).These new endoscopic techniques provide better visualization of mucosal microsurface structure and microvascular architecture and may enhance the diagnosis and characterization of mucosal lesions in the GI tract.In the near future,it is expected that trimodal imaging endoscopy will be practiced as a standard endoscopy technique as it is quick,safe and accurate for making a precise diagnosis of gastrointestinal pathology,with an emphasis on the diagnosis of early GI tract cancers.Further large-scale randomized controlled trials comparing these modalities in different patient subpopulations are warranted before their endorsement in the routine practice of GI endoscopy.展开更多

The capsid protein (Cap protein) is a major structural protein that has...Postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) is an important swine disease that is closely associated with porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2). The capsid protein (Cap protein) is a major structural protein that has at least three immunoreactive regions, and it can be a suitable candidate antigen for detecting the specific antibodies of a PCV2 infection. In the present study, an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (TcELISA) based on a truncated soluble Cap protein produced in Escherichia coli (E.coli) was established and validated for the diagnostic PCV2 antibodies in swine. The TcELISA was validated by comparison with an indirect immunofluorescence assay (IIFA). The diagnostic sensitivity (DSN), specificity (DSP), and accuracy of the TcELISA were 88.6%, 90.7% and 89.4%, respectively. The agreement rate was 89.38% between results obtained with TcELISA and IIFA on 113 field sera. A cross-reactivity assay showed that the method was PCV2-specific by comparison with other sera of viral disease. Therefore ,the TcELISA will be helpful for the development of a reliable serology diagnostic test for large scale detection of PCV2 antibodies and for the evaluation of vaccine against PCV2 in swine.展开更多
Oncological treatment is currently directed toward a tailored therapy concept.Squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal could be considered a suitable platform to test new therapeutic strategies to minimize treatment ...Oncological treatment is currently directed toward a tailored therapy concept.Squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal could be considered a suitable platform to test new therapeutic strategies to minimize treatment morbidity.Standard of care for patients with anal canal cancer consists of a combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.This treatment has led to a high rate of local control and a 60% cure rate with preservation of the anal sphincter,thus replacing surgical abdominoperineal resection.Lymph node metastases represent a critical independent prognostic factor for local recurrence and survival.Mesorectal and iliac lymph nodes are usually included in the radiation field,whereas the inclusion of inguinal regions still remains controversial because of the subsequent adverse side effects.Sentinel lymph node biopsies could clearly identify inguinal node-positive patients eligible for therapeutic groin irradiation.A sentinel lymph node navigation procedure is reported here to be a feasible and effective method for establishing the true inguinal node status in patients suffering from anal canal cancer.Based on the results of sentinel node biopsies,a selective approach could be proposed where node-positive patients could be selected for inguinal node irradiation while node-negative patients could take advantage of inguinal sparing irradiation,thus avoiding toxic side effects.展开更多

In the scheme, the checkpoint executed by each peer(i.e., a resource) is used as an intermediate result and executed in other peers via its duplication and transmission. As the checkpoint is close to a final result, the reduction of execution time for each task becomes higher, leading to reducing turnaround time. To evaluate the performance of our scheduling scheme in terms of transmission cost and execution time, an analytical model with an embedded Markov chain is presented. We also conduct simulations with a failure rate of tasks and compare the performance of our scheduling scheme with that of the existing scheme based on client-server architecture. Performance results show that our scheduling scheme is superior to the existing scheme with respect to the reduction of execution time and turnaround time.展开更多

I...A novel Opto-Chemical Ring Resonator (OCRR) has been presented for detecting gas odorant. The sensor is designed based on Morphology Dependent Resonances (MDR) which follows Maxwell's electromagnetic equations. In this paper, we have presented a novel technique to integrate chemical science and optical technology by using OCRR. Optical resonances of electromagnetic wave propagations in dielectric micro-ring resonator have been developed based on asymptotic approach. Parametric studies based on developed asymptotic expression have been presented to determine the resonance frequency at particular chemical composition. Finite element simulation is used to predict the performance of the sensor and found encouraging results for odorant sensing. Parametric studies show that present study will help to develop novel OCRR sensors tbr micro/nano technology and biomedical applications.展开更多
OBJECTIVES: To study the usefulness of CT virtual colonoscopy (CTVC) in patients with incomplete conventional colonoscopy (CC) and assess the statistical differences between two methods of colorectal segment examinati...OBJECTIVES: To study the usefulness of CT virtual colonoscopy (CTVC) in patients with incomplete conventional colonoscopy (CC) and assess the statistical differences between two methods of colorectal segment examination. METHODS: Sixty patients with incomplete CC underwent volume scanning using spiral CT. CT VC images were obtained using a navigator software in workstation. All patients were confirmed by surgical or CC biopsy histology. Statistical analysis was done using t test comparing two sample percentages. RESULTS: CTVC succeeded in 55/60 patients (91.7%) who had incomplete CC. Additional lesions were identified in the proximal colon in 15/55 patients (27.3%), including 1 primary carcinoma, 16 polyps in 13 patients and 1 ulcerative colonitis. The main cause of incomplete CC was occlusive mass; others were redundant, tortuous colon loops, and excessive colonic spasm. There was a statistically significant difference between the two methods in colorectal segment examination. CONCLUSION: CTVC is a feasible and effective adjunctive method for evaluating the entire colorectal segment following an incomplete CC procedure. It offers a new approach for colorectal examination.展开更多

X-ray diffrac- tion analys...Here we report the discovery of the first ternary molybdenum pnictide based superconductor K2Mo3As3. Polycrystalline samples were synthesized by the conventional solid state reaction method. X-ray diffrac- tion analysis reveals a quasi-one-dimensional hexagonal crystal structure with (Mo3As3)2 linear chains separated by K^+ ions, similar as previously reported K2Cr3As3, with the space group of P-6m2 (No. 187) and the refined lattice parameters a = 10.145(5) A and c = 4.453(8) A. Electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measurements exhibit bulk superconductivity with the onset Tc at 10.4 K in K2Mo3As3 which is higher than the isostructural Cr-based superconductors. Being the same group VIB transition elements and with similar structural motifs, these Cr and Mo based superconductors may share some common underlying origins for the occurrence of superconductivity and need more investigations to uncover the electron pairing within a quasi-one-dimensional chain structure.展开更多

Performance results show that our scheduling scheme is superior to the existing scheme with respect to the reduction of execution time and turnaround time.
文摘A novel Opto-Chemical Ring Resonator (OCRR) has been presented for detecting gas odorant. The sensor is designed based on Morphology Dependent Resonances (MDR) which follows Maxwell's electromagnetic equations. In this paper, we have presented a novel technique to integrate chemical science and optical technology by using OCRR. Optical resonances of electromagnetic wave propagations in dielectric micro-ring resonator have been developed based on asymptotic approach. Parametric studies based on developed asymptotic expression have been presented to determine the resonance frequency at particular chemical composition. Finite element simulation is used to predict the performance of the sensor and found encouraging results for odorant sensing. Parametric studies show that present study will help to develop novel OCRR sensors tbr micro/nano technology and biomedical applications.
文摘OBJECTIVES: To study the usefulness of CT virtual colonoscopy (CTVC) in patients with incomplete conventional colonoscopy (CC) and assess the statistical differences between two methods of colorectal segment examination. METHODS: Sixty patients with incomplete CC underwent volume scanning using spiral CT. CT VC images were obtained using a navigator software in workstation. All patients were confirmed by surgical or CC biopsy histology. Statistical analysis was done using t test comparing two sample percentages. RESULTS: CTVC succeeded in 55/60 patients (91.7%) who had incomplete CC. Additional lesions were identified in the proximal colon in 15/55 patients (27.3%), including 1 primary carcinoma, 16 polyps in 13 patients and 1 ulcerative colonitis. The main cause of incomplete CC was occlusive mass; others were redundant, tortuous colon loops, and excessive colonic spasm. There was a statistically significant difference between the two methods in colorectal segment examination. CONCLUSION: CTVC is a feasible and effective adjunctive method for evaluating the entire colorectal segment following an incomplete CC procedure. It offers a new approach for colorectal examination.

文摘Here we report the discovery of the first ternary molybdenum pnictide based superconductor K2Mo3As3. Polycrystalline samples were synthesized by the conventional solid state reaction method. X-ray diffrac- tion analysis reveals a quasi-one-dimensional hexagonal crystal structure with (Mo3As3)2 linear chains separated by K^+ ions, similar as previously reported K2Cr3As3, with the space group of P-6m2 (No. 187) and the refined lattice parameters a = 10.145(5) A and c = 4.453(8) A. Electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measurements exhibit bulk superconductivity with the onset Tc at 10.4 K in K2Mo3As3 which is higher than the isostructural Cr-based superconductors. Being the same group VIB transition elements and with similar structural motifs, these Cr and Mo based superconductors may share some common underlying origins for the occurrence of superconductivity and need more investigations to uncover the electron pairing within a quasi-one-dimensional chain structure.

文摘Hydrophobic fluorescence:Tan and his colleagues recently introduced a brand new chemotype of environment-sensitive fluorescent turn-on probes to detect the hydrophobic ligand-binding domain by using SBD fluorophore.The design strategy described in this report generalized the environment sensitivity turn-on mechanism to recognize a specific protein,which provides a robust breakthrough for interchanging fluorescence in conventional small-molecule fluorescent imaging.
