A tracking interferometer is a laser interferometer with the mechanism to steer the laser direction to follow a target retroreflector. Based on the triangulation principle, the three-dimensional position of the target can be estimated from measured laser displacements. Its capability to measure three-dimensional positioning errors for arbitrary trajectories is important for the indirect measurement of the machine's kinematic model. This paper presents experimental investigation of the estimation accuracy of the multilateration-based measurement by a tracking interferometer. A tracking interferometer developed by a part of the authors is used in experiments. In the present experiment, the measured volume of target positions was 100 mm × 100 mm × 100 mm. The estimation accuracy of targets within this volume was not sufficiently high compared to the positioning error of the measured machine tool. The results of the experiment and simulation show that the estimation uncertainty is dependent on tracking interferometer locations relative to target locations. Error sensitivity analysis shows that wider distribution of tracker positions in XY improves the estimation accuracy.展开更多

The calculated formation heats indicate a strong chemical interaction between A1 and Li for all the A1-Li intermetallics. In partic- ular, in the Li-rich A1-Li compounds, the thermodynamic stability of intermetallics linearly decreases with increasing concentration of.Li. According to the computational single crystal elastic constants, all the four A1-Li intermetallic compounds considered here are mechani- cally stable. The polycrystalline elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio have been deduced by using Voigt, Reuss, and Hill approximations, and the calculated ratios of bulk modulus to shear modulus indicate that the four compositions of binary A1-Li intermetallics are brittle materials. With the increase of Li concentration, the bulk modulus of A1-Li intermetallics decreases in a linear manner.展开更多

An underground limestone mine in Ohio is used as a test case for monitoring of structurally unstable pillars. Seven pillars were pho- tographed over in a 63 day period, punctuated by four visits. Using photogrammetry, point clouds of the mine geometry were obtained and triangulation surfaces were generated to determine volumes of change over time. Pillar spaUing in the range of 0.29-4.03 m3 of rock on individual rib faces was detected. Isolated incidents of rock expansion prior to failure, and the isolated failure of a weak shale band were also observed. Much of the pillars remained unchanged during the monitoring period, which is indicative of proper alignment in the triangulated surfaces. The photographs of some ribs were of either too poor quality or had insufficient overlap, and were not included. However, photogrammetry was successfully aonlied to multiole ribs in auantifving the oillar geometrv change over time.展开更多
