First, assuming that the distribution of nodes in the random network follows the Poisson point process (PPP), a closed-form expression of the outage probability is derived for the best relay selection (BRS) scheme. Secondly, the capacity of the network is presented for this scheme. Finally, a performance factor is defined to evaluate the performance gain obtained from the BRS. By using this factor, a relay selection region is found to guarantee the performance gain from the BRS. The analysis and simulation results show that the performance of the BRS not only depends on the densities of source nodes and relay nodes but also on the factors of networks such as the path loss factor and the decoding threshold. And the BRS has a greater advantage than direct transmission (DT) in hush environments such as the long transmission distances, much interference and the high decoding thresholds.展开更多

Surface tension of soil water yields capillary forces that bind the water in the soil pores. Changes in soil water surface tension by contaminants may affect flow of soil water due to decreased capillary forces, caused by lowered soil water surface tension. This study aimed at assessing solute transport in sand columns as affected by effluent surface tension. Miscible displacement (MD) tests were conducted on sand columns repacked with sands sieved from 2.0, 1.0, 0.5 and 0.25 mm screens. The MD tests were conducted with 0.05 M bromide solutions prepared using water with surface tension adjusted to 72.8, 64, 53.5 and 42 dyne/cm2. Obtained breakthrough curves were modeled with the convection-dispersion equation (CDE) model. Coefficient of hydrodynamic dispersion and pore-water velocity responded inconsistently across decreased particle-sizes and water surface tensions and this was attributed to non-uniform effect of lowered effluent surface tension on solute transport in different pore-size distribution.展开更多

Using the spatial and temporal correlation of a geometrical one-ring model, a close-formed expression of intercarrier interference due to the Doppler effect caused by the movement of receiver is derived under the isotropic scattering conditions and non-isotropic scattering conditions. The analytical results are verified by Monte Carlo simulations. We use the generated channels to investigate MIMO-OFDM intercarrier interference under various channel parameters. It can be shown that more than 95% oflCI power comes from five neighboring subcarriers.展开更多

For movement-based signals where movement is restricted to a single plane, measure- ments from a single viewpoint can be used to consider a range of viewing positions based on simple geometric calculations. However, considerations of signal properties from a range of viewing positions for movements extending into three-dimensions (3D) are more problematic. We present here a new framework that overcomes this limitation, and enables us to quantify the extent to which movement-based signals are view-specific. To illustrate its application, a Jacky lizard tail flick signal was filmed with synchronized cameras and the position of the tail tip digitized for both recordings. Camera aligmnent enabled tl^e construction of a 3D display action pattern profile. We analyzed the profile directly and used it to create a detailed 3D animation. In the virtual environment, we were able to film the same signal from multiple viewing positions and using a computational motion analysis algorithm (gradient detector model) to measure local image velocity in order to predict view dependent differences in signal properties. This approach will enable consideration of a range of questions concerning movement-based signal design and evolu- tion that were previously out of reach [Current Zoology 56 (3): 327-336, 2010].展开更多

It can obtain the geometrical depolarization effect of each path if known the antenna configuration, the polarization field radiation pattern and the spatial distribution of scatters. With the development of communication technology, information transmission spectrum is more and more scarce. The original model provides only a single channel polarization state, so the information will be limited that the polarization state carries in the polarization modulation. The research is so significance that how to carries polarization modulation information by using multi-antenna polarization state. However, the present study shows that have no depolarization effect model for multi-antenna systems. In this paper, we propose a multi-antenna geometrical depolarization model. On the basis of a single antenna to calculate the depolarization effect of the model, and through simulation to analysis the main factors that influence the depolarization effect. This article provides a multi-antenna geometrical depolarization channel modeling that can applied to large-scale array antenna, and to some extent increase the speed of information transmission.展开更多

The method is devised under the following geometrical assumptions:(1) on its cross section, the structure is left-right symmetric;(2) the projected structure velocity is vertical to the line of symmetry. The two conditions can be naturally satisfied for cylindrical MFRs and are expected to be satisfied for MFRs that are flattened within current sheets. The model test demonstrates that, for determining the axial orientation of such structures, the new method is more efficient and reliable than traditional techniques such as minimum-variance analysis of the magnetic field,Grad-Shafranov(GS) reconstruction, and the more recent method based on the cylindrically symmetric assumption. A total of five flux transfer events observed by Cluster are studied using the proposed approach, and the application results indicate that the observed structures, regardless of their actual physical properties, fit the assumed geometrical model well. For these events, the inferred axial orientations are all in excellent agreement with those obtained using the multi-GS reconstruction technique.展开更多

Herein, density functional theory has been used to explore a new transparent conducting material via adsorption of H on a 2D β-GaS sheet. This adsorption results in geometrical changes to the local structures around the H. The calculated electronic structures reveal metallic characteristics of the 2D α-GaS material upon H adsorption and a large optical band gap of 2.72 eV with a significant Burstein-Moss shift of 0.67 eVo The simulated electrical resistivity is as low as 10^-4 Ω.cm, comparable to the benchmark for ITO thin films.展开更多
