The design of double line five step ship lock of Three Gorges Project

The general design and layout of the double-line five-step ship-lock,the water delivery technique for high head ship-lock,the key technical problems of fully lined ship-lock and the monitoring techniques for large-scale miter gates and hoisting equipment under complicated operation conditions of Three Gorges Project (TGP) are introduced.Since the operation of ship-lock in 2003,the operation practice has proved that the design techniques are advanced,rational and reliable.The design and construction of the fully lined ship-lock promotes the development of design theory and practice of ship-lock projects,which makes the construction technology of ship-lock in the world reach a new level.

Psychological capital mediates the association between nurses'practice environment and work engagement among Chinese male nurses

Objectives:This study aims to investigate the environmental and individual factors contributing to male nurses'psychological well-being and to explore the psychological mechanisms that may explain the links between nurses'practice environment and work engagement,thereby presenting the implications for nurse managers.Methods:A total of 161 male nurses from three tertiary first-class hospitals in Changsha City in China participated in the study.We collected the data using the Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index,the Psychological Capital Questionnaire,and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale.Results:Scores of male nurses'practice environment(2.88±0.31),psychological capital(4.42±0.62),and work engagement(3.17±1.39)were all above the midpoint;however,the subscales"the nursing staffing and resources adequacy"(2.72±0.48),"hope"(4.33±0.72),and"dedication"(2.96±1.61)scored lowest.Nurses'practice environment and psychological capital positively predicted nurses'work engagement;psychological capital fully mediated the influence of nurses'practice environment on work engagement.Conclusions:Creating a supportive nursing practice environment can increase male nurses'work engagement by developing their psychological capital.Nurse managers can then provide reasonable workload and pathways for male nurses to achieve goals,thereby fostering their hope.

In the digital convergence culture （Jenkins, 2006） and in the network society （Castells, 1996）, the theories of personal branding, social identity, and the two-step flow of communication have become intertwined to create a model through which individuals and musicians share and embrace music. This paper examines the rise of social network for music involving both the practices of use and consumption and those of creation, sharing and distribution of innovative and independents musical reality. Social media have introduced radical changes in social and musical practices increasing the ability of creation from the bottom in contrast to mainstream. Moreover, thanks to performativity, collaboration and participation offering by Web 2.0, fit fully in culture ＂DIY 2.0＂ offering an interesting chance for the emerging underground music.

ZENG Xu-bai and the Journal Truth, Beauty, and Goodness

The journal Truth, Beauty, and Goodness was the main field where ZENG Xu-bai published his literature works; in response to the miscellaneous ＂revolutionary literature＂ at that time, he put forward the idea that literature should be a combination of unity and artistry, and emphasized self-expression of literature on the basis of popularization of literature. With these literature views, his works also had shown his pursuit for the specialty and artistry of literature, as well as a transition from technique-oriented writing to a balance of emotion expression and technique usage. Anyway, during his translation of French literature and creative practice, the rich literature nutrition he received led to his unclear and complex thoughts which he neutralized with carefulness, and hence his unique literature views.

The Stabilizing Role of Material Structure in Scientific Practice

Knowledge of the environment is essential for the survival of organisms; but those organisms have to have the capacity to stabilize such knowledge. The aim of this article is to analyze the various strategies for stabilizing human knowledge, with a special focus on its material anchors and their interactions with other stabilization means. In particular, I consider how such stabilization is reflected in scientific activity and practice, and what its repercussions are for the models of science that have dominated the philosophical landscape of the 20th century. My starting hypothesis will be that the role of material anchors in stabilizing conceptual blends is analogous to that of technology in grounding scientific knowledge. The framework I adopt with regard to conceptualization is that of Fauconnier and Turner （2002） on conceptual blends. Just as technology intervenes in scientific practice in conjunction with conceptual elements, so do material anchors, which conjoin other non-material strategies of knowledge stabilization. Endowing knowledge with a material basis may be understood firstly as an element （sometimes a key element） for representing knowledge and offering an explanation, and secondly as a way of providing a scientific hypothesis with empirical grounding. It is this second sense that connects with scientific experimentation and the use of instruments and technology.

Individually administered or co-prescribed thiopurines and mesalamines for inflammatory bowel disease

Data from both basic research and clinical experience continue to suggest that mesalamines and thioputines are effective and efficient for the maintenance of remission of inflammatory bowel diseases. Several decades following the formalization of their indications, attention on these two drugs has been fostered by recent achievements. Demonstration of the ability of mesalamine to activate a colonocyte differentiation factor has shed light on its chemopreventive effects on colorectal cancer; in addition to their anti-proliferative efficacy, thiopurines have been shown to be specific regulators of apoptosis. The two drugs are often coadministered in clinical practice. Recent advancements have shown that mesalamines exert a positive synergism in this context, insofar as they can inhibit sidemethylation of thiopurines and hasten the function of the main immunosuppressive pathways. Considering that up to 40% of patients cannot tolerate thiopurines, such renovated targets have stimulated efforts to improve compliance by research on the toxicity mechanisms. The definition of genetic polymorphisms in the enzymes of thiopurine metabolism, and the uncovering of synergistic drug interactions, such as that with allopurinol, are just two of the results of such efforts. Interaction between basic research and clinical practice has continued to inform indications and refine the prescriptions of mesalamines and thiopurines; these have not been restrained （they have been implemented in some cases） by the advent of the novel biological molecules with anti-cytokine activity.

Research to Improve the Effectiveness of the Government＇s Economic Management of Performance Management

The practice of ventilation is continually evolving with new technological advances developed in the mining industry.In recent years the advances in diesel engine technologies,ventilation modeling software,and ventilation management capacities have redefined the historical methods used to evaluate systems.The advances re-evaluate previous methods used to calculate the airflow requirements for the dilution of diesel exhaust fumes.Modeling software has become an integral part of planning and developing ventilation systems in partnership with graphical mine design software packages to generate realistic representations of the mine.Significant advances in ventilation control strategies through remote sensors and monitoring capabilities have been developed to results in cost savings.Though there has been much advancement in mine ventilation technology,the practices and basic ventilation principals enacted through the ventilation engineer cannot be placated with technological advances only.

The Everyday （in） Urbanism： What＇s New on the Spot

The paper aims at measuring the influence that the everyday theme has exercised in the formation of the idea of space that is permeating the thought of many contemporary urban planners. Through the investigation of two recent approaches, the Italian and the American ones, the complex relationships between daily practices and urban spaces, in the continuous redefinition of the concepts of public and private sphere, are described. In this context, the Everyday Urbanists＇ work had the merit to reveal and investigate the social possibilities offered by the patterns of everyday life. They were among the first to speak about a citizenship redefinition, process which has been increasingly debated by many scholars. Citizenship is thus turning to be less formal, while becoming more substantive and insurgent. The paper demonstrates that, according to this crucial change, new and meaningful relations between citizenship and planning can be established and that these are able to open planning practice up to the present ethnographical possibilities of the urban space, and to its tactical and polysemic dimensions.

An Ecological Exploration of the Culture of English as an International Language Among Iranian English Language Teachers in Light of Vygotsky＇s Genotypic Approach

Language ecology is defined as the study of the interactions between any given language and its environment. It is primarily determined by the people who learn it, who use it, and more important than the previous ones by the people who transmit it to the others; that is, language teachers. English language is used as an additional language almost all over the world and an indispensable part of the ecology of this international language is culture. Thus, an ecological perspective demands a particular view of the practice of the culture of English language as situated and localized. Exploring such practice within the diverse contexts of the use of English language should be based on the genesis underpinning English language teachers＇ thoughts and practice. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to explore Iranian English language teachers＇ attitudes, knowledge, and skills of teaching culture in light of Vygotsky＇s genotypic approach. To do so, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 35 English language teachers in Iran. Their records were analyzed and discussed in terms of four different and interrelated spans, namely phylogenetic, cultural-historic, ontogenetic, and microgenetic. Phylogenetic span focuses on the development of language teachers as natural species and their physical evolution. The cultural historic span concerns the development of language teachers based on social, cultural, and historic bases. Ontogenetic domain investigates the role of language teachers across their human life span. Microgenetic span is related to a set of roles, activities, and interpersonal relations experienced by the developing person in a given setting. The findings of the study have indicated that there is a sharp contrast between Iranian English language teachers＇ attitudes towards teaching culture and their practice in the classroom which is due to the divergence between the their ontogenetic development of culture teaching on one hand and the policies of the English language institutes develop within the cultural historic span on the other hand.
