We assessed the land mosaic shift of a protected area located in the western Italian Alps. In particular, the dynamics of pasture patches were studied at both landscape and stand level. Land-cover mapping through object-oriented analysis of historical aerial photographs was used to assess land-cover changes between 1954 and 2000. Spatial statistics were used to quantify landscape patterns, and field samplings within pasture patches were used to explore tree regeneration structure and composition. Our results showed a significant increase in the number of pasture patches caused by their fragmentation following forest expansion. The total surface area of pasture patches decreased by 43% and their core area decreased by 94%. The encroachment of trees on less accessible areas of the pasture patches caused a reduction of patch shape at landscape scale. The gap filling process started 40-50 years ago and began with an early invasion of light demanding species like sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) and common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.), followed by European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and secondarily silver fir (Abies alba Mill.). Traditional land-use and population decline in the Pesio Valley led to a reduction in ecotone areas. A transition to a more homogeneous landscape is expected in the next decades. Given the cultural and productive nature of these mountain meadow-pasture communities, extensive livestock grazing systems could be used to manage their future conservation.展开更多

The catalysts were characterized by means of XRD and FT-IR. The synthesis of n-butyl methacrylate catalyzed by H4SiW12O40/MCM-48 was studied with methacrylic acid and n-butyl alcohol as reactants. H4SiW12O40/MCM-48 was an excellent catalyst for the synthesis of n-butyl methacrylate and Keggin structure ofH4SiW12O40 kept unchanged after impregnated on surface of the molecular sieve support. Effects of n(methacrylic acid): n(n-butyl alcohol), catalyst dosage, cyclohexane (water-stripped reagent) and reaction time on the yields of the product were investigated. The optimum conditions have been found, that is, molar ratio of acid to alcohol is 1:1.5, mass ratio of catalyst used to the reactant is 1.5%, cyclohexane is 10 mL and reaction time is 1.5h. Under these conditions, the yield of n-butyl methacrylate can reach 73.2%.展开更多

Succinic acid has been previously reported to possess radical scavenger, iron chelating and anti-inflammatory properties in the mouse fibroblast. The purpose of this study was to investigate potential therapeutic effects of succinic acid and possible signal pathway involved in the mouse fibroblast. We demonstrated highly potent antioxidant-radical scavenging activities of succinic acid.展开更多

The greatest advantage of using silica over carbon black as reinforcing filler in a tyre tread compound is that a lower rolling resistance is achieved, while maintaining good wet traction. However, a previous study has shown that the wear resistance of a silica filled ENR (epoxidised natural rubber) compound was not as high as those of conventional OESBR (oil extended styrene butadiene rubber) and NR/BR compounds used in passenger car and truck tyre treads. In this work, with the aim of improving abrasion resistance, the effect of blending BR (butadiene rubber) into a silica filled ENR compound was studied. Blends with 0 to 30 phr BR were prepared in a Polylab Haake internal mixer. The rheological properties of the compounds were measured using a Mooney viscometer and oscillating-disc rheometer. The hardness, tensile strength and DIN abrasion resistance were also measured. The results showed that the ENR/silica compound properties such as tensile strength and hardness were as good as those of the conventional compounds. However, the most important finding was that abrasion resistance increased significantly with BR content, exceeding that of the conventional compound at BR: ENR ratios of greater than 20:80.展开更多

The sodium butyrate with three types of coated, common and granule was produced at three differ- ent feed mills and sampled and determined the content. The results showed that the retention rate of common sodium butyrate was 7.35% through carrier difference, mixing, granulating, stomach and digestive tract forepart. The retention rates of granule and coated sodium butyrate (the content of sodium butyrate is 30%) were 17.04% and 72.66% respectively. Therefore, the stability of coated sodium butyrate is obviously higher than common and granule sodium butyrate.展开更多
